Thanks KSci and Bjorn.

As to repositioning the arm, I did consider it Sagentus, but in my mind it's as if he's struck with Gorechild, and immediately pulled up the pistol for a kill shot, rather than sully the axe with unworthy blood.

Khorne might not care from whence the blood flows, but Khârn has always come across as a bit more picky with regards to whom he kills. I suppose the other issue is that he has a slight lean, but it hasn't really come across in the pic - bulking out his back so that the front plate covered his groin meant a lot of filling out space.

I'll leave this pic for now, that may show the subtle stance, but he's at a "quite happy with that" stage, and time to face my old nemesis.......paint.

Aw hell naw....

Wheew, this painting malarkey is difficult to get back into. Nevertheless, here's a (99% complete) Khârn.

And I'm not saying he's a big lad, but Numarines/Sigmarines aren't going to be an issue.....

Definitely happy with this old man's hip replacement.

Well, thanks for the praise guys. Finally got around to finishing my latest version of Jural:

http://i67.tinypic.com/2ym6ivo.jpg

Aaaand and would upload more, but tinypic is playing up and failing. Try again in the morning.

Think I possibly went overboard on the skulls (32 in all), but hey, Khorne is pleased. The chainsword/glaive especially has me in two minds that it's too OTT, but it needed something to break up the black.

Guess I'll get onto Huey, Dewey and Louie sitting on my floor, otherwise known as the Carniborous....

Thanks Vai, and there'll be a lot of Mklll to come........ I blame Augustus and a few HH fellas who at the time started the trend. Just adds a certain bulkiness and heft that lends itself to brutal WE.

And Kierdale ta. Wasn't entirely planned, more working with the Slaughterpriest hips as best I could, but there's a nice subtlety in his lean. Works better in person, honest !

Well, tinypic is still being awkward, and I've only stuck with it because it was the only host that played nicely with my PS3/PSP. But I have a shiny new tablet and it hadn't occured to me to try somewhere else, so here goes nothing.....

http://i.imgur.com/2bfyVkE.jpg

Quick rear shot of Jural, and his cloak that I imagine to be part of an old WE banner, still clinging to the past. Just as I do in my middle-aged years sigh.

http://i.imgur.com/71CgoNY.jpg

And a shot of the gang, including ickle Khârn-chan and my variations on Jural Kordash.

http://i.imgur.com/SwlDGT4.jpg

And the trio of torture. From top to bottom, the Ignis Diablo, Canis Corpus and Bellum Aper (Fire Bull, Dog Body/Dogsbody and War Pig) currently undergoing yet another review. The basics are done, but it's the details that are still proving troublesome - the extended leg armour choice of shields, the pelvic armour on Ignis, a pig-face and dual-wield options for Aper...... They'll be designed to fit the tenets of the old WE, kill (DB) with dual reapers and Ursus, maim (BA) with the big guns, and burn (ID) with a throng of daemons abound, but damn if I'm never quite happy with things.

I've dug out the heavy bits box again, so hopefully progress isn't far away.

Erm......

Skarr Bloodwrath as a base

Extra shoulder plate (and axe ?) from Wrathmongers, head too with a normal Bloodletter jaw and oblong back added

Flail is Skarr's original chopped up and altered

Centre chestplate is from Bloodcrushers box

Extra skulls on chain from CSM sprue

Think that was everything. And it doesn't seem that long ago !

So, thoughts on this idea:

"Aper" does translate directly as 'boar' rather than pig, and I've gone off the idea of a pig snout targeting sensor or something, basically two lenses housed in a curved nose piece. For this pic, I'm thinking tusks, and would add in the smaller fangs as a top row of teeth.

It seems a bit......orky ? Certainly looks brutal enough.......

Well, it's very cool to see you back in business! Khorne is pleased!

The latest version of Jural is looking excellent! A fantastic kitbash! The repurposed WE banner is a brilliant little touch, and I think the chain glaive is a perfect fit!

I am also really looking forward to seeing the trio of Knights take shape at long last -- any chance of closeups of the individual Knights? Oh, and on a slightly related note, I think it should probably be Corpus Canem and Aper Belli, shouldn't it? But then it's Imperial Gothic we are talking about, so yeah...

As for Aper's jaws, I really like the early mockup! Maybe it would be less orcish if you were to move the jaw back a bit, so it's not jutting out quite as much?

Anyway, really looking forward to your next update! :smile.:

EDIT: Screw my half-remembered Latin: Corpus Canis is entirely correct, after all. I stand by Aper Belli, though ;)

Thanks for the list :)

I agree with Kraut about the jaw, might look less orkish moving it back a bit or (just an idea) replace the teeth with something sharper, spikes maybe then it would be more of a mechanical jaw.

No problem Sagentus, and I've tried an Ogre hand with trap as teeth - even more orky. Just screamed Deathskull at me for some reason, and I don't do blue.

Cheers too KSci, and better pics will follow as the parts fall in place.....if I can find more Blutack and if they'll sit nicely for pics.

Got a couple more jaws mocked up staring at me, so I'll mull them over and see what grows on me. Probably surface again next weekend after next stint of work.

Let me just add that I actually really dig the organic nature of the teeth you've used so far, and the ones that are planned for the upper part of the facemask should work really well. Nothing says Daemon Engine like ornamentation that seems ambiguously organic ;)

Bellum Aper's tusked jaw looks fine. As for being "Orky," Khorne approves of his champions making trophies of enemy champions; you can easily claim the jaw is a trophy taken from an Ork Gargant, if not a gift (mutation) from the Blood God himself.

Well, after staring at Google Image search results for "boar face" and sticking with thon lower jaw, I think I've cracked it:

In situ:

http://i.imgur.com/qKgOAd6.jpg

It's definitely more boar than pig now, and revisiting the snout idea became essential, as it just identifies it so much more. Think everything I'd tried up to then had been too large, too cartoonish and just looked out of place, until I happened on that piece rummaging through the bits. Tusks just round it off, and again, finding the right scale was tricky, big enough to stand out, but not large enough to overwhelm an already busy section.

I'll dig the greenstuff out tomorrow, smooth off the chin, and bonus points for anyone who can identify the nose !

Brutal enough now I reckon ?

The jaw assembly is brilliant -- really love it! I have to say I'm not a big fan of the nose, though, as it seems a bit too plain when compared to the rest of the head. I'm also not sure you really need to be so - tehee - on the nose with the boar look ;)

Well, I did promise pics, but first, a lil' story......

Jural stood still, silent, arms folded against the bulk of his chest, surveying the scene before him, a canvas of red shards against pitch black. A pain irked him, tingling at first, through his shoulder, down to his fingers, before throbbing, not of old injury, nor of fresh illness, but of something far worse.....

Idleness.

He cursed the six weeks lost here. Six weeks that should be but a mere second to one born of the Siege of Terra. Mere moments to one subjected to the twisting time of the Maelstrom. Still, he cursed.

Through the large viewport, the bulk of his fleet hung in low orbit of the Ursal Sect's moon, hidden amongst the shadows of spidery orbital shipyards and arrays, a hubbub of shuttles and cargo vessels busy conveying fresh crews, new arms, and final repairs. Jural breathed a heavy sigh, knowing that this torture would finally end soon enough, soon enough to the field of battle, soon enough to procure payment for the Sect's services.

A dull knocking broke through Jural's contemplation, and peering down, a small cloaked serf was found to be at his heel, a scrawny arm beating against his armour.

"What ? What ails you to take arms against your Lord ?!" snapped Jural, a hint of sarcasm in his tone.

"Apologies Lord, forgive me, but you seemed absent to our calls. The Dominus requests a final audience."

Looking back across the room, a scattering of red hooded serfs buzzed around consoles, finalising checks and relaying orders, a fleet preparing to depart leading to such frenzied activity. Only Davok stood solemn amongst them, his pursuits more aligned with their Dark Mechanicus hosts, a mood hopefully improved upon the eve of battle. Mere hours, and they would be under way, heading to the Sect's chosen target, a world rich in minerals and souls, a target to be plundered to maintain their favour, to replenish resources expended on his fleet.

Jural scoffed, the mere absurdity of a once mighty Legion, now shattered and beholden to such terms. The folly of the Imperium itself, the very struggle that had consumed him through the aeons, now found mirrored in his own circumstances, relying on the technical prowess of old men and even older schemes.

"My Lord ? The Dominus awai......"

"Grant his request !" bellowed Jural, his thoughts rising ire. He had little time for the Mechanicus, unlike Davok, and desired haste in returning to the fray, to serve his true master, Khorne. As the serf scuttled away, recoiling from the sudden outburst, Jural turned once more to the viewport. A request ? An audience ? Jural chuckled to himself, a wry grin forming at his mouth's corner. Already, the Dominus knew all, command codes to the ship's controls, overrides to the void generators, scrap-code enough to cripple his fleet. He could force an audience at any time, but for begrudged formality.

A flash of light, and crackling arcs of expended energy illuminated the room, hailing the appearance of Dominus Heshek Tor, a hunched and limp frame given height by quietly whining grav-suspensors, a snickering scrape from his mechanical tail, writhing across the floor. A staff held loosely in one of many mechanical limbs was raised, striking the floor twice, followed by a raspy vox activation.

"Almost complete, almost time. To Illiarn, my Lord ?"

"As you suggested, Dominus." Jural's gaze remained on the viewport ahead, acknowledging the Dominus in voice alone.

