@Bjorn

Not EC I'm afraid, but a similar scheme. Originally it was the canon colour scheme for the Celestial Guard, but that seems to have changed, so I now regard it as a Celestial Sons scheme, a chapter self-made purely as whipping boys for my WE !

@KSci

Yeah, there's still fine tuning ahead. The snout issue on Canis I've pondered about previously, but it's just exacerbated by the blu-tac holding it in place. The shields have been 'spiked', but are a tad long, so I'm looking to imitate the shorter stud look of the chest plate. Bellum was posed in whatever would stay steady for a pic as usual, and as for the horns on Diablo, they're staying because I like a bit of fun, and it'll be a common motif for more 'friends' around it's frame.

Haven't made much progress, as it's been a typically dismal grey and rainy Scottish summer thus far, so no spraypainting as yet. Means I've started work on other bits though, namely Dark Mechanicus.

So, a quick pic of Dominus Heshek Tor, freed from a years languish in a polybag, finally taking form:

He'll be joined by a few friends soon.........

So, some friends for my Dark Mechanicus dominus.......evil laughter

A darling Flesh Molder, crafter of Daemon Engines, and possibly the most fun I've had with a model in ages ! Of course, he'd need a lil' helper too:

http://i.imgur.com/dt9yDAa.jpg

A "Harvester" I dub thee, a gribbly servitor that scrambles over corpses looking to extract bio material, perhaps even reclaiming geneseed.

Then I remembered my original plan for these - two killteams, loyal and traitor, with two leaders, three elites and five grunts apiece. So down the rabbithole I fell......

http://i.imgur.com/BgnLFWR.jpg

Corrupted Sicarians, now touted as "Scryers", the eyes and ears of a DM Forgeworld, implanting themselves in rival facilities, ships to be captured, or target worlds. Perhaps even going full-on Terminator or Lector and wearing skin masks over the faceplate.....ahem.

http://i.imgur.com/BmqkvjX.jpg

The corrupted Skitarii, which I'm still deciding what to arm them with, either the alt.Rifles from the box, or some DE toys leftover.

The Loyalists will be led by a standard Dominus (bar swapped pistol), and this simple Enginseer conversion:

http://i.imgur.com/i1zavoR.jpg

The Skitarii (who I see as ancient archeotech hunters, perhaps a bit more autonomous than your typical footslogger, just an excuse for the gunslinger !)

http://i.imgur.com/RSBT2NL.jpg

And finally, what I've termed "Shock Knights", former Ironstriders who've lost their steeds in battle, currently acting as a bodyguard team/penitence quest:

http://i.imgur.com/J897WDG.jpg

So, yeah, can you tell I've had a week off work ? :) Comments or ideas welcome !

It's been a while........

http://i.imgur.com/VBJ8dtm.jpg

So, ETL pledged, and time to revive this lot. Think the lack of motivation and no ETL to counter it lulled me into an extended break, but I've still been pottering about. Now, seeing as Armigers are the flavour around these parts, I'll share what I've been doing these past few weeks.

http://i.imgur.com/PG3hs1a.jpg

A stalker-style scout, scouring the path for his larger bretheren. Figured a "reaper" style autocannon would be ideal, and a chaos blinged chainsword to round off. More on these in a mo.

http://i.imgur.com/UghneTv.jpg

The muscle, little bit of extra shin armour, more focused on close range with the plasma, and the natty buzzsaw/angle grinder. Grumpier too, with a quick flip of the faceplate chin.

Filed off all the standard trim, mechanicus nubs etc, and replaced with more pointy chaos stuff, Khorne icons carved off Jugger legs, and a couple of chariot/Gorebeast pieces for the groins. Wasn't keen on the the little carapace weapons, and replaced them with a couple of missile pods, possibly from Land Speeder kits (Storm and DA ?) Think it all works so far.

http://i.imgur.com/HXmwL0v.jpg

The chainsword gained some pointy bits, just for decoration, but the reaper was a lot of fun. Cut away most of the melta, replacing it with magazines based from.......dreadnought hips ! One if those lightbulb moments, there's a bit of greenstuff to round out the back, and a cut-down shield from a Mechanicus Ironstrider.

http://i.imgur.com/1GK7g3i.jpg

Now the buzzsaw came about because I didn't know when to stop cutting the original sword, and by the time it started to coalesce, well, it was all I could do to salvage it ! The saw blade is actually the remains of a Mk1 Rhino floor hatch, the teeth from the original sword, and a couple of motordrives random dreadnought gubbins.

The plasma blastgun stems from the Redemptor, with some extra cables and chain, and a far simpler job !

So, we'll see how it goes for the ETL, and finally get some closure on the Carniboros.

As an extra, I haven't forgotten the Scars, and had to make one of these as soon as I saw the bikes:

http://i.imgur.com/tP8ZyZ3.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/L9lNP12.jpg

Had to be a Primaris due to the scale, which involved finding the right legs, the right hips, and then rebuilding his thighs completely in greenstuff, and I think it's worked okay. Still need to tie in the cloak bits with some more greenstuff, but it's still a learning process. As for the bit on the front, it's a cheeky Iron Halo with a dual purpose:

http://i.imgur.com/zQoLEDA.jpg

Gunsight too. ;)

Good to be back frater.

