Father Mapple
I actually broke out my old 5 Sanguinary Guard I never finished and they've been sitting on my paint station for a couple of months. Each time I look at them, I get really unmotivated with all the changes happening around 40k, and also because it's not practical to play where I am and with my family's vulnerability to COVID-19. I decided to stop working on them and do a palette cleanser, so to speak, of a Heresy Ultramarine Consul I had on my to-do list. So I took the Sanguinary guard out to where I store my models as they had basic colors blocked in and were tabletop, but not washed or highlighted at all. I dropped one and the wing broke off. I looked at it and something clicked. I had used super glue when I was just getting into Blood Angels, not plastic glue like I do now. I snapped off the wings and suddenly, they looked a lot better. So they're now back on the painting list, but 2nd to this Consul I'm working on. Not a big update given the age of the thread, but something! Father Mapple
I go to the Texas Open this upcoming weekend, January 16-18, to play in the Warhammer 40,000 Narrative event. 4 games over 2x days. A buddy of mine is taking 120 kroot (and painted it in less than 2 months) and another is taking Orks. It's about 40 minutes away, so we'll be carpooling. My family (wife and kids) are leaving me home alone for 2.5 weeks as they go to visit some family overseas while I hold down the pets, chickens, and work-fort, so I will try to post some updates. I need to finish painting 5 assault terminators, touch up a librarian in terminator armor, and paint some cupola/pintle Multi-melta and stormbolter for the Land Raider I plan to deep strike this upcoming weekend. Here's a progress shot of 3 terminators as I work to finish them this week. More posts on the list, games, and such to follow. Encouragement requested!Picture of 3 Assault Terminators As I went 4+ years without updating the original topic, it has been archived. Link to that for easy reference for me. I typed all that lore about my chapter during Law School, and now that i have money to spend on the hobby as a result of then, I don't want to lose it! lol Rhavien and Jolemai 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/270083-father-mapples-blood-suns-chapter-work-log/page/6/#findComment-6151314 Share on other sites

It's the new Orbital Assault Detatchment. You can designate up to 3 units in a 2000pts force to deep strike. Still have to follow points restrictions for reserves and such. I only deep struck it once as the tables got so full! More on that in a bit. Writing stuff up today. Father Mapple
Thanks so much, Reclusiarch! Texas has been so cold (for Texas) I had models popping apart and lots of homeowner issues, but I'll be posting pictures from the event soon. The highlight was a 5 table game, 3 people per team on each table, with titans and orbital guns shooting across tables! my teammates were guard and sisters players, and we fought 3 of the 4 ork players who showed up, trying to defend a Titan from a huge waaaaugh. Father Mapple
Ok, so here's my report from the Texas Open 2026, in January. Narrative event, so not as much focus on just punching faces. 3.5 hour rounds, team "briefing" inbetween games or rounds. Was going with friends, one who brought Killa Kans Orks, another brought 129 Kroot models, and who won best painted. 40 people in the event. Split the teams into "Preserve the archaeotech for use by yourself" and "Destroy the archaeotech because it's too dangerous or forbidden." List: Orbital Assault Detachment, Blood Angels, 2000. Terminator Ancient Terminator Captain Terminator Librarian Librarian Chaplain Tactical Squad Drop Pod Drop Pod Drop Pod Assault Terminators x5 Assault Terminators x5 Terminators x10 Sternguard x10 Death Company w/ Bolt Rifles x10 Land Raider Game 1: Killa Kan Orks. Each team had one objective they had to use actions on, which would kick the objective 6 inches forward next turn. Holding the objectives gave minimal points, but the big jump was getting it into the opponent's deployment zone. My buddy and I grudge-matched. I deployed just a bit too close for Orks, and there was almost no backfield or space to drop things even turn 1, as the orks covered so much of the board. I should have brought everything in the first round. I was tabled bottom of turn 4. Those beast snagga character killed so many of the block of 10 terminators! No one gets all the way through them. The team won the round, though. I forgot pictures, or it was my buddy who took them all on this one. Game 2: Orks again! But someone else. Very cool guy, fellow Army veteran. This was much closer with multiple objectives and holding them. Again, those beast snagga characters! He had the named one, as well. It was a slug fest, but the drop pods were used to block avenues and he wasted more than those pods were worth in taking things out. I didn't get tabled, but I did lose eventually. PXL_20260117_222744137 That was all for game day 1. The next day, it was advertised as two team games on the schedule. What it ended up being was a 5 separate board mega battle. The two teams each had multiple people on each table. Each table had objectives. The goal was to use the weapons on each table to shoot the opposing team's warlord titan, and the total number of wounds done to it would be the score to determine who wins. You could forego shooting the titan if you wanted to shoot these stupidly powerful weapons at units on other boards as well. Each objective on each table was the opportunity to shoot one weapon, so having control over more of the objectives allowed more shots to be taken at the enemy forces or titan. It was not normal titan stat lines or normal weapon