"The Kytan, the engine Barbatos, it serves well ?"

"Well enough." Jural remained curt, short in reply. The Kytan had certainly been a boon, but he was loathe to admit such praise.

"More we offer, to bring haste to your success. More, in pursuit of Khorne's grace. The Carniborous."

Jural turned slowly to face Heshek, curiosity piqued, at the mention of such an ancient name.

"Speak then. Tell of what you offer."

Still with us ? Fluff was the major stumbling block, and the sole reason I was struggling with completing these Knights. To recap, I wanted them to be Khornate, but under the care of the D.Mechanicus, offered as part of a working relationship. After all, what does Khorne know about ship building, hull plating or bolter rounds.......

So I returned to the old school days, of "kill, maim, burn", and fitting in that original 'Dogface' head somehow, and looked for two more associated animals of the underworld/Hell etc. I even ended up on some page regarding old Welsh myths........

So I settled on a dog, a boar/pig and a bull, and went for a close-up kill, a maiming firepower, and a burny bull.

http://i.imgur.com/HH1JYGm.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/bgUeAZi.jpg

So, the Canis Corpus (or vice versa). Simplicity solved the stupid old horn decision, by thinking what a dog would have around his a neck - a bloody spikey collar ! So obvious when you think about it.

Anyway, dual chainswords and an Ursus pod, as I imagine it to be a Titan hunter, perhaps even hacking away at Warhound legs, with twin melta to help. Still debating on the pilot, but using the previous bathtub attempt, I'm thinking of a drained/dead fella, with the machine running on mental scrap code.

http://i.imgur.com/cg54qHu.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/uVy9QvE.jpg

So, the Bellum Aper, the Warpig. Took the majority of my original plan into this, with an absolute load of dakka to soften and maim from afar. The struggle was coming up with an animal/head, something to match the bulk of it's frame, and I eventually settled on this, paired up with the piggy/sloth misformed pilot. The third pic shows the additional battle cannons modded into a pair, so I can mix and match, and you can't go wrong with a quad mount on top.

As for the nose KSci, it needs that instant identity that only a snout can bring !

http://i.imgur.com/5B6FFsX.jpg

And finally, the unsteady nightmare that is the Ignis Diablo, the burny burny possessed one. Really couldn't get it to pose well, so this'll do. Figured it acts as a daemonic magnet, and I've a few friends with trumpets to announce it's presence, along with the Bloodcannon Herald to mount on top, riding shotgun.

Still need to work on a flamethrower or two for the sockets, but I've mislaid some pieces.

And that'll be that, as I really need to start planning how to paint, and in what order. A lot of the final assembly won't be permanent until certain areas are glued down, and I really need the blu-tack that's currently holding everything in place. As for paint, red, brass, and a scary attempt at the lava-base effect on those bottom greaves, something to tie into a background with the Ember Wolves I reckon.

Phew. Still a couple of days off, so I'm happy to take any requests for pics, or more detail on conversion stuff, but it feels like I'm over a sticking point with these now. Should be finished by......well.......Xmas ?

Man, I've been meaning to comment on these guys for ages, so here goes:

As for the nose KSci, it needs that instant identity that only a snout can bring !

Fair enough! The rest of the head assembly is excellent enough that I can certainly live with the piggy nose

The Knights are looking excellent so far, and I definitely appreciate the added spikiness and viciousness! That being said, I do - of course - have a nitpick or two for each of them, so if you'll indulge me:

Canis Corpus:

I actually really love this guy! The pose is excellent, and that huge Ursus Claw assembly on top of the carapace is a very cool touch!

The two things I am not quite sold on are the Bretonnian shields on the legs (they don't seem quite chaotic enough -- maybe chaos warrior/chaos knight shields might work better?!) and the head: While the concept for the head is excellent, and it's almost there, there's a strange gap between the stock helmet and the juggernaut nostrils -- maybe you could add some GS on top to make the lines of the head flow a bit better in that particular area, if that makes any sense?

Bellum Aper:

This is only a very minor concern, especially since you already mentioned the pose just being a mockup, but I think the pose of the arms really needs to be more open to complement the legs. The left arm, in particular, should be rotated outwards to make the pose more stable. Right now, the Knight is looking slightly unbalanced.

Ignis Diablo:

Once again, almost everything about this guy is absolutely great -- except for the horns on the facemask, which look kinda goofy. Have you considered turning them down? I think that would make the head look 100% better.

Those minor concerns notwithstanding, however, this is an excellent collection of sinister Khornate death machines. Really looking forward to seeing these completed!

Oh, and that fluff vignette was rather lovely as well! I especially liked the conversational peculiarities of the Dominus: He sounds like somebody who isn't really used to having conversations in a language that isn't scrapcode or Lingua Technica. And there was something subtly machinelike and alien about him that I really liked