Ohh, not only is it great to see you posting again, but there's also the fact that between the Armigers built by you, JeffTibbetts and Biohazard, and I am never going to run out of ideas to "borrow" for my own models ;)

The Armigers are looking really cool so far! I especially love the kitbashed weapon arms! The buzzsaw seems too small, though -- although, given its somewhat troubled inception, I cannot think of a good solution to address that -- maybe lenghtening its corpus would still be an option...?!

It's also great to see those Renegade Knights of yours again! And the Scar is rather awesome as well! Excellent work all around! :)

Pic dump time : Armigers completed.

Sporting the season's Khornate colours, I present the Eyes of the Carniborous, the scouting element of the Traitor Knights. Well, the autocannon one certainly, looking lean but I envisage the plasma blastgun fellow as more of a close support variant, dealing with fortifications and close infantry support.

http://i.imgur.com/vXKFBjZ.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/AVUUKBf.jpg

Some various shots, with the replaced iconogrophy, the ruined dread (purple in my aforementioned Celestial Sons scheme, but equally passable as an Emperor's Children callback) and the greenstuffed hatch seals. I veered away from a cockpit unlike some peers, not having sufficent bits or the audacity to attempt carving a free hatch, but it seemed a fun fix. What's locked inside ? Who knows.......

http://i.imgur.com/BYjzwiU.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/d0hsJ9S.jpg

Similar shots for the heavier one, with more seals and thon AoS Khorne big fella's back providing a bit of texture for the base. I do have a corpse somewhere for the front of the base, but alas, lost for the mo. One thing I have attempted was the heat burn technique on the blast gun, with a wee close up:

http://i.imgur.com/8mYSy0k.jpg

Bit fiddly on a small area with all the wash, but it's given me a bit more confidence in attempting it on the big fellas. Speaking of which......

http://i.imgur.com/ekWOnNA.jpg

State of play this afternoon, in a typical grey, gloomy Scottish summer (was lovely yesterday too). Base coats down, probably working on the arms and initial washes today, and going to attempt the "lava base technique" on parts of the armour itself using Agrellan Earth technical stuff, to tie in a loose idea of an Ember Wolves assignment in the past, and the fire motif in general. And yes, that's a comedy fire demon pilot......

Thanks for looking !

Fantastic work on those Armigers, mate! After seeing how you've added a marauder shield on top of the reactor section, I think I'll have to steal the idea for my own renegade Armigers. Excellent work all around!

And look at those bases -- mate, I don't want to alarm you, but that does look dangerously close to actual basing, you know? ;)

Looking forward to the next update! :)

And so the first of the big lads is complete:

http://i.imgur.com/RlYx68s.jpg

And in the time honoured tradition of "Bring me closer....." I figured a nice Herald would suit the demonic theme, along with its pilot:

http://i.imgur.com/3WA8BDx.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/C6cdqhH.jpg

Kinda happy with the lava/ember effect, and probably should've gone with a deeper orange emphasis, but at least it didn't go horribly wrong. More demonic friends, and although I'd always planned them, the banner bearer was a "creative solution" to having a banner fill that gap, without the fiddily busywork in trying to mount it directly.

http://i.imgur.com/ZOJllCy.jpg

So, onwards to round out the group. Hopefully keep the momentum going !

Wow! That's one sweet knight.

I love the elongated flame cannon, very tempted to steal that. And the armor plate on the fist looks great, I knew there had to be a use for that particular bit, couldn't figure it out myself though. The lava patterns are another homerun.

The only think I'm not sold on is the color of the horns, they'd look more defined and pop out a bit more if they were bone or grey imho.

Fine work anyways, maybe I should go work on my own for a bit:)

I initially tried bone, but it stood out far too much, and didn't tie in with anything else. Figured aping the bloodletters' horns was best, as the reverse meant the clash between the black horn/red helm.

mind me asking what your red recipe is?

Khorne > Mephiston > Evil Sunz layered up to the raised areas (with perhaps a wee dollop of Wild Rider Orange mixed in at the end if need be), Riekland Fleshtone as a wash, and a second light wash of Agrax Earthshade just to dull it down/add the age.

I should probably be bolder, sponging and leaving more chipping, and I might try that for the next one, if I can influence the part of my brain that thinks it looks too messy. Could be it's battle damaged 'theme' as the embers were to the recent Knight though.....

