Gentlemen,

 

May I present my completed ETL vow. 400 points worth of the Sons of Horus. Really pleased with them. Can I just say thanks to the BnC for organising the event, it's been great to see so many excellent projects take shape. Wish I had a better place to photograph these, on some nice terrain perhaps or a nice photoshop but my tatty old desk will have to do!

@capt semper...anymore on info on what your plan is for after the etl? sounds interesting already and definitely be interested!

This is just fantastic! The painting and the sense of drama! I think you've nailed the purple / white combo! Regardless of whether you make your vow you've completed some super awesome minis for your HH army Laborious! Well done!!!




Thank you very much, mate. It's slow going but I'm glad I've taken the time to individualise each model, even if it does mean I've spent the last 2 days faffing about modifying the legs and torso on my devastator sergeant. ohmy.png Still, deadline's August 15th 2021, right? msn-wink.gif


@spikeyjames - a truly remarkable achievement to complete such a mammoth project in such a short span of time. The quality of the finished work is of such a high standard that it wasn't until you posted your excellent tutorial that I realised how simple your painting method was for this army, and how you have expertly used the weathering to disguise that fact. Whilst I absolutely love your cleaner, more involved work, it's your knowledge of what stages can be skipped on a model for an army project like this that I most admire. It's something that I, with my often intermittent relationship with the hobby, have never developed a feel for. smile.png Still hate you though! tongue.png


@geordie - Lovely work, mate. I agree completely with Semp, there are as many schemes for the SOH as there are painters who paint them, but yours is a unique and extremely successful take on them. smile.png


@chaplain mortis - Absolutely fantastic conversion, mate. Really has worked well. smile.png Is that binocular arm from one of the vehicle crew?

@ Mortis: Well, it says XIV just by looking at it! :D Superb job mate. As regards the post ETL stuff, stay tuned... The important thing is the focus on the ETL for now - will you be Custos Fidei or Oath Breaker? :P

 

@ Laborious: If I extend it to 2021, will you make it? :unsure: :lol:

@Laborius, thanks for the really nice comments, they're much appreciated. It's almost something I do subconsciously when painting armies, I don't really think about my methods a lot of the time.

Anyway, I've now finished my 3rd Vow biggrin.png

Time for another;

I Spikyjames answer the call of E TENEBRAE LUX and vow to complete 1 Legion Typhon Heavy Siege Tank with Heavy Bolters from HH:Betrayal of total value 370 on or before August 15th. Success will bring eternal glory to the XII Legion, World Eaters and failure will doom me to bear the Badge of Shame until the year-end.

No, not after the recent crash of the site that resulted in the loss of 2 1/2 weeks worth of posts... I'm letting it as it was in July 12th in the hope that order will be restored, if ever... Until then I'm updating my private records, and everything will be revealed in the Final Report once the ETL is over. There is a link to last year's Final Report in the first page, so expect something similar ths year too... ;)

 

 

Edit: A TYPHON? You got until Thursday mate... Good luck! ;)

 

Edit 2: the Thallax look great with gloss black heads. We're they difficult to put together?

Right, both spikyjames' and Haranin's completions are registered. Congratulations guys!

 

@ Haranin: I considered including other gaming systems but decided against. Too many practical problems in attempting to keep the event level for everyone. So I fugured I let those who want to do BFG and Epic and such to enter them as out-of-competition entries. That way they get the motivation, win/fail badges (depending on whether they make it or not) and can post their work on the relevant strategiums. It's just that the points won't count towards the total of the faction nor will the out-of-competition vows limit in any way the 5 vows allowed for the event. Hope this helps...

@angels...thanks for your kind words mate, as for your own minis, im sure I have mentioned it before but you have really nailed that "iron" colour for your army..and it is so nice to see iron warriors without spikes and arrows on themno.gif ...3 contemptors and an avenger! good luck mate and cant wait to see em finished!

@laborious...damn why didn't I think of using the vehicle crew arm! would have saved some head scratching...its the arm from a mk4 heavy weapon trooper and the magnoculars from the plastic scouts kit..lots of rummaging through the bitz box for those partslaugh.png ..and a big thumbs up for your contemptor....easily one of the best 3rd legion dreads I have seen painted, props on the base aswell!..are those palatine blades making there way to the painting table anytime soon..

@spikeyjames...seriously mate! another vow!laugh.png im convinced you have had your fingers replaced with paintbrushes now! well done to you sir as you have a fantastic army there in such a short space of time...anymore worldeaters from you after the etl..look forward to seeing the typhon

only 2 more deathguard to paint now for completion of vow...

@AA - THREE Dreadnoughts! First Spikey, and now you! Stop making me feel bad people! I'm starting to feel like the poor kid doing cross country who has been lapped about 6 times already! ;)

 

@Chaplain Mortis - Haha! It's even better then, mate! As for the palatines, they may be a few more weeks. :( I'd started working on  a 5 man Dev squad for my final vow, and even though I'm now irredeemably behind schedule I'll finish them off before playing with the palatine squad, which i'm very much looking forward to. My plan is to cannibalise the kit slightly, so the 5 man Palatine squad will be turned into 5 palatine blades/Honour Guards + a standard bearer and Praetor. There's a rough bluetac mockup of the praetor a few posts back on my PLOG which i put together just to see how it would look.
