Hey guys, been slowly painting up the Falchion, base colours done now. In more exciting news, I have finally decided on a colour scheme for my Solar Auxilia. 

 

Behold, the Promethean Cohort 'Royal Guard' to supplement my XVIII Legion forces.

 

I am digging the purple swagoo. The model's not finished but the base colours are there and I think they're working. 

 

What do you guys think? Colour scheme yay or nay?

I finally gave up/finished the Fire Raptor. 

As one of my first big models, it's not exactly great but neither is it a complete disaster. I'd happily field it on the table, but the next one shall be far superior! Yes!

Now to work on my already far more deloved Firedrakes. 

WIP shots, most basic layers and washes applied. Just need to touch up the gold and silver with some recess washing on the armour. I then need to redden up the shields, I will be applying a dull red to the raised section of the scale cloaks, hopefully providing a reddy-brown skin. I've always found it baffling how the scale cloaks of Salamanders are green-ish. Nocturne's a volcanic death world, why would they be green over a dark red/brown to blend in with Volcanic terrain?

I'm building a dedicated 2k Salamander list for play, which means I have acquired several shiny new things!

 

Starting with my Jetbike squadron, with choom!

 

I'll be working on them and the Firedrakes with an aim to finish by the weekend. Stay tuned after for more Glorious XVIII Legion goodies.

Me too They're just such nice models, despite my mediocre painting ability! Very happy with them.

I finally got time to paint today, having been sick and then with the GF over the weekend. Javelin is nearly ready! Just needs some bronze edges, more washes, red lenses on the crew and yet more washes!

Also digging how well this has turned out.

Next up is [redacted TROOP CHOICE, by the Order of the Sigillite] (I like surprises )

Caestus needs a lot of work, many gaps & such. Much green stuff, very corrective work. Yes.

It's refreshing to see Salamanders antigravs. The land speeder looks good.

And you're the first poster to say they love painting scimitar jetbikes. The only other comments I saw about them were along the lines of 'soul-crushing.'

That's strange, they were blissfully easy to stick together and painting them was easy and delightful. Guess I got lucky

I will now be going back to classic Sallies, however. My plan is to have my 2k list ready to play this Tuesday, so I need to get the Caestus, firedrakes, praetor and Mortis-dread ready to rock.

Here's the Praetor-wip, Lord Protector of Prometheus Ela'Shan, left behind with Nomus Rhy-tan but left to ward Prometheus.

Plus his Bodyguard, to go into a mighty Caestus and hopefully smash up some tricksy Word Bearers on Tuesday

So the Salamander Retribution force has been tragically delayed, due to perfectly time FLU ON MY DAMN WEEK OFF *grumbles*

 

Considering I was in such a productive way, I decided to shelve playing to paint up to a better standard. 

So without further ado, I present the start of my Tercio, of the newly formed 1^st Promethean Lifeguards. The idea behind them is after being assigned to Vulkan's primary Crusade Fleet for a good chunk of the Great Crusade. Their temperament and ability earns them Vulkan's favour and admiration. They were left behind when the Legion went to Istvaan, with the Lord Marshal being asked to help bolster the defences until the Legion's return. Unfortunately the Legion does not return, obviously. Unable to strike out on their own and with no real idea of what's going on, they sit tight. Eventually they get news that their homeworld has sided with the Warmaster. Exonerated of suspicion due to their excellent Crusade record, of which they spent the majority of the 200 years away from said homeworld and any potentially corrupting influence, they pledge themselves to the Eighteenth and become the Promethean Lifeguards from then on.

I've always liked purple, from Roman Praetorians to the fabulous purple chequered shirt I own. It's a regal and fitting colour for my Tercio, so they're going to be primarily metal armour and purple fatigues. 

 

Armour will be purple base with metal where it makes sense, with black dapple. I know it's not exactly proper camoflage, so I am still a bit undecided. I think it will still look hella cool, and after all the infantry are bright purple so it's hardly like they are going for sneaky sneak. 

Distinguishing marks I have decided on so far:

 

The Lord Marshals household guard will be much blacker, with the idea they are Lucifer Blacks assigned to him from Terra for his distinguished service. They will basically have black fatigues. 

 

(Most infantry will have black shoulder pads anyway, for colour contrast. Household guard will have glorious gold trimmings and shoulder pads ofc to befit their status as the elite of the Tercio)

 

Armour crew will have red shoulder pads (potentially a link to the fact their more into machines & mechanicum) 

 

Officers will get bronzey/gold or black helmets (a marking they took from the Eighteenth) 

 

Various white stripes or yellow markings (potentially for support officers/NCOs - Voxers, Vexillas etc) 

 

Future plans:

 

More Tercios! Obviously. I will be getting a couple (fml 20 models a time) more lasrifles, a couple volkite/flamer sections, aegis defence lines, Dracosians, rapiers and basilisks. Forgeworld for everything bar the aegis lines, of course. Yay new project. 

 

Salamanders are still ongoing, I am just so thoroughly enthused with a new army and colour scheme I can't help myself!

 

Plus those Vanquishers. Ngggh so sexy. 

Accepting arguments for/against getting a Stormhammer too.

Open Day has been and gone, and I return with glorious victory spoils!

 

I now have a full 2.5k Solar Auxilia army after updating with a Stormlord, quad guns, four Veletaris, a Dracosian, Malcador Infernus and a (Not pictured as WHW doesn't stock them in shop) a Voss Pattern lightning!

I just love that model and the pose you have on him. What parts was he made from?

He's the body of the Legion Praetor followed by the head, arms and shield of a Firedrake. Sadly I didn't have any better swords so I went for a Black Templar power sword from the upgrade sprue.  

 

I've had to rearrange my shelves again, really not sure where the super heavies are gonna go now. Literally running out of space! Till then, here's a shot of my Heresy armies! (mostly all WIP).

 

I grow weary of the Veletarii, they are such great models though. Doing anything the same 40 times doesn't hold my attention too well though :)

 

Think I will throw together something big tomorrow, mayhap the Dracosian or Malcador!
