These are going to be my graffitied Thousand Sons. The story is that some rubricae got left behind in the depths of a hive world when their sorcerer died. They gathered dust and repainting until it was believed they were just statues of noble heroes of the Imperium. And then they were forgotten still further as the hive grew ever higher. Abandoned to the depths, they were covered in gang signs and other such graffiti, until the Tide of Blood came bringing with them a sorcerer capable of running the rubricae. They are also my second vow for the ETL IV.

I need some advice for my painting today.
a. Can I do masking/chipping with just tiny pieces of painters tape covering the portions that I have already painted as the bit meant to be underneath?

b. What sort of graffiti would one find on statues in the depths of a hive world?

Marn, the Rustmad, the Blind Prophet of Decay

Marn was of the line of the Iron Hands, though none now can say precisely when or where his fall occurred. The nature of his fall, however, is far better known, to those who dare listen to his ravings. When cleansing a world of the cult of the Green Spiral, Marn was severely injured in the final battles. Both of his eyes had to be replaced with bionics. However, Marn noticed after a few months that a layer of tarnish began to cloud them, no matter how long or hard he scrubbed, he could do little but slow their decay. Eventually they began to give faulty readings. Accordingly he had them replaced, hoping that something wrong with their construction had caused all of his problems.

He was wrong. Days after their replacement, not only did they tarnish, but so too began the rest of Marn’s bionic replacements. He took to wearing robes at all times to cover his rapidly increasing deterioration, abandoning any hope of keeping himself clean. Still, his ability to fight seemed undiminished, and Marn’s brothers tolerated his deviance for the time being. But then the visions returned.

Struck by a vision of daemons and betrayal during a jump through warpspace, Marn took up his blade and stalked through his clan, rooting out the what he believed were monsters attempting to possess his brothers. Yet his blade grew slick not with the blood of traitors, but of those very souls he sought to save. When the vision ended, and Marn looked out upon the death his fury had wrought, the grim tally that his arms, with strength he had never known, had taken, he broke. Something deep within his mind snapped, echoing deep into the warp, and the grandfather laughed.

Marn’s sorrow engulfed him, he sat on his knees and stopped fighting, stopped caring, stopped everything. The death and despair he had brought to bear weakened the already tenuous Gellar fields of the clanship and a tide of nurglings and plaguebearers rushed through the thousand cracks that had formed. Great flies choked out the air exchange and though first there was shouting and noise, all became silent and still.

Then Marn, mind unshackled from reason and purpose, began to laugh. His laughter rang and rang for longer than any being’s laughter should. His body wracked and twisted with the bone splintering cackles. When at long last Marn stopped, he was changed. Grown in size and strength, his body pushed out at the confines of his bionic limbs, till they too stretched with him. Great rotting pinions laced with rusted metal bones sprouted from a broken and protruding metal spine. Crawling to his feet, Marn picked up his combat blade, now grown magnificent and terrible, steeped in the souls of his dead brothers.

Now Marn stalks the universe, unhinged and always ahead of a host of daemons made of metal and rust. What sights are presented to his insane mind are perhaps best left unguessed, but he seems to slip from maniacal roaring clowning to slow methodical murder to even moments approaching lucidity. It is in those moments that he is most dangerous, for it seems that even now his eyes still tell tales, as his cries deriding the weakness of the flesh are often the last thing heard by the servants of the Emperor arrayed in front of him.

With that, Vow 5, and my ETL IV are done.

LET THE GALAXY BURN!!!!
Edited by Teetengee

So in Carrack's thread Life after ETL he asked what we are all doing after the ETL

I would love some suggestions as to which path to go down (even if I do end up ignoring all of them to do something else.....).

So here is what I am thinking.

I want to work on some more sculpting.
Things I most want to do right now (but don't necessarily want to do first)

Floating Great unclean one/nurgle daemonprince suspended by nurglings inflated by gasses from his rotting flesh (mostly intestines)

Khorne possessed jump infantry, including one crawling out of a loyalist marine.

Female bloodletters.

Chaos Eldar. Particularly the third eldobliterator and painting the second one.

Iron Warriors Warpsmith.

Finishing the land raider conversion that first got me onto this site.

Chaos Knight.

Rust daemons to go alongside marn up there.

More cultists.

Nonscultping based things

Finishing the Balrog Bloodthirster

Terrain

Rebasing to my new base scheme.

Learning how to highlight.

Learning hot to airbrush.

Continued playtesting and writing of my chaos codices. (this will be happening regardless I suppose)

I am of course open to other suggestions as well.

I started doing some work on scratchbuilding a pair of bunkers (we needed some for a campaign my friends and I are playing).
I did the original designs on a 3D modelling thing and then used that to make the measurements I needed.
I still need to do the sloping pieces and the gun blisters/doors though.

Then it will be time to chaos it up.

WIP Nurgle Herald

I am building this based off of my homebrew codices projects (see Signature for details)
So eventually it will be a herald with spell familiar and Eviscerator (and perhaps death's heads, I haven't decided yet).

I still want to run some tubes from the blade to various parts on the model to really bulk it up, and it will be going on a 32mm base and I think on some rubble to really make it stand out.

I will be making some similar plaguebearers in the future.

Yep, it's a dryad base. I drilled a small hole with an exacto knife in the belly of the little guy hanging in her rear limb and the chainsword is from the warp talons kit.

I think I might put some tree burls/burrs on it to add some more nurgly influence (as they are basically boils for trees).

The nurgle herald need's some advice on basing (and a better photo op, but that is less important right now).

Btw, tying a noose with floss is not the easiest thing I have ever done.

So, about that dark wood.

Primed photos of the Hangman's Daughter:

And pictures of a Plague Banner bearer wip. I haven't decided exactly where I want to smooth with some gs, but I probably will do a little bit of it.

For the latter, I would really like to hang something that might be used to coat the unit's weapons in stronger poison, or something dripping poison, from the other side of the banner. Any ideas would be great. Right now I am leaning toward a plague censer or some sort of hanging cauldrons. Maybe just something dripping toxin. Alternatively, toxic fruit to go with the tree theme might be good, but that might require a gs branch to go up the pole. Thoughts?

So, for that second fellow, I am thinking apples (classic treefruit leading to despair) hanging from a branch that snakes up the arm and standard. Has anyone tried gsing fruit before? If so, any tips? Or do the bits exist somewhere? Other thoughts??

EDIT: I can find bits for exotic fruit and carrots, but no apples yet. Does anyone know of any temptation themed kits that might have one or more?

I sculpted some stuff, it didn't work perfectly, but I think it got the idea across and will be just fine at a foot or greater distance. Plus I started work on the plagueridden with balesword, still need gapfilling there though. Other models too, but no pics of them yet.
