What about those goofy cross shaped thingies you get with the vehicle sprues for mounting remote weapons like stormbolters??

It has the cross shape, an ankly looking bit, plus a big toe at the front. A couple of tiny squares of card possibly a blog of putty and done

These updates are coming thick and fast KS, nice work esp on the Doomwall and Dreaddy

Got to say, got a lot of love for the Fallen Angel too, permission to file away in my 'Copy Kraut' file ;)

KS

Where do you get your inspiration from? I mean it's like you see uses for bitz I couldn't even comprehend and you see different ways kits can work great work

It's called 'genius'!!! :biggrin.:

"Genius is a powerful word, and there is no reason to use it 'less your talking about the Kubrick KrautScientist, then there's really nothing to it. Everything I do is visionary." :P

All in all though KS, after plogging through your thread once more to catch up, you have impressed me yet again.

Guys, guys, please: Genius is indeed too big a word -- I cannot even see genius from where I am standing ;) That said, I appreciate your very kind words, of course, and I am feeling rather flattered, to be honest ;)

@ OSS: I didn't mean to cause offense, and am sorry if I did -- I only wanted to be helpful. To be fair, you didn't make my job any easier ;)

That suggestion regarding the chaos vehicle bitz was golden, however: I took a long hard look and found some very useful bitz there. The Chibi-Knight is progressing in leaps and bounds! Expect some new pictures soon (tomorrow, in fact, as soon as the light is good enough to take some decent photos).

Until then, feel free to let me know what you think or tell me I'm a genius! ;)

Allriiiiiiiiight Kraut! I'm so happy you felt the painting fire burning again - and am honoured that I have a small hand in sparking it to life again. Thanks for mentioning it. I know the FF kit is a bit of a female dog to paint, but hang on. You're doing an awesome job so far, and I'd love for you to finish your vow - expesially since the CoC and all deadline-related BnC events are primarily to inspire productivity (not that you're not without them) and definitely not to get discouraged.

How many termies left after the Fiend ('cuz you WILL finish him before the 15th - or the skinning pits await (Hey, despite my slight World Eating detour, I'm still a Night Lord at heart ))?

Here's Brother Garron, the Doomwall, completely painted and based. Enjoy!

[...]

As always, let me know what you think! :smile.:

I just saw the Doomwall in Greyall's thread. So I thought I comment in your thread:

There's always THAT guy, who hogs all the good stuff: Ancient armour, thunder hammer, lightning claw, combi-bolter (or are the last two in fact the talon of horus?) I wouldn't be surprised if Garron also had a dimensional key and a couple of scrolls of magnus in his possession.

How about you magnetize the thunder hammer and give him the option to take a daemon blade and call him Abaddon? He even has the topknot/plumage already.

More seriously though, you make the normally ugly-looking MK1 TDA look really cool.

I also really like the terminator with the Daemon Prince cuisses as pauldrons.

:censored: The post keeps breaking, when I try to edit it. Fixed, hopefully for the last time.

Edited by Quixus

Cheers, guys! :)

@ Augustus b'Raass: "Female dog" alright -- this model almost made me give up! But I will have it finished by the 15th, whatever happens. Just you watch this space ;) As for the Terminators, do you mean how many I still need to finish for the vow? Because the Forgefiend is actually my last model to be completed, afterwards I'll be free to do something productive with my life, like playing videogames, or what have you ;) That said, I do have what seems like a ton of unpainted Termies, but I'll need a good long vacation from painting red after this, so they'll have to stay that way for a while yet ;)

@ Quixus: Haha, he does make for a pretty convinving Abaddon stand in, doesn't he? In any case, the topknot is quite a bit less silly than dear old Abby's ;) There is a reason why Garron is kitted out like that, though: I'll have to hammer out his background in more detail, once this is all over. Cheers for the kind words, in any case!

Painting on the Forgefiend continues apace. Meanwhile, have a Chibi-Knight update:

As you can see, the basic construction has mostly been taken care of at this point, which means I can finally add some details to make him look really similar to his bigger incarnation. A few bitz and pieces are still missing, but he is already remarkably similar to his "big brother". The left foot might seem a bit clunky at first glance, but the good thing about it is that it is very obviously not a Marine foot, so it serves to distance the whole leg setup from its Marine roots. Oh, and one thing that is kinda hard to make out in the pictures: The Knight's right foot is resting atop a toppled pillar with an Astartes monument on top. The monument is an actual Epic Marine commander, kindly given to me by Drone21c -- and possibly the only true Epic model I'll ever known. So using it here will be a good way to put it to use, plus it will provide some scale to the whole model.

As always, let me know what you think! :)

Aha! Good man, finishing your vow and whatnot. :d I'm happy you caught my drift on the female dog, I don't want to be attached to another object by an incline plane wrapped helically around an axis... ;)

The mini titan is looking aces. - You know, I'd love to see a new shot of your entire army, like in the beginning of this thread.

Cheers, guys!

So, what else is new?