I've really struggled lately to keep updates going, saving what free time I've had for painting through the ETL, so let's have a lil' catch up on what's what:

http://i.imgur.com/YgQ6TZW.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/eQMkOAA.jpg

Pics of the Bellum Aper and it's dual loadouts. Following on from the 'burn' of the Ignis Diablo above, this boyo fufils the 'maim', heavy firepower at range and loathe to close the distance, preferring to sit back and shell. Tried to further this idea into a sloth/lazy mentality, and so it's pilot subsequently became a rather large lump, barely able to fit inside:

http://i.imgur.com/Ybh24Il.jpg

And pic of the bolts/magnets combo to hold the weapons:

http://i.imgur.com/f036qHN.jpg

First time using magnets, and fairly straightforward. I also made up a rocket pod as an alternative for the carapace, but it got pushed to the side to finish off the last knight in time for the ETL:

http://i.imgur.com/aDTKVWp.jpg

The Canis Corpus, rounding off the 'kill' of 'kill, maim, burn'. Lots of fun this guy, and went for all the detail I could muster in the remaining 3 weeks of the contest.

http://i.imgur.com/04amNJp.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/wbimzaY.jpg

Well, while both KSci and Bio prefer 'actual' pilots, I prefer something a tad darker. So I eventually ended up with this poor soul, whose imprisionment and confinement leads to the anger and vengeance that fuels the CC. I reckon the chaos infected AI can run the basics of the knight fairly well, but needs that emotional context it cannot produce itself in order to provide a wee kick up the proverbial.

And yes I'm so chuffed with the displays, less so with his "nail varnish". :D (KSci joked, my poor attempt at showing chewed fingers, and the subsequent mouth sewing as a result).

His best feature though - the Ursus Pod:

http://i.imgur.com/JhO341N.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/GOgySli.jpg

HAD TO have this, harpooning enemies and dragging them towards his swords. Simple case of removing the missile tops, replacing them with the pointed spears of a Chaos Rhino front ram, and drilling/scraping out the exhausts. The rear part is a combination of Chaos Bike spokes, a cocktail stick, two WFB shields, and thread spools for a sewing machine, one of those lightbulb moments when I saw them. Add the small chain, and it works a treat......

http://i.imgur.com/urpydam.jpg

.....and yes, one of the harpoons actually works ! I had originally planned to mount it upon the pod itself, but physics determined the pod itself would just rip off, and so I mounted it to the rear plate, with some greenstuff reinforcement. Which ended up drooping somewhat when I left it overnight to cure, but it still looks okay.

So, that's the Carniborous wrapped up for now. Any further queries or pic requests are more than welcome.

I mulled over getting a Dominous on release, but with the weapons I wanted split between the two kits, it's off to the 'future ideas' part of my brain for now.

Lots more to get on with, with lots of Kill Team ideas in various polybags, including my stalled Dark Mechanicus team itself:

http://i.imgur.com/CTdM9sR.jpg

Struggled with these guys and a definitive colour scheme for ages, but they're still hanging around under my main painting are for now. Perhaps a chaos-flavour cog pattern in dark red or bone along the cloaks ? Hmmm.

With the extra sprues from Forgebane, and another set incoming with Killteam, I'm debating building a full Dark Mech auxiliary for my WE, mixing in Flagellent legs and more Dark Eldar weapons for that ramshackle look, and perhaps even heavier support with a few other kits. More thinking required for now......

In the meantime, with a bit of painting mojo back, I knocked this together yesterday:

http://i.imgur.com/gQQIld2.jpg

As soon as I saw the tank, I immediately saw that spare shield from the LoS kit on it, and I think it looks the part. Bit more work replacing the guidewheel detail (too Nurgle with the symbol look), moar skulls and chain, and fixing the shield into the supports properly. Think it'll go well with the Mk3 breachers I also have lined up.

Anyhoo, that's me for now, ETL vow complete, and any comments or suggestions welcome !

(And yes Ksci, that's sandy weathering powder hidden behind the tank, don't worry)

I am actually really excited to get a closer look at these guys, and I think they are brilliant! A working Ursus Claw Harpoon system on Canis Corpus? How awesome is that? Also, way to upstage my own harpoon engineering (as an aside, never fear: There'll be someone eventually who can explain to you why it would never work in real life -- trust me, it always happens with conversions like this ;) ).

As an overall build, Bellum Aper has to be my favourite, though: There's just something so cool about its squatting, reverse-jointed menace and the tusked faceplate -- speaking of which, maybe the tusks could do with one more bone highlight for that extra bit of pop?

As for the pilots, the fact that I've used more conventional pilots on my own Knights doesn't mean I cannot appreciate your versions -- in fact, I love what you've done with them! And I do remember discussing more out ther pilot concepts a while ago -- maybe even on this thread?! Anyway, fantastic work!

The way you are bringing that Nurgle tank over to Khorne is also really promising. It rather reminds me of one of the old Epic warmachines, but in the best possible way. Fantastic work all around! :)

Man those knights are awesome! And you've made a functional harpoon! Too damn cool. I really like the use of the khytan legs, I know I saw one of these a couple of years ago and it's very nice seeing them finished.

Great work on the cockpits too.

Mate! These are awesome! I love the muckle jaws on the Bellum Aper! The pose, the weapons everything just works on that guy! Love the cockpit details on them as well and extra rule of cool kudos on the working ursus claw! That’s brilliant! I’m actually in the process of reworking my Knights to fully flesh out my Knight Household.

Really looking forward to see where this tank goes. I loved the old Epic models as they were all released around the time I started in this hobby.
