I'm currently almost done with the Destroyer squad then all that's left for my 2nd vow is a Spartan and a Praetor :D

 

I may be able to squeeze in another couple of small vows as well ;)

My Spartan's hull and weapons are well on their way with only final highlights and weathering remaining, as are the two Justaerin, but I've run into a problem with the Spartan's tracks.

 

It seems I'm missing one track piece and of course it also had to be an importan frontal one. I'll call Forgeworld about it tomorrow but I doubt I'll get a replacement in time for ETL deadline. So I'll only have a mostly complete Spartan ready for my vow it seems...

Lovely Death Guard Durfast, especially the glowing volkite weapons!

It's about as finished as I can make it until I get the missing track piece (the other one isn't glued either as I want to see if the replacement will fit in any better than the one I have first(which fits poorly without me taking a knife to it)). The only thing left is applying weathering powders but for that I want the tracks in place so that I'll get a coherent finish.

 

Next, I need to add finishing touches to the two remaining Justaerin and then it's Angron. I'll start working on him tomorrow but I'll probably cut it close to the finishing time, as on thursday morning I'm heading to Serbia as part of Finland's Flames of War ETC team. I'll get back home on tuesday next week and finish Angron in the time left.

Superb spartan! how did you achieve that white and what color did you use for the chipping effects?

 

i ask because lots of WE players are divided over doing a black (nuln oil) wash or a brown wash (agrax earthshade?)

With the jump packsare probably one of the most effective units in the list and give a number of tactical options to change your game. Of course if they look like that they are an auto-win! ;) Btw where's the Praetor helm from? And is the head a seperate piece or did you have to operate Dr. Frank -o- steen? :lol:

 

@ telhdrat: Yeap - it'll will do! ;) Looks fantastic to me and the subtle tear and wear is very fitting. Some people go overboard with battle damage and I find it quite distracting... The WE team is quite strong on the ETL! hahahaha!!!

Thanks, yeah, I'm hoping the destroyers work well in my overall list.

 

The Praetor head is the Lord Executioner head from the new GW mini, fortunately the heads are separate on both minis.

@ Spikejames: oh joy! The Preator head although very detailed it sort of looks a bit too old and tired... An easy swap gives the mini a new potential!

 

 

 

On a different note, I've been thinking of putting together a HH event in the WIP section after the ETL is over. I've thought it up and I think you guys will like it - nothing as competitive as the ETL mind you. But here's the question: when was Betrayal released last year? Was it October? I'm assuming (perharps wrongly) that Massacre will be released in the same time frame?

Semper, Easy my friend, I have base coated and washed 2-3 contemptors, the avenger has it's base coat and primary colours on, there's detailing, washing, highlighting and servitor crew to do. I don't have any weathering kit so that will shorten the paint time (though I'm tempted to try some out on the avenger). I've a small 2nd vow lined up actually, but we'll see....

 

Betrayal was released at GamesDay last year, so end of Sept, what are you planning? I'm in whatever, having the ETL to do has forced me to concentrate on getting some done, and my small force of Iron Warriors looks great sat together all painted up :)

I'm also in whatever you are planning Captain Semper. As AngelsAbsolute said this has been a good way to get things painted. I'm going to start an Isstvan three campaing from Betrayal with my brother once I'm done, beginning with the Red Angel Cometh scenario.

 

depthcharge12- It was quite simple really. I undercoated the Spartan with Skull White, then airbrushed Vallejo Model Air white, and used Citadel Ceramite White anywhere where it still didn't have a good coverage. Once that and the other parts were finished, I washed the entire model with a mix of Rhinox Hide, Chaos Black, Lahmian Medium and water.  Finally, I went over the white parts with Ceramite White again, leaving some of the wash showing trough.

 

The chipping was done by sponging on Doombull Brown followed by Leadbelcher for the white parts and black and Leadbelcher for the blue part.

 

And yeah, I've used Badab Black/Nuln Oil for my World Eater infantry and they look good to me. But it didn't really work with the vehicles so I went with a browner wash for them.

Wow! Not only a completion  but a follow-up to?

 

Fist let me tell you, I really like your Spratan - I (like most) find white an intimidating color to work with but I've seen here some fantastic treatment of it! Congratulations for completing such an ambitioous project Spikyjames - You've build yourself a formidable WE force in 3 months at a very high standard - you should be proud of yourself!

 

Now those Thallax, I'll be interested to see how they turn out... Are you going for the warm metal/red coloration that is suggested for Adeptus Mechanicus? Or are you going for a cold metal/ blue to tie them with your WE force?

 

Whatever it is, I look forward to it! :D
