Just thinking about the pushed back leg...going to bend the four toes back to give a bit more dynamism to the charging hell beastie??

Indeed, thinking backwards myself, although it's likely to hit the deck next stride ! Can't help but picture it as an Abnormal from Attack on Titan now, throwing itself everywhere, scrawling around the ground before finding it's feet again.

It isn't a pretty fighter, that's for sure.

@Bio

I'm fine for bodies, legs, heads, kit etc, but I'm struggling with arms. Going to be using WFB hands for a few, especially the cannonball holding ones - cut the front, replace with helmet, and you've the beginnings of a cowering Guardsman.

Maybe some pics before work tomorrow.

I'll have a look and see what I have that can help mate. Like I say won't be till the weekend.

Did you see the guy Nighthunters converted for me to use on my Titans base?

Just for some inspiration :)

Looks like he's on his knees going "it's only a dream, it's only a dream"

And so the fabrication continues:

I promised pictures of the fist/gatling combo, so here was my solution. Taking the skull-ended weapon, removing the 'muzzle' and using it as a collar for the fist:

Which I thought was rather clever, utilising the same connection so I could swap between a Kytan, or a Crusader should they release Chaotic rules for them. However, the more I look at it, the more it bothers me, as it makes the already bulky arm even more unwieldy, and adds a certain lop-sided look to it.

I've just had the thought of pulling the fingers off, and mounting them directly onto the collar to make a Contemptor-style fist, or my earlier idea of perhaps shortening the fist part somewhat. Any suggestions ?

As for the base, I've cobbled a few fellows together:

http://i61.tinypic.com/2jaxpxx.jpg

Cheeky fellow expressing his feelings towards the officers' orders.

Banged Up Billy hiding at the corner. I've added a scrap HB and a water container from the Bret sprues, with a few spare lasguns to prop up too.

Depending on what I do with the fist, this guy might get a reprieve !

So, yep, deliberation on the fist aside, it's screwed to the base now, and only needs a few details and tidying up really.

Hopefully I'll start work on the second this weekend. (before a MGSV hiatus !)

@Andvaar

Fisty indeed, but a tad too much.

@Bio

Yeah, but even the plate was cut down to fit it's current guise. If I find the time, I'm going to completely restart it, rescuing the fingers and trying the Contemptor idea - fingers onto the collar, and heavy flamer nozzles in the center.

Would solve the length issue, and tie into that tank on the upper arm too. Should've thought about it a bit more.

Well, my solution turned out like this:

Much better proportionally, and suits the arm compared to the actual fist. Slightly sad I couldn't use it as it's a great looking piece, but needs must. Close up:

Attached the fingers to the cuff, added the nozzle of a spare flamestorm cannon, and a few spikey bits for decoration. Took the long way to get here, but that's the issue of switching between the cannon and fist solved. As it stands:

Pretty much settling down, with the arms rectified on the Guardsmen, details and repairs to the chainsword finished, and just figuring out detailing on the lower shinguards. He's gonna be pwetty when painted, but as I'm waiting for CoC for that, I figured I'd make a start on the second:

Dog-face will be skulking over the wreckage, having recently destroyed it, with at least one Astartes squished underfoot. And yep, they'll be the Celestial Guard whipping boys as per usual.......

@Bio

Looking forward to seeing him too, but with sneaky, stealthy action dropping through the letterbox soon, it may be a while.

Certainly got the bits for a cheeky cockpit anyway, so it'll be worth it.

@Eldude

Using the commonly appearing Maulerfiend wrist guards on the upper legs, and perhaps some Ogre gut plates, but there isn't much suitable from the LoS. Is it Dreadclaw who used the big waist panels on the shins ? Just doesn't look right to me, and they'll probably be handed down to a pimped out Rhino.

Final details can wait until paint, and when I've split up what's left between the two.

Nice recovery with the fist option. A nice option to grab and roast the opposition.

And the base is looking boss oss (yes I went there) might I suggest, for expired marines - where possible - use the front part of the torso only, to mimic squished into the dirt death...

  • 4 weeks later...

Armoured bathtub ?

