Well, was able to get the Land Raider mostly finished, however still need to add some battle damage, and weathering to it and the tracks. I also need to put a name on the scroll work on the front chassis, and if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Ive been trying to think of something Germanic, but I can't think of anything good.

Also I tried to put some OSL on the front from the lights, but am thinking that perhaps its a little to soft?

Anyways, enjoy the pics. C&C most welcome.

One Land Raider down, with just one Land Raider, nine boarding marines, 4 terminators and Rogal Dorn to go....

Great to see the original Mk I Land Raider making an appearance in the army. Loving Sigismund though, very cool conversion and I really like the old school fists as the exhaust vents on the back pack, really nice touch that.

@Hellrender Cheers! Quite pleased with it as well. Been ahile since I've painted a Land Raider, even an olde, so I'm glad the yellow came off well on the large surface areas.

@Kierdale Cheers, was worried the OSL wasn't enough. Since all my Fists have the red gun casings it seemed natural that the Land Raider's sponson's be red as well. I think it fits rather well. I did think about drilling the barrels, and to be honest, wasn't too sure about it. Looking at the model, it looked like there might be two barrels per lascannon instead of one per lascannon. I might revisit it at some stage and drill them, as everything else I have has been drilled.

@Doghouse Thanks! Wanted to give this old kit some love, especially due to the theme of this army. Sigismund I'm very happy with, and now I finally have a ride for him :)

Got a large update here. So after the Land Raider, I wanted to tackle some boarding marines in MKIII plate. I've wanted to do this since I first saw the snipets from the Shadows of Treachery artwork, from the upcoming Horus Heresy compilation.

http://i1203.photobucket.com/albums/bb383/lachdan/BL_chistmas_calendar-9.png

Although in the image they look like they have the MKII crusade suits, I've wanted the MKIII stuff for so long, this was a perfect excuse to get it. That and close quarter fighting on ships and tunnels is what that armour is for anyway.

So, I have assembled three marines thus far. Ultimately they will be a unit of 10 led by my already painted boarding marine with thunder hammer. I plan on having five with chainswords and Boarding shields, and another four with an assortment of close combat weaponry. In game I'll either represent them as vanguard veterans or just veterans from the Tempus Fugitives rules.

Now I have unashamedly stolen the damned artificer's idea for the shoulder pads, and put a tiny fist symbol from the forgeworld sprue. Really liked the idea, and looks great.

First up is my marine with chainsword. I've got a bunch of old metal chainswords that came with the old Imperial Fists upgrade pack, so finally decided to put them to use for these guys. Was just a simple repositioning of the hand, and some cutting to make him hold a sword instead of a gun.

Next up is my marine with lightning claw. Love this claw, so have been saving it for awhile. I also wanted a more aggressive pose, and also decided to finally use my bionic leg which has been sitting ground for ages. I repositioned the leg to look like he is stalking forward through enemy fire, perhaps muttering 'Pray that you kill me before I get there...'.

Lastly, this is the marine I wanted to recreate from the artwork. Smashing some Iron Warrior, and not even breaking his stride. A lot of cutting and repositioning to get this to look right, so would be interested to hearing what you guys think.

Will be making another two marines I think with chainswords, then might get some paint on these guys. As always any comments most welcome.

I think they look fantastic!

And who couldn't be inspired by that artwork!

The poses look really good.

I wonder, could you do one shoving his chainsword through the gunhole in the shield? Might be difficult to do, repositioning the sword arm a lot...

The boarding marines look great mate  and the RT raider does as well!

I'm glad to see I've inspired you with the shoulder pad icons :P I always liked sculpted icons over transfers/ painted icons.

If you need diversity in the fw legs and arms it is actually possible to pose them with very hot water (boil some and pour it in a coffee mug) and re-position them, I have had great success with that :cuss

Looking forward to more ;)

@Kierdale: Cheers! I did want to do one with the chainsword poking through the gap in the shield, but that is proving troublesome. I will persevere however.

@the damned artificer: Thanks so much for the kind words! Love your marines and that idea for the shoulder pad was just too good. like you I prefer sculpted icons over transfers, and is actually one of the design philosophies behind my Fists to have only sculpted icons. Thanks for the info on the legs as well. Will definitely give that a try!

Awesome models need nice comments mate ;)

I actually share that design philosophy and have plans to ad sculpted icons to all my models, I have done the same for my iron hands and iron warriors as well

I have looked a bit on the minotours shoulderpads from fw, and there's some good basis for converted shoulder pads there, I might need to get them :)

@the damned artificer: Thanks! Love to see what you come up with for those shoulder pads.

@Hellrender: Cheers! I've got four assembled now, just adding the first paint to two of them. Hopefully can get some pics up tonight.

I'm not too keen on the Land Raider, mostly because the yellow is very flat and the tracks look a bit weird plastered in Dheneb Stone (but that's just me B)). However, I love the poses you have for your Boarding Squad, so I can't wait to see those painted!

Good luck!

Ludovic

The RT LR is a classic look like I personally dislike, BUT painting yellow on such a flat surface is mega hard and frustrating so kudas for doing it and doing well. The boarding marines look great and looking forward to seeing them become lemon men.

Keep going brother syth, doing a very very good job.

Rob

@Battle-Brother Ludovic: Thanks! I think the poses turned out well. Just applying the first lot of paint to them, then realized i'm out of golden yellow... As for the LR, the tracks are weathered with the forge world weathering powder dark sand, and to me it made sense to have it a little caked on, since a LR is meant to be a heavy beast.

@Dorns_fist: Thanks for the kind words! Getting that yellow solid took awhile and I guess I'm just a little old school with my models B) Next will be boarding marines when I get more yellow...

@Skabfang: Cheers! Appreciate the kind words!

Well I've put some paint to boarding marine and here is a shot of where they are now.

Still going with the white helmet for veterans.

There is a fair amount of space free on the shields to do something, though I'm certainly not good enough to pull off some of the cool images off from the artwork. Might try my hand at some simple stuff.

Any comments welcome.

Okay first you have to tell me how you painted that yellow. It's beautiful.

Now I'm going to feel like a dick for this but.. I'm confused about Sigismud :D. Namely the golden armour and the Black Sword. It's my understanding that Sigismund wasn't given the Black Sword until the Siege of Terra when he was made the Emperor's Champion. In which case he should have black armour. But if this is pre-Siege Sigismund I don't think he should be lugging that sword around with him.

@Battle-Brother Ludovic: Thanks!

@Servus Christi: Thanks for the comments! Originally I had another sword for him, but this one looked more chunkier and intimidating, so I went with that. More of a modelling decision rather than a fluff one. Though I do feel a little foolish now as I spent so long researching his armour, and now have given him the 'wrong' sword. Ah well, this is a pre black sword that Dorn gifted to him, to make him ready for the real one. That's my story and I'm sticking to it :)

@WingsOfTheFalcon: Thanks! At first they weren't looking too good, but with more paint on them, they are looking better. I forgot to mention that I added a few bits and bobs to them as well, like pistol holster, grenades and pouches. The usual tack.

@Gearhart: Cheers! Certainly will try, got a lot to go through before my vow is compete.

@NightHunters: Cheers! Wanted to so this for so long, so am happy to finally make some progress.