Call of Chaos Update:

Ladies and gents, here's Gorespite, Forgefiend in the service of the World Eaters' 4th assault company, fresh off the painting table:

gorespite-preliminary-1.jpg

gorespite-preliminary-5.jpg

I do realise of course that these pictures are hardly ideal, but seeing how it's basically the end of the world right now in Northwestern Jhermani, I think they will have to suffice for now.

In any case, though, this concludes my vow -- woohoo! I am actually pretty happy with myself, to be honest :smile.:

I'll update this thread with better pictures of the new model and my entire completed vow as soon as possible. Until then, let me know what you think! :smile.:

Edited by KrautScientist

Aw man, that FF looks the shizzle. And I am actually proud of and happy for you that you completed your vow, buddy! Excellent work throughout and not a drop in quality. :tu: I'm already looking forward to your next model.

And to the entire army shot. ;)

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words! I am really rather proud of myself -- and pretty relieved that this is over as well

Anyway, here are the new pictures I promised:

First up, the daemon engine Gorespite -- christened thus due to its unrelenting resistance to getting painted, by the way: I like it when a model's character becomes apparent even during its construction and painting

And my entire Call of Chaos vow, consisting of:

  • 1 custom Khârn the Betrayer
  • 1 Chaos Lord in Terminator armour with Thunder Hammer and Lightning Claw (Brother Garron the Doomwall)
  • 1 Chaos Dreadnought/Helbrute with Multimelta and Power Fis
  • 1 Forgefiend with twin Hades Autocannons (slightly converted)

That's a sweet additional 500 points or so for Khorne's Eternal Hunt! Yay! :smile.:

This was the first time I ever participated in an event like this, which makes me all the happier to actually have finished my vow! It didn't really look like I would for a while there, so thanks to all those who provided that extra spark of motivation by deed and through encouraging comments! You guys rock!

As for an updated picture of the whole army, I suppose it'll be quite some time before the weather allows me to set it all up outside and take some dapper new photos. Until then, I have this picture (taken this last December for the "We Are Legion!" Contest over at Le blog dé Kouzes) showing a pretty big part of the army to tide you over:

khornes-eternal-hunt-2014-02.jpg

It's not the entire army (it's missing the twenty odd "old" berzerkers from before my hobby hiatus during the 2000s and most of the additions from the Call of Chaos), but it's a fairly accurate depiction of Khorne's Eternal Hunt in its current incarnation.

As always, let me know what you think! :smile.:

You Sir have an amazing Army, love the conversion work you put into your models and how unique and individual they are! One of my Favs has to be Brother Garron and your Spawn models :)

Hmm, I don't want to sound too in love with myself, but I would have expected the big guy to draw a bit more feedback. Oh well...

Aaaanyway, here's an update I hope will warrant a comment or two: More work on the Chibi-Knight:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/1/13/678316-Chibi-Knight%20WIP%2019.JPG

With the basic construction out of the way, I was free to revisit several areas of the model in an attempt to make them as close to the big model as possible. Things got a bit out of hand, especially regarding the right arm, which is almost ridiculously similar, and I am pretty happy with the outcome! The only major detail missing at this point is the banner between the legs, since I will only add that after the model has been painted -- all else would make those legs very complicated to paint

And here's a comparison between the big version...

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/8/7/636310-Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Knight%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Harrowthorne%2C%20Imperial%20Knight.JPG

...and Chibi-version of the Knight:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/1/13/678315-Chibi-Knight%20WIP%2018.JPG

Oh, and it would be really rude of me not to tell you where the inspiration for this particular project came from: Fellow German hobbyist Paule has created some very cool kitbashes of all kinds of Epic scale walkers -- check them out here.

As always, let me know what you think! :smile.:

The baby-knight has certinally got the feel of the big daddy. What's that on his right foot though?

I think the Forge fiend looks great to, you couldn't tell his machine spirit didn't co-operate during painting. Still, a bitter, twisted spirit is good for the Eaters of Worlds.

Aw! Dude you know I love the Forgefiend - the tail is awesome and your paint job is stellar as always. It's just that I already said this over at the CoC forum.

I'm more impressed by the picture of your entire army now! What I miss is a REAL comparison between your knight and the chibi version. Put the chibi in a position the Knight's legs and make a pic of THAT! ;)

Cheers, guys! :)

@ The Hydra: The Knight has his right foot on a toppled pillar with a Space Marine statue at its top (this was a nice way of incorporating the single Epic model I own, plus it worked well with the position of the legs I chose).

@ Augustus b'Raass: Haha, yeah, will do. As it happens, both Knights are set up exactly like that right next to my desk, and it's looking pretty funny. Will take a picture once there's more light ;)

The FF is pretty boss, but it got overshadowed by the group shot right after it. :D People have short attention spans. ;)

But that chibi knight is, by far, the cutest (and possibly one of the very finest) world hobby events to come from the release of the Imp Knight kit. I've seen some jaw-dropping conversions--your own not least--but this little guy is just too cute! I would never have come up with that in a million years. The ONE gripe I have with it is the legs. The Knight's legs are just too different. But seriously. Cute.