Well, after a month of MGS, flu, and general lethargy, I figured it was time to get back on the horse. A moderate vow for the CoC, and returning to Dogface, and the aforementioned bathtub.

Just had to have a pilot, and after going all A-10 in my mind, I conjoured up this:

http://i60.tinypic.com/67mp8o.jpg

Sentinel chair & pilot, usual Rhino displays, and I'll be adding lots of cabling from the Sentinel weapons too. Even after pillaging all that from the kit, I could still build an armoured AC equipped Sentinel, so it's definitely recommended for value. In situ here:

A bit lower/further back than some I've seen, but with more cables hanging from the underside of the canopy, I want that encased, claustrophobic feel to the cockpit, a real struggle to escape if need be. Hopefully it won't be too dark when painted, but at least I've drilled/hinged the door with wire. :happy.:   As for the lower half:

Kytan legs are annoying fiddly to secure, especially with one pair of hands ! A real test of patience, and a real struggle to position accurately, perched as they are. Ensuring the straight leg was tall enough was difficult, as it has to have certain angles to allow the armour plates to fit, not to mention extending the rear piston.

It means the bent leg is further forward than is ideal, and is a bit gangly looking naked. Should be okay bulked up, but I really didn't realise how tall it'd be. :ohmy.: Gonna be a big fella.....

And back to the pilot for your input:

http://i60.tinypic.com/nfg1w8.jpg

I'm crazy enough (and in love with the collar/epaulettes combo) to use the DV Champion upper torso, with a bit of heat to bend the coat around the seat. What I can't decide on is a head. A selection to choose from, along with the crazy concept of a skull, the pilot long-since deceased......  What would you pick ?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated !   Now, where's that battle cannon.......

Mate, I'm loving the work you're doing on the pilot. I had the same idea to use the sentinel pilot and cables but I couldn't get a way to mount the pilots seat. I really like the armoured tub you've come up with and will be borrowing heavily from that for my own Knights. Is that just thin card you've used?

Edit

I like the centre head.

Yeah, just typical card packaging (a Cadbury Choclate Roll WAS harmed in the making) like cereal boxes etc.

I flattened the triangular tops of those four mounting points where the "official but never mentioned" pilot should've gone, and there's nubs to mark the flat back position. Two minutes with a ruler, and just need some gubbins for the engine bay now.

My vote would go to the middle head but I think the hood might look a bit wierd with the collar. Maybe go with the 4th from the left? Might give him a creepy, tortured look, like he's imprisoned there and overpowered by the corrupted machine spirit. Or something:)
That's what I'm apprehensive over - how much is down to Dogface itself, or the pilot within ? How corrupted/possessed is it's status ? Fluff-fu engaged for some thinking tomorrow (as well as a better name). And veering towards the gasmask head ? It does look Mechanicus to a degree.......

Simply love the cockpit, excellent job on that! And kudos for feeling the need to add a cockpit in the first place!

However, when it comes to the choice of head, I'd like to point out that you've built a fairly clean and uncorrupted cockpit, so I think a head that's too possessed or tortured looking wouldn't quite work. I think this guy should be more the arrogant and proud type: While the machine may be fierce and quite hard to control, the pilot should look like he's up to the task. As for the actual head, the AdMech-style cultist head would be my pick of the litter, although none of the heads really click for me. How about using one of the partly-bare heads from the Mechanicus Vanguard/Ranger kit? Or a suitably interesting FW bare Marine head (FW because the proportions are better suited to the body you've chosen)? Or maybe that head from the barechested DV cultist with the creepy bionic eye and augmetic plugs? Anyway, the choice of head is rather crucial here, so take your time!

@geektom

Such mighty praise ! I'm but a mere humble modeller, although I'm beginning to get more adventurous once again.

@KS

Nice to see you about given RL. The cockpit is clean, for now, but I'm hoping for a jumbled mess ! Another vote for the mask,  then, and perhaps I'll have another trawl through my bits, as I know there's a few FW heads in there. I do indeed have the plug head, but I wouldn't class it as a favourable choice......

ED: Oooh, just remembered I have the Scion mask head, and trying a Bretonian kettle hat to replace the beret. Guess that's what I'll look at after work.
