Great to see a fellow West Aussie on the forums! Loving that power fist marine, I think you captured the feel of that picture to perfection. Can't wait to see the rest of the squad get produced, the battle damage is really nice

@Battle-Brother Ludovic: Thanks Ludovic! Got a bit more done than I thought I would.

@Doghouse: Thanks! I'm quite happy with them, and the small collection of painted ones look great together!

@ThisisJimmy: Thanks for the kind words! Whereabouts are you? North or South of the river?

Well, I tried to get at least one done and uploaded, and came away with three. Hope you like.

This would have to be my favourite out of this batch (if I can pick favourites). Love the momentum, and the fact he is going to cause some serious damage to something.

This one again, just looks like he is stalking forward, waiting for his opportunity to charge.

This one, I wanted him sprinting forward, taking fire on his shield, more focused at closing the ground hence the lowered chainsword.

After this lot, I have two more to assemble. At the moment I'm out of ideas really, so any comments would be appreciated. There is going to be one more chainsword marine and one with a power sword (the one from the Crimson/Imperial Fist command upgrade bitz pact).

And and all c@c welcome.

Usually I don't like Imperial Fists, but yours are great, and being I a pre Heresy Era fanboy, I have to say that I like it a lot. Dunno about ideas sorry, maybe a chainaxe without chaos taint would be a nice variation. Also I would remove the imperial eagles because in pre Heresy/Heresy era the imperial eagle had not two heads, this is more a post Heresy bit as far as I know.

Anyways, great log :P

Cheers!

I guess technically I am south of the river, but really I'm more east of the river. I'm out Midland way.

The charging chainsword marine looks incredibly dynamic. As for ideas, maybe having a marine leaning back slightly, as though he is bracing for an imminent blow?

Very, very good work!

I particularly like the positioning of the third's shield so he can just see over it.

As for the remaining two poses...how about one with their weapon at the end of a big swing, or holding it up high abou to swing it down for a huge blow?

@Maximvs: Thanks for the kind words! Good eye with the aquilas, though I might keep them on there for now, as the other ones I've painted have them as well.

@ThisisJimmy: I'm south of the river near Rockingham. Thanks for the comments and ideas.

@Ahrimanjjb: Cheers! :P

@Kierdale: Thanks! I like those ideas, and I've yet to do any overhead swings.

I am so tired of you creating awesome threads and inspiring me to make a pre-heresy Fists army when I cannot afford it! If you could bring down the awesome amount in each of your threads, that would be great. Thanks a bunch.

@Marshal Sampson of Terra: Lol, cheers! Couldn't help but laugh after your post. I'll try my best but there are no guarantees :)

@Rik84: Thanks for the kind words. The metal chainswords are from the old Imperial Fists bits pack. I quite like this pack, but mainly for the icons and backpacks. Been waiting ages to find a use for the chainswords, and the old shoulder pads now live in my bits box.

Well I have a slight update. Got the majority of the colours on the marines done. Now its just details, battle damage and base.

As always c&c most welcome.

@augustmanifesto: Cheers! Added some more highlights to them. They looked a little too dark.

@Kierdale: Thanks and will do!

@Vulkan He'Dan: Thanks for the kind words. Good idea about the taunting, still need to make the last two marines for this unit.

@Chapter Master Furious: Thanks, they are one of my favourites as well.

Well had a productive evening and finished off these three. Now I need to make the last two. Any ideas would be welcome, I've got one with a power weapon and I'm unsure whether to use a power axe or a power sword. Any suggestions?

As always c&c most welcome.

Charging marine. Had a go at putting a wreath symbol around the Fist icon on his shoulder pad. Think it turned out alright.

oh man you're really going after my heart on these guys. Very, very nice. I like all the freehands. A general comment, though I don't mean to discourage: you're battle damage is super awesome BUT as you develop that skill more, I would recommend (a) concentrating on the edges of the armor more, ( b ) going for smaller metallic areas, ( c ) trying some sponging to get more realistic patterns. But, that said, these are really getting to be top class :)

Dude!

I've just read through this thread and I must say: this is some great stuff!

I recently started a IF army myself and this is just the kind of inspiration I need! Will you take it as a honest form of flattery if I just straight up copy you MKIII boarding squad? Becase those boys are looking really, really good!

I really enjoy your freehand stuff, it takes the models to the nex level. Really nice work, mate.

Keep 'em coming! :D

@augustmanifesto: Thanks! Great advice as well. I was a little rushed with the battle damage on them as I didn't know when my son would get up, but I definitely like your thinking. Thanks for the advice and will try to implement it on the last two.

@interkino: Cheers!

@Elspikeo: Thanks for the kind words, and copy away. I've drawn a lot of inspiration from here and glad I could at least give some worthy ideas to another hobbyist. The freehand at first was quite difficult, but I am finding the more I do, the more confident I get and the better it looks. Just practice. Good luck with your marines!

Great stuff.

One thing I saw that really improved squiggle-text was adding occasional, tiny, vertical lines to give the impression of some tall-letters, scattered through the freehand (or for that matter some dropping-characters a-la p's and q's). That might be something to experiment with.

@WingsOfTheFalcon: Thanks! Hoping to see your finished captain soon as well.

@Kierdale: Thanks for the kind words. I like your ideas for the freehand script. Makes sense, and sounds like it will be better than just squiggly horizontal lines. Will definitely give that a go on the last two.

I've now got the last two boarding marines assembled.

Fist up is the marine with the power weapon. Tried a few poses here before I settled on him charging forward with the sword ready to dart in and finish the foe.

http://i1203.photobucket.com/albums/bb383/lachdan/Picture-380.jpg

For this marine, his shield was a little warped. So I used the damned artificer's tip of using boiling water to reshape it. Took a few goes but looks a lot better than it did. For his pose I wanted an over head one, which took a bit of repositioning but got there in the end.

As always c&c most welcome. Still need to add some GS to fix some gaps in the arms. Might get that done tonight.

They look great!

Particularly glad you went with an overhead pose for one ;)

With the powersword-wielder, there seems to be an armour-plate over the back of his right forearm. That's the forearm plate of Mk.III armour right? Did you have to cut away the original arm/hollow it out in order to get it to fit? If so then that's impressive!
