I actually broke out my old 5 Sanguinary Guard I never finished and they've been sitting on my paint station for a couple of months. Each time I look at them, I get really unmotivated with all the changes happening around 40k, and also because it's not practical to play where I am and with my family's vulnerability to COVID-19.

I decided to stop working on them and do a palette cleanser, so to speak, of a Heresy Ultramarine Consul I had on my to-do list. So I took the Sanguinary guard out to where I store my models as they had basic colors blocked in and were tabletop, but not washed or highlighted at all. I dropped one and the wing broke off. I looked at it and something clicked. I had used super glue when I was just getting into Blood Angels, not plastic glue like I do now. I snapped off the wings and suddenly, they looked a lot better.

So they're now back on the painting list, but 2nd to this Consul I'm working on. Not a big update given the age of the thread, but something!

I go to the Texas Open this upcoming weekend, January 16-18, to play in the Warhammer 40,000 Narrative event. 4 games over 2x days. A buddy of mine is taking 120 kroot (and painted it in less than 2 months) and another is taking Orks. It's about 40 minutes away, so we'll be carpooling.

My family (wife and kids) are leaving me home alone for 2.5 weeks as they go to visit some family overseas while I hold down the pets, chickens, and work-fort, so I will try to post some updates.

I need to finish painting 5 assault terminators, touch up a librarian in terminator armor, and paint some cupola/pintle Multi-melta and stormbolter for the Land Raider I plan to deep strike this upcoming weekend.

Here's a progress shot of 3 terminators as I work to finish them this week. More posts on the list, games, and such to follow. Encouragement requested!

As I went 4+ years without updating the original topic, it has been archived. Link to that for easy reference for me. I typed all that lore about my chapter during Law School, and now that i have money to spend on the hobby as a result of then, I don't want to lose it! lol

@Father Mapple if you wanted, we could un-archive your previous post (and merge this), or we could leave it. Or you could start a blog in the Blog section of the website. Just thought I'd give you some options

Are you using an older edition to allow for deepstriking Land Raiders, or do you just house rule it?

It's the new Orbital Assault Detatchment. You can designate up to 3 units in a 2000pts force to deep strike. Still have to follow points restrictions for reserves and such. I only deep struck it once as the tables got so full! More on that in a bit. Writing stuff up today.

If you could, I'd really appreciate you un-archiving it and merging it, but only if it's not too much work for you! You've been so faithful and helpful for literally decades on this forum, I don't want to take advantage of your kindness.

Thanks so much, Reclusiarch!

Texas has been so cold (for Texas) I had models popping apart and lots of homeowner issues, but I'll be posting pictures from the event soon. The highlight was a 5 table game, 3 people per team on each table, with titans and orbital guns shooting across tables! my teammates were guard and sisters players, and we fought 3 of the 4 ork players who showed up, trying to defend a Titan from a huge waaaaugh.

Ok, so here's my report from the Texas Open 2026, in January. Narrative event, so not as much focus on just punching faces. 3.5 hour rounds, team "briefing" inbetween games or rounds. Was going with friends, one who brought Killa Kans Orks, another brought 129 Kroot models, and who won best painted. 40 people in the event. Split the teams into "Preserve the archaeotech for use by yourself" and "Destroy the archaeotech because it's too dangerous or forbidden."

List:
Orbital Assault Detachment, Blood Angels, 2000.

Terminator Ancient
Terminator Captain
Terminator Librarian
Librarian
Chaplain
Tactical Squad
Drop Pod
Drop Pod
Drop Pod
Assault Terminators x5
Assault Terminators x5
Terminators x10
Sternguard x10
Death Company w/ Bolt Rifles x10

Land Raider

Game 1: Killa Kan Orks. Each team had one objective they had to use actions on, which would kick the objective 6 inches forward next turn. Holding the objectives gave minimal points, but the big jump was getting it into the opponent's deployment zone.  My buddy and I grudge-matched. I deployed just a bit too close for Orks, and there was almost no backfield or space to drop things even turn 1, as the orks covered so much of the board. I should have brought everything in the first round. I was tabled bottom of turn 4. Those beast snagga character killed so many of the block of 10 terminators! No one gets all the way through them. The team won the round, though. I forgot pictures, or it was my buddy who took them all on this one.

Game 2: Orks again! But someone else. Very cool guy, fellow Army veteran. This was much closer with multiple objectives and holding them. Again, those beast snagga characters! He had the named one, as well. It was a slug fest, but the drop pods were used to block avenues and he wasted more than those pods were worth in taking things out. I didn't get tabled, but I did lose eventually.

That was all for game day 1.

The next day, it was advertised as two team games on the schedule. What it ended up being was a 5 separate board mega battle. The two teams each had multiple people on each table. Each table had objectives. The goal was to use the weapons on each table to shoot the opposing team's warlord titan, and the total number of wounds done to it would be the score to determine who wins. You could forego shooting the titan if you wanted to shoot these stupidly powerful weapons at units on other boards as well. Each objective on each table was the opportunity to shoot one weapon, so having control over more of the objectives allowed more shots to be taken at the enemy forces or titan. It was not normal titan stat lines or normal weapon profiles. The tables were set up with one in the center and one at each corner of the area. The center table could shoot at any table, and the corner tables could shoot at the center or 2 of the 3 other corner tables due to line of sight of the event room. lol!

It was myself, a sisters of battle player, and an imperial guard player. We faced 3 of the 4 ork players in the event who mobbed up to make the biggest Waaaugh.

Here's the deployment for our table.

Here's a picture of stuff we couldn't fit in our deployment area, so we put in reserves to walk on turn 2 from a neutral board edge, or turn 3 from any board edge.

It was awesome!

This walked in on ork turn 2:

Here's our board at the end.

In the end, Destruction lost by (approximately) 2450 to 2375 or so points. So a lot of damage was done to the titans! It was a lot of fun, and I'll be going to the 2027 Texas Open 40k Narrative for sure! The next event is the Dallas GT in May which will have a narrative event.
