Cheers, guys! :)

@ Kriegsmacht: Yeah, I was lucky enough to pick up some of them as part of an ebay auction quite a while ago, and I think they still hold up rather well -- they would be a great fit for Iron Hands as well, come to think of it.

@ Torbenos: Cheers, man! Here's a short(ish) writeup about that red recipe. To quote myself:

I work over a black undercoat. For the base colour, I have been using the old GW Mechrite Red so far. Afterwards, the red areas get a generous wash with GW Devlan Mud (or Army Painter Strong Tone or GW Agrax Earthshade or whatever else you have), and then I add another thin layer of the (even older) GW Blood Red. While this recipe has always worked pretty well for me, it does have two problems: One, I still hate painting the red areas and am always happy once they are finished and two, it relies on colours that are no longer available.

So if I were to plan a new colour recipe for my army today, I would probably start with a red spraypaint (either Army Painter Dragon Red or Pure Red, or the new GW Khorne Red spray) and then work from there. I think I'd keep the wash, but I would have to find a new red for the top layer. Mephiston Red looks great and works well, although it doesn't have quite the orange-red hue the old Blood Red had. Evil Sunz Scarlet or Wild Rