Thanks Aquilanus!

Despite having quite a few half-finished models in the queue for my current army list, I've decided to paint an Imperial Knight for the ETL as faction Blood Angels need the points! I'll be painting him as Gerantius but I wanted to magnetise the model for flexibility and ease of transport.

I'm waiting for some 6mm magnets to arrive but meantime I've done all the prep. I filled the cavities of the lower arms with green stuff to create a secure base for the magnets:

I used plasticard tubing for the weapons instead of magnets:

For the torso I sawed the top off the dome on the pelvis section and sanded it down flat so I can glue a magnet on top. I glued a piece of plasticard on the inside of the upper body and will embed the corresponding magnet in green stuff underneath. Need to wait for the magnets before I finish that bit:

Made the base out of cork and filled the cavities in the feet so I can pin them:

Soon as the magnets are in he will be ready to paint!

Thanks socket!

My magnets arrived in time for the weekend so the Knight is ready for paint:

I put a tutorial up on my blog of how I went about the magnetisation. Link.

Since taking the pics I've primed all the bits so will crack on tomorrow...

Progress on Gerantius...

The gold needs layering up and then all the armour plates and weapons will get an oil wash (the skeleton has had one already). Then it'll just be details and base to go!

Don't tempt me! I already have a vague plan for some Dusk Raiders or Deathguard (want to paint something dirty white), but having seen the pics of HH Blood Angels I think my foray into 30k will be red ;)

It will be shaded though, don't you worry about that! Pics tomorrow hopefully...

Well if you are like me you'll fantasize about all of the other legions, maybe even buy some stuff... Then still go back to BA :tongue.:

My biggest test will be when we get our book and I'll be torn between BA and DA......

Sure – I used Daler Rowney acrylic inks on this one:

1) Vallejo Model Air Aluminium base

2) 2:1 mix of Daler Rowney FW ink Dark Green and Turquoise

3) Light shading with DR FW Marine Blue

Then a gloss coat, then I sprayed everything with AK Interactive Dark Brown enamel wash, waited a few minutes and rubbed it off with an old t-shirt.

  • 2 weeks later...

Forgot to post progress on Gerantius! He is done apart from his personal heraldry (transfers). For those who don't know, the Gerantius transfers were on a limited edition sheet which now goes for silly money on eBay (£100 +) – when it turns up at all!

So I ordered a custom set from Fallout Hobbies which will take a while to make its way across the pond.

But here are some pics of him without the decals...

Thanks both! Ideally I would have added the decals before the oil wash to weather them / blend them in but I needed to get it finished for the ETL so couldn't wait...

@ Eggroll, speaking of the ETL you should pledge for BA next year! P.S. Nice blog!

Thanks. I will - I thought about it this year but wasn't sure how much time I could dedicate to painting with other life commitments and new hobbies. Next year for sure...maybe I'll try and do my reaver then.
