Haha, yeah, it's about darn time I get this guy painted, right? Good thing he still fits the "modern" look, even if he's just a tiny fraction shorter than the newly released CSM.

Hey, better late than never I say.

And with the right base, you won't be able to tell. But from what I can see with my own, the DV Chosen are the same height as the New Chaos Marines, they just look shorter because they're more dynamic.

Cheers, guys! :)

@ Gederas: I would actually say that the new CSM are slightly longer of limb than the DV Chosen -- but you are correct, of course, in that just a bit of "plateau" basing should solve the problem rather beautifully ;)

@ Auggs: Cheers, buddy! Glad you like the "Not-Hamadrya", even moreso because it was really improvised from nothing but leftover bitz. My proper plan would have been to use one of those AoS ghosts with a Bloodletter head, but I didn't want to have to pick up a box of them, so I had to get creative ;)

Speaking of which, here's the finished conversion, all straightened out and ready for undercoating:

Now I did experiment with some shaved-down Bloodletter shoulders and arms, because I thought it might look cool to suggest the daemon only being half-formed, but it ended up looking like not much of anything at all. And just the head and spine makes it look malevolent and somewhat creepy -- like a grimdark version Kaa the snake ;)

Cheers, guys! :)

@ Leviathus: Seeing how this is a World Eater-esque take on Huron, he'll be painted in my (new) World Eaters recipe, i.e. red armour and bronze/brazen trim.

@ DeadFingers: Hah, you are right! I did even experiment with arms, but it just ended up looking silly (and less creepy).

@ Auggs: Cheers, buddy! :)

So here's the first part of my first vow, at least: The "Not-Hamadrya":

To support the impression that this is not just a standard Bloodletter (or rather, half of a standard Bloodletter), but rather something unwholesome and half-formed, I went for an even more limited palette than usual. At the same time, the daemonic spirit is glowing with an inner malevolence...

Next up will be counts-as Huron himself. Let me know what you think! :)

As much as I plan to run Huron in a Khornate warband myself... the dude is a psyker. Though could just go with the right power and say its like a slaughterpriest/apostle prayer then?

Diabolic Strength is simply a better Wraithful Entreaty (when just considering effect, and not the method)

Khorne worshiping Psykers(generally using blood sorcery) exist, they just can't ever obtain the Mark of Khorne. The Mark is a simple way to denote it rules-wise, but the lore is a lot more open in Chaos alignment(where Marks are supposed to be granted to the greatest of the gods' worshipers).

Cheers for the feedback, guys! :)

I have to admit that the whole psyker question didn't even occur to me, back when the model was first built: It was conceived as part of a challenge over at the Throne of Skulls forum to build distinctly khornate versions of existing (non-khornate) Chaos Space Marine characters, so my main goal was simply to build a model that both reads as a World Eater/follower of Khorne and is clearly recognisable as a take on Huron.

That being said, I agree with Platuan4th that a fluff explanation wouldn't be impossible, even moreso because the actual Huron is mostly a psyker "by proxy", as far as I am aware, courtesy of his pet. But, again, this didn't start as an attempt to try and include a psyker in a Khornate army.

The familiar is looking ace and it's great to see some more for the Hunt.

As for the Psyker issues I believe the powers are manifested by his pet not actually Huron so same works here it's the effect of the warp around the pet and not actual sorcery.

Just to add my own mustard, i have to say eventhough its not that lore friendly with a khornate sorcerer (even of its Huron) I really like what you did with the familiar, looks really good especially painted!

Cheers for the feedback, guys! :smile.:

I'd be tempted to explain away the psyker abilities as his familiar being a daemonic entity somehow capable of invoking the blessings of the Blood God, ala the Judgements of Khorne/Slaughterpriests.

He looks fantastic in any event, and makes me want to do something similar with Slaanesh versions of characters.

Ah didn't mean to stir the pot too much, hence offering a fluff workaround. Nice to see painting stuff! That red looks crisp on the new CSM so good to see it on Huron. Thoughts on having the daemon familiar trailing/dripping blood behind him a bit?

Cheers for the feedback, everyone! :)

Since I have a painting session scheduled up for tomorrow that should allow me to complete most of my first vow, I have allowed myself some light kitbashing today. It was fun to further explore the new CSM kits, something I have been meaning to do for a while.

First up is a Khornate Havoc -- I'll still need to work out a lot of kinks on this model, but here's the basic setup:

This model actually startef off as an evocation of Jes Goodwin's vintage concept for the "Teeth of Khorne" the World Eaters' dedicated heavy weapons specialists:

I realised how many elements of the new havocs strongly resembled this piece of art, so I tried to come up with something similar.

There's also this model, a Warpsmith-like character, presumably for my Iron Warriors Killteam:

As always, let me know what you think! :)

Cheers, Kythnos! You're also bang money regarding the hammer and head, at least for the most part:

  • the head is, indeed, a Kataphron head
  • the hammer is a Varanguard hammer, spliced together with a forearm and haft from the Chaos Lord on Manticore (since I needed a left hand holding a weapon for this conversion
  • the backpack uses a flamer arm from the Kataphron. The rest of the backpack was spliced together from Havoc backpack bitz, with the added remains of a Venomcrawler "face" for those extra lenses behind the head.

Oh ma gawd, the familiar is soooooooooooooo cute!!!!

He just needs a fitting name now though!

Oh and great work on that Havoc - I really hope these get flashed out once we get the World Eaters Codex ^.^
