JeffTibbetts
How did you get that amazing pitted metal finish? Holy cow, that's incredible. It almost looks like a botched primer coat, but I can tell it's only in some areas. HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!
Lorenzen
For the most part its how the tamiya gun metal ends up looking through an airbrush, its why its more obvious on the lower areas (zenith highlight of vma steel with a tiny amount of black ink covers some of it) but some of it is because the model under the paint is an old dread that i stripped for the purpose of testing out the IW scheme so its a little rough round the edges
Midnightmare
Your TDA dude is pure awesome, great work man (love the pose especially), but your Morti takes the biscuit, simply stellar work. Nice silver, but I love the yellow; it looks really vibrant against the darker armour. How did you paint that and also how did you 'chip' the hazard stripe, did you use a brush or a sponge? Or Magiks? :)
Lorenzen
Thanks dude, i love my Mortarion and despite him not netting me any games day success i wouldn't change a thing on him (he will be with me at the horus heresy weekender along with a good chunk of the dg if anyone wants to see any of this stuff in person btw) the yellow is really simple its a few thin layers of yriel yellow applied until its a solid colour (ideally it would've been airbrushed, but the model is all glued together) with highlights of vallejo model colour beige, then a thin wash of riekland flesh shade and a thin oil wash with raw umber. its a very simplified version of a recipe i used for an imperial fist based on the goldfish of justices lamenter recipe (with a few tweaks) at some point ill try and get a photo of him as he's in my local gw's cabinet alongside loken. Lorenzen
playing about with more iron warrior bits atm.. working on the actual iron warrior dread has given me a bit more clarity as to what i'm hoping to achieve with the "proper" one http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2014/331/0/b/iw1_by_typhion-d87vher.jpg Xavier Targhost, Ramell, Kizzdougs and 4 others 7 Back to top

Second the great hazard stripes... Perhaps more weathering in the middle of the knee?
Unknown Chronicler
I have to ask but how did you paint that dead Ultramarine? Also how did you do the Metal for that Iron Warrior? I'm thinking of starting them and just need a good colour recipe so I can properly start. Love your entire thread and is just amazing! ChaoticEric
Just read through your entire thread of putrid brilliance and it's awesome, exactly how I'd paint death guard if I had the skills to! Inspiring!
Lorenzen
With the weekender fast approaching i figured it was finally time to break my silence.. I have been working towards getting a decent 2.5k force ready for the saturday as i will be partaking in a rather large game with some other people and also entering the HH painting competition whilst i'm there too. Part of this required rebasing all my marines on to 32mm bases and with that task in mind i also figured i'd upgrade how i based them too (same method as the lamenters) Now some of this stuff is still in need of a few bits here and there to truly finish them, but they are done to a good enough level that i am happy to take them out for the big game on the 7th.. there is however more stuff that i am working on too.. House Makabius is currently in the process of getting a lot of new additions, the Paladin is finished, i have an errant im converting to have a fist rather than a chainsword.. the lancer (Senechal) is blocked in to most of its colours now and i have another plastic knight i haven't decided on loadout for yet.. The Iron Warrior dread I was practising stuff on spare bits for is also well on his way (fist is a placeholder) and then finally it wouldn't be a long overdue post from me without something from the left field.. "Halvar Jotunblood" aka a converted praetor I am doing for a friend. hopefully you made it through that post alive.. c&c welcome as always. oh and the ultramarine was painted with vallejo model colour royal blue washed heavily with agrax earthshade and drybrushed with basalt grey as far as i recall.. very messy and quick method, but as he was for a base and didnt want him detracting from kael it didnt matter too much. Tyrannicide
Your Praetor makes Typhon look like a nancy. The 32mm bases were a good call, and after seeing how well your rebases look, I'll definitely be doing the same. The DG have a strong cohesiveness that carries across all the infantry and armor. Very well done, man. Make sure to take some pics at the Weekender of that beautiful army on the tabletop! Is the IW Contemptor a one-off? death given form
New Kael is beastly. I like the use of red as a spot color; it is dark enough to not stand out too much but provides great contrast.

Daemon2027
Amazing. Truly amazing. Still the best Death Guard I have seen. Love the Iron Warrior contemptor, will you be painting more of them? And the Soace Wolf is looking fantastic. Will you be painting him or will your friend? Either way I would love to see some finished pics of him. Tyrannicide
Do you have any tips for making the imprints on the Wolf's braid? Or just some quality shapers and patience?
Lorenzen
I sculpted it separately to the rest of the hair, i looked at a lot of pictures of braids and using a very sharp (brand new) xacto blade added the various lines needed then pushed the edges in where i needed to to make it look natural then placed it on the model where i wanted it and blended the one end into his hairline.. Patience is a big part of it though
Lorenzen
Hey all, so one week on from the weekender and back onto hobbying.. unfortunatley due to real life circumstances i didn't get the dread finished, but the DG were all sorted bar a few little bits for the big game i took part in on the saturday and we fought our way to a draw in the end killing a thunderhawk and lots of space wolves, blood angels, ultramarines and a few imperial fists (curse his good rolling!) on the way.. all in all very good fun and it was nice to catch up with some people and make new friends too. Team Death Guard in all our glory.. Ollie, Me (rocking the gang signs..) Jason and Paul Rudge. and a picture of the currently built DG and Makabius that im working my way through.. the unbuilt pile is worryingly similar in size.. and finally because i had a bit of a spark of inspiration over the last week a bit of painting im working on.. been eyeing up the model for a little while and figured he'd be a nice display piece along with the unbuilt vulkan i have who will be appearing at golden daemon i think. *edit* extra pictures of the game.. Lovely work on Sev, nice to see you've gone for the more appropriate red hands. The mini "flares" on the lightning arcs is a particularly cool touch.
