haha thanks. Actually, my hands were actually pretty much perma-sooty for about a month after the fire, from salvaging/dumping and cleaning our stuff . Gets in the creases of your hands and under nails, in wounds and slowly opens up cracks in the flesh... Not to mention stopping the healing process in its tracks. I had to take a few days off at one pojnt because my hands were so sore!

thought i'd leave a progress shot. the red pads are currently masked (hence the blobs) and the white ones are mostly done, i tried to have a fairly high degree of zenithal highlighting on the whites. i am getting the hang of this airbrush thing! the gradient on the pads was achieved quite simply with a vallejo air grey base basecoat and with successive glazes of white (vallejo air white + vallejo glaze medium + golden airbrush medium). so much easier to do this with glazes!!

Thanks, Maverik!

My friend is starting a campaign in his basement in a few weeks so I need to try and get a respectable portion of my army at the very least assembled and on bases but preferably base-coated (just the grey and any other large areas I can do with the airbrush) by then. I'm hoping to get done(ish):

My two squads of grey hunters that I am currently painting

A games day wolf priest to accompany one squad

The land raider Proteus for the other squad

15 blood claws that are already built

Their land raider crusader

6 long fangs (still need lots of green stuff wolfing up!!)

5 wolf scouts with plasma gun and gunslingers

5 TWC and a thunderlord

A heavily converted (large beard and magnetized chooser of the slain) rune priest

Fire raptor

Of course, no way in hell. But hey!

I am so sorry to hear about the difficulties that you & the wife have been through, but I am glad tha you have all come through it okay, sore hands not with-standing.

Your man-cave looks amazing and your modelling painting skills are great. I really like how you have done the fur on your wolves, the brown/ black transition is awesome. Any tips on how you achieved it?

Thanks for the many kind words!

Actually, I loosely followed a YouTube guide from buypainted for the thunder wolf lord, and have just been experimenting with various deviations (for instance using washes vs glazes to achieve different effects etc. It is quite fun!!

Fantastic work Skeletoro! Congrats! Seeing your work makes me want to continue my army! I have begun dabbling with my new airbrush as well, but I am practising on my Dystopian Wars army first, because it has no sentimetal value - just a play and put away army - unlike my Space Wolves which I adore. The only downside I find is the constant cleaning which is bit annoying. Maybe in 20 years they will invent a self-cleaning airbrush teehee.gif . Until then, patience is a virtue I guess.

Also I am sorry to read about your personal problems. Keep your spirits high my friend.

Keep up the great work.

No problem. I should probably also point out Night Runner's excellent WIP shots and modelling guides on his blog trueminiwargamer.blogspot.com . Best way to find them is to click the link to see on all posts with the tags you're interested in (e.g. space wolves, no talent required - his tutorial series' name -, grey hunters, etc.)

A quick update! I've just finished filling in some blocks of colour using the airbrush and a liquid mask. Today i took the masks off and am pretty happy with the result.

I havee done most of the reds, golds, and the skin tones as well as the bqse armour and the white shoulder pads, where applicable. my masking skills held me back a little here, but i have figured out how i can do it better next timw. As expected there is a bit of tidy up to do as the masking wasnt perfect (applied with a toothpick!) but that's no big difficulty. i am really happy with the golds (not sure how well they've shown up in the pics).

Sadly, one of the resin chain axes from FW still had mould release agent on it (apparently?) in spite of my cleaning it in simple green, and all the paint has peeled off it. doh!

Next up, transfers (while i have gloss varnish on the model and chucking them on bases, then time to pull out the ol' fashioned brushes!

ok, first grey hunter mostly done (pretty much just need to paint the base and do weathering).

Although I am fairly pleased with it over all, there are a bunch of things I've learnt in the process and things I'll do differently next time. So rather than be too perfectionistic about fixing this guy's flaws, I'll get him finished md move onto the next few msn-wink.gif