profiles. The tables were set up with one in the center and one at each corner of the area. The center table could shoot at any table, and the corner tables could shoot at the center or 2 of the 3 other corner tables due to line of sight of the event room. lol! It was myself, a sisters of battle player, and an imperial guard player. We faced 3 of the 4 ork players in the event who mobbed up to make the biggest Waaaugh. Here's the deployment for our table.PXL_20260118_154617425 Here's a picture of stuff we couldn't fit in our deployment area, so we put in reserves to walk on turn 2 from a neutral board edge, or turn 3 from any board edge.PXL_20260118_154632232 It was awesome! This walked in on ork turn 2: PXL_20260118_211241533 Here's our board at the end. PXL_20260118_225050045 The board at the center of the 5 tables: PXL_20260118_184447184 In the end, Destruction lost by (approximately) 2450 to 2375 or so points. So a lot of damage was done to the titans! It was a lot of fun, and I'll be going to the 2027 Texas Open 40k Narrative for sure! The next event is the Dallas GT in May which will have a narrative event. Father Mapple
Ok. So, more updates. Deciding to do a more mechanized list next, so I'm getting all the modeling done for it. List is: CPT in Term Armor Libby in Term Armor Techmarine Techmarine Tactical Squad Term Assault Squad x5 Terminator Squad x10 Baal Pred x2 (alternating turrets, but HB sponsons)Pred AnnihilatorPred Destructor Land Raider Stormraven Gunship Some overlap with previous list. Need to add the hunter killer missiles and storm bolters to all these vehicle chassis. They cost points in so many editions, so I left them off! They better not cost points individually again. lol. After digging through my bits boxes, I think I found everything I need! Except techmarines. SO I decided to try and cobble some together out of BA bits and other marines. Predator AnnihilatorPXL_20260214_222005433 Predator Destructor sitting next to the Annihilator:PXL_20260215_025549741 Baal with Flamestorm Cannon. I filed the fluers de lyses off. Firstborn Vanguard Vets and Sanguinary Guard bits as well. Missile backpack from older Tactical or Devastator squad was the replacement for the servo arm.PXL_20260219_025704913 Techmarine 2: Made from much of the same kits for this one, just a different arrangement. Father Mapple
Got signed up for the Warhammer Open Narrative 40k event! Very excited. Going with the same 2 buddies as the Texas Open in January. Based on the previous player packets for Warhammer Open events, it looks like 5 games of 1000pts each, with 1500pts on the crusade force to select from. I'm going to need to trim down my list, but it looks like less painting needed for this next event, which isn't bad! That means I get to focus on painting what I want, which is finishing up this Ironstorm force in the previous post. If annyone else has been to a GW Narrative even lately, let me know what it's like! Father Mapple
Little more of an update: Got some airbrush "Black Matt" primer from Army Painter last week. Spent time this last weekend priming all the gunners, cupolas, hunter killer missles, stormbolters, a multi melta, and the other non-points vehicle add-ons. Also primed the two "Tech Marines" I made. I swapped the hammer for the axe so one is "WYSIWYG" for the Narrative in May, with gravis pistol and a big axe. The other will be the Crucible version character, I guess? Thunder hammer, gravis armor, some kind of nice bolt pistol equivalent from the old sanguinary guard wrist bolter, and give it a techmarine ability and forge bolter. Those Crucible rules are neat for custom characters. How about a Terminator with Narthecarium that has Encarmine Blade? Like the old sanguinary priest in terminator armor I used to have! I like regenerating terminators in assault! Brutalis Dread with a 4++ and extra abilities to buff others? Sure! No pictures of any real progress right now. List for the Grand Narrative: 1000pts games, 1500 Crusade Force. I built it in 3 "chunks" so I could pick different ones for different battles. Vanguard Spearhead - if shot from +12", -1 to be hit and Cover Main chunk: 525 Libby Terminator 75 10 Terminators 340 (2 heavy weapons, 2 chain fists) Lieutenant with Combi Weapon 85 The Blade Bites Deep - Infiltrate to unit enhancement, on Libby. (Yes, infiltrating 11 Terminators). 475 Chaplain in Terminator 75 Assault Terminators 180 TH/SS for all Landraider 220 470 Predator Annihilator 135 Las Sponsons Predator Destructor 140 HB Sponsons Predator Destructor 140 HB Sponsons Techmarine 55 Its not got a lot of action economy shenanigans. That's ok. It's a bully list. Either they can deal with 11 Terminators in their face, or they can't. Sometimes the other portion of the hammer/anvil is a Landraider with a nasty assault prize inside, or it's a ton of vehicle shooting. We'll see! Setting up a practice game with 2 of the 5 of us going. Father Mapple
