Making Noise Marines Scream

Awesome thread.  Gives inspiration to another what if, what I can do to make an army if I don't get my stuff back.

Specifically it will take a lot less time to put together, as I'll run it as Violators instead of spending weeks coming up with crap.

Just starting out with 40k and I'm curious what kind of chaos lord you chose, and what is the rules towards sonic weapons?

If you're just starting out now I'd hold off a little as the new rulebook comes out at the end of the month so things may change.

What I like about Slaanesh is the versatility with the Lord.  It's more than the Nurgle one who can take hits, you have the Initiative to have Instant Death weapons hit and most of the time you're just shy of the toughness.  Noise Marines and Plague Marines are a little tougher to gauge, because at basic MSU I want Plague Marines with their staying and two plasmas, but if we're pumping more points or coverage, I want Noise Marines with a Blast Master and an Icon, or even a single unit of Sonic Blasters.

About the only thing I don't like is having to take the Lord for the unlock, but that's a whole other problem which I have to keep in check in a few weeks.

@ Incenerator - I've been running a Crimson Slaughter Lord with blade/demonheart/horns and steed. Run him up the side with a bodyguard of spawn, and he is gloriously terrifying for the enemy. He can single-handedly wipe squads, and other than some bad luck vs overwatching meltaguns (Seriously, my opponents are 2/2 on overwatch censored.gif ) he does not go down easily. Just make sure that you hit a infantry squad first, to power up the sword, then nothing can stand in your way.

With the loss of focused fire (choosing to hit enemy with no, or specific levels of, cover save) you can put the Slaanesh lord on a Steed of Slaanesh rather than a bike now without the enemy being able to put all their shots into him, no?

So has anything changed for us with the new rulebook? I haven't seen it yet. Please tell me salvo doesn't still suck...

With Unbound you can ignore the Lord tax for the Noise Marines and take more Sorcerors instead. I'm going to try 2 Slaanesh Sorcs and a CS Balestar Sorc in my Sonic heavy list.

Were there changes to how Blast works?  I can't seem to find any in the new rules, but I've only read them through once so far.  But I am glad Ignores Cover didn't get nerfed, as was rumored.  Not thrilled about the new Night Fighting rules though - I think the way it was handled in 6th was better overall for Blastmasters.

Focus fire is gone, but I think a steed Lord technically still has the problem of not being able to run when part of a bike unit.  (Since entire units still must run, and bikes can't.)  But if your opponent isn't a stickler for RAW, then yeah, this option got a bit better, though the new Jink has its pros and cons for bikes too.

And yes, Salvo still sucks, so so much for Sonic Blasters.  (Though a Battle-Forged Primary Detachment does now have a slightly better chance of getting Infiltrate if you take the Strategic Traits, which I suppose could help make Sonic Blasters a bit more useful.)

Okay, im going to shamelessly rip this build and try it in my game lol

With unbound, can we attach to a unit of allies? like a fiend riding sorcerer ina unit of seekers? I have the book but no time to go through it for another couple of days :/

I see a lot of synergy in taking Divination and Telepathy Sorcerers. Prescience on Sonic Blasters? Invisability on Daemonettes? Yes please! The Lord is no longer so necessary, especially if you just take 1 large Siren/Sonic Blaster NM squad or 2 min Blastmaster squads. Cultists and allied Daemonettes provide cheap OS and Crimson Slaughter Malefic could help keep the Daemonettes 'topped up'.

With the added survivability to vehicles I also see Rhinos being used to put NM squads mid table turn 1 as an option. Wasting a HQ to get infiltrate doesn't seem worth it now (was it ever?) and while you'll lose one turn of full shooting, being up to 18" up the board allows you to get into that area of the board NM thrive in. I might give Sonic Blasters a go; 3-5 turns of salvo 3 with whatever psychic boosts I can give them sounds fun.

My biggest issue and worry with the lists in this thread are the lack of anti-flyer. I would like to see a Slaanesh list that rocks Noise Marines and Daemonettes but that can still take on Skyblight Nids or Astra Militarum Valks.

Dallas

Considering a NM army since it seems my friend ignores me whenever I ask about my belongings.

However, I have no intention of running hippy allies and unbound. I'll probably just take a CS Lord with the botr and kit him out, take a few blasterboxes and a mayhem pack. This is assuming a lot though.

Bonzi have you had a chance to play any 7th ed and if yes how how you changed your list ? To everybody else who reads this thread how would you change his 1850 list for 7th?

I have played a few 7th ed games so far but they have been with my White Scars army. I have army ADD and all those test battles and battle reports burnt me out on my Noise Marine army so they have been shelved until my fancy once again turns to Chaos.  Now I'm building towards White Scars and Tempestus Scions as army types I've never experimented with.

I'm not sure a lot of 7th ed changes would effect my NM army list a whole lot.  As others pointed out, with the improved viability of armor Doom Siren NM's in a Rhino become more attractive and make unallied Slaanesh CSM armies more viable.  With a return to some degree of mech it would become more important to include long range anti-tank in your armies (more oblits, more autocannon havoks).  With the ability to ally more than just the limited allies detachment with your NM CSM, fun things like twin Heralds of Slaanesh or dual Soul Grinders become possible to add to the mix for more fun.

Take up the torch and run with it.  Find new fun ways to effectively play armies that the internet list builder nazi's don't like and tell others about it.  Enthusiasm is infectious in a hobby filled with internet naysayers and doom criers.

A request for the Mods (who I know are busy): When you get the chance, please link this topic to the pinned "++Tactical: Chaos Space Marines 7th ed++" topic, under "+Elite - Cult Units+ Noise Marines."  This is the single best topic I've ever seen on how to get the most out of Noise Marines, and it would be a shame for it to be lost in the consolidation.

Seconded.

I'll post up my batrep later tonight, 1850 with my "heads and tails" list ;)

It's been a long time since anyone posted in this thread, so I suppose Bonzi isn't really playing his Slaanesh themed army anymore. I can state that during the same time period that he was tinkering with his list and playing regularly I was undergoing a similar process with my Tzeentch List which prominantly features Thousand Sons.

My Tzeentch list is based around a number of useful tricks, aggressive daemons, and a powerful psychic phase. It looks something like this:

Ahriman [One Tzeentch Power, Three Biomancy Powers] - (Infiltrating Units - Flamers (1st), Obliderators (2nd), Thousand Sons (3rd))

Thousand Sons (x9) w Meltabombs, Chaos Rhino w Dozer Blades

Thousand Sons (x8) w Meltabombs, Chaos Rhino w Dozer Blades

Obliderators (x2) w MoT, VotLW

Forgefiend w Hades Autocannons

Herald of Tzeentch w PL3, Grimiore of True Names

Horrors (x16) w Chaos Icon

Flamers of Tzeentch (x9) w Ch, Lesser Reward

Screamers of Tzeentch (x9)

I entered a major escalation tournament and went undefeated (seven wins, one tie) but came 2nd because I didn't get my painting in on time one week.

But back on topic - I've recently taken up a similar approach using Emperor's Children models and Slaanesh Daemons and I'm finding it pretty fun to play. I don't suppose anyone has looked at the newer options that have come out from Forgeworld recently? The EC Sonic Dreadnaught is pretty cool, though its a bit expensive for AV12.

The last I saw Bonzi was returning to blood angels. As for noise marines, i believe they are one of the best cult troops and slaanesh is one of the most cohesive and competitve gods at the current moment. Let's get this thread rolling again as it was the source of alot of information on "Making Noise Marines Scream" Sons of Fulgrim, you must act like nurgle to help perfect our strategies :D revive this page
