I am doing some tyranids for the Call to Arms, starting with Leviathan and some old OOP FW terrain, and then some more Leviathan models to bump units to max size.

Well, those nids never got done and it has been a while.

I have done some bits and pieces since and posted the very occassionally, all fails and no success on https://www.instagram.com/doktorvrakos/

But I really am too old for social media and miss the verboseness and tedium of my long winded wall of texts here.

However, my gaming mate has challenged me to, like, actually finish something.

A combination of factors have pretty much dictated what I am going to do:

  • I have an absurd amount of chaos bits across all systems going back decades, including OOP FW brass etch and FW doors
  • I have actually, nearly finished painting the Heroes S3 Plague Marines to play Kill Team
  • I did build and base coat, and convert, and part convert, quite a lot of Death Guard - as can be seen earlier in this thread of fails
  • With a few models built it was easy to have The Shambling Horde and the new Maggot Lords pulled together...apart from the rhino (see later)*
  • I caved and got the Poxwrought box just to get the Lord of Poxes (and max choice some units), and the Death Guard codex, and the World Eater box, and the World Eater codex...
  • I also got a silly amount of Kreig when they came out and even had a go at converting a field ordnance to look more WWI/Kreigy
  • I have alot of the old Forgeworld defence lines
  • I have always wanted to do a Badab War historical refight, and was thinking Astral Claws against Red Scorpions, but that would mean building lots of old marines that would have no other use
  • That also means a lot of old spare old space marine tanks, like rhinos, predators, and land raiders - but chaos can use those still
  • But they don't look very chaotic, and the chaos conversions sprues are...dated at best, but I have a vast bits box...inlcuding lots of maggoth bits from WFB/AoS, and need a Nurglified rhino for the new Combat Patrol, adn a very diseased low on sanity points mind
  • And Vraks was Kreig versus Death Guard Apsstles of Contagion and World Eaters (at points, amongst others) which would be an IA FW style historical refight
  • Wouldn't a Green Hell battle be interesting

Over the years I have also been used as a dumping ground for mates old stuff, usually in a parlous state, when they grow up and get out of the hobby (their words, not mine), and have some very beat up rhinos left from that (5), and two predators, and the sprues to make another two predators - so two for DG and two for WE? DG vehicles are supposed to look beaten up aren't they? And have horns, and boils, and tumours, and tentacles, and melded crew, and Nurgling infestations, and eyeballs, and gothic spike rails, and inscence globes, and flies, and split hulls, and bells, and...you get the idea (DG Nurglified basically).

And I really enjoyed when I did the defiler changes, and helbrute mashing, so doing some very Nurglified versions of those will be fun - so I got a new defiler and still have 5 old DV helbrutes and two sprue helbrutes - so that'll scratch my converting itch.

Then there is always the land raider...

This time around though it'll just be a picture when conversion complete, then primed, and then later on painted, and it'll be Death Guard first - and as for squads just when completed.

But the start, and image of unloved and desrted rhinos in need of Grandfather's Gifts:

*Edit: and apparently White Dwarf 512 will include another Death Guard Combat Patrol calld The Gloeming Blades led by Plague Surgeon Phlegmus Gloem so when the rest of that is known I'll work on them after the first two.

Relevant new information I gleaned literally just after posting.

Whilst planning bits for the rhino conversion, in regards to possible gribblies to attach, I was wondering how on earth I was going to track what and wasn't Afflicted as is going to be kind of important.

Then it occurred the various gribblies on small round bases would make ideal, thematic and very easily visually identified Affliction Tokens.

Anyway, just thought I'd share that for anyone else who has loads of spare gribblies and not much use for them as they could now be of practical in game use.