My "All Kroot" buddy and I played a couple of 1000 point games last weekend to try out our Dallas Open Narrative lists. Kroot are fast. All the army getting scout is tricky to play around. First game, I took the terminator block and 3 predators+techmarine. This one ended turn 3, realistically. The terminators only lost one, and the predators didn't take much damage - they killed all the Krootox big guys who could do anything in 2 rounds of shooting. My dice were hot. So hot I was sending pictures to the rest of the play group, and they were asking who I was and what they had done with the normal me who can't save 10 terminators from 11 saves. lol. Predators minced things and kept the home and one objective. The techmarine countercharged a small unit that had some anti-tank stuff, and the terminators killed lots of kroot by infiltrating within 12 inches, getting 36 storm bolter shots with sustained hits and 12 assault cannon shots. Second game, I swapped the predators for the Landraider and assault terminator unit. This one I lost, and honestly, because of a few "must move towards enemy units" or "must move towards objectives" in the assault phase consolidation moves. Just kept taking me within engagement range of other kroot because my All Kroot Buddy was clever and tarpitted them just enough and strung them out enough to keep the death stars tied up. The action economy for secondaries is practically non-existent. I'm thinking about changing the land raider block, but I probably don't have time with the event just a month away. Hobby-wise, I need to paint a chaplain in terminator armor, finish 3 predators, finish highlights on 5 assault terminators, and paint the techmarine kitbash. It's doable! Father Mapple
3 predator chassis and all turret and sponson options finished and sealed. Pics coming tomorrow if I have time before Warhammer Dallas Open starts! Got base coats on tech Marine and 3 stormbolter gunners done last night, and the red wash. They're a brighter "mars red" kind of color compared to the merlot/burgundy maroon of the flesh tearer kind of color for my main force. Still a lot of black and copper and gun metal. I'm going to play in the Space Marine 2 4 player team tournament tonight at opening. The team I'm playing with got 2nd last year, so maybe I won't drag them down to 3rd. Not attending Friday as it's the narrative I'm going to, so that's just Saturday and Sunday. So I'll finish up any bits and bobs tonight. I don't have time to do the chaplain in Terminator armor justice worthy of the collectors model, so I'm switching the list to an ancient with storm bolter and thunder Hammer, which I had done from the previous character for BA they made. Rothellos? I don't remember. It's a cool model though. It's exciting times! Father Mapple
I posted a few weeks ago about how I was going to the Warhammer Open Dallas, but I hadn't gotten around to writing the post until now. First, I want to say I had a great weekend! It was a lot of fun. The people running the narrative did an amazing job. I enjoyed the terrain layouts with tables that were really full, with lots of pieces, three different themes across the 40-something tables. This meant for 5 games, I could play on different types of terrain three times at least. The narrative story and missions were fun as they had somewhat random objectives, and the organizers used the Maelstrom missions with objectives that could be picked up or dropped. I hadn't played those before, but they provided cards with the missions and deployments printed on them, and did a Google Doc with the objectives rules, and the same mission information. It was kind of a bad list for me with vehicles and a block of terminators! But I knew objectives would be tough and it ended up being a lot of fun. Three of the games literally ended on the last possible roll of the game, where if I had rolled a four to six for a save or advance roll, I would win, and a one to three meant I lost. I rolled one to three at the very end of all three games! That did mean they were very close games, and the opponents were universally awesome and friendly. I also enjoyed playing near or alongside the friends I went with. They all did better than me because they won at least one game. lol. There was a lot of neat stuff there to buy that would normally be only available previously on forge world or on the web store only. When I went to Warhammer World last summer, the Invictarus Suzerains I picked up for my Ultramarines Heresy army were missing two shields. The very lovely workers at the Dallas Open let me bring the kit in the next day (with my receipt) and swap the one from Nottingham for a box they had of the suzerains there on site! I can never fault GW for their customer service if something was wrong with a model. I enjoyed the armies I played against, which included Necrons, Orks, Votan, Genestealer Cults, and Khorne demons. Everyone was really friendly and had themed 1000 point lists. The most hilarious highlight of the weekend was having lightning claw terminators run (or advance) around like chickens with their heads cut off for three turns dodging necron destroyer cults and their tank killer units. All that running between and hiding in the great line of sight blocking terrain was very courageous of them. But the only reason the three games were so close was that I tried to play to the objectives. I finished painting the units the week of the Open and I'll post those pictures below. I hope you can see the time I spent on them. These are probably the last Blood Angel units I paint for a little while until 11th comes out and I really figure out what's going on then. In the meantime, the two projects I'll be switching to are some Drukhari that I received unpainted from a friend painting up a combat patrol on the way to working up a thousand points. I also hope to expand my 750 Heresy Ultramarines into the 1000s soon. I really appreciate you all reading along with this. And here's the link to my other forum posts where I talk about my other armies like my Heresy Ultramarings, metal kasrkin and Imperial Agents killteams previously. I'll have to see if I can make a new one and have them merged or something. https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/323827-father-mapples-heresy-ultramarines-and-kill-teams/ But I'll always be first and foremost a Son of Sanguinius in my heart. I'm listening to Dante right now, in fact! I'm enjoying it, but there's altogether too many discussions about drinking urine early on.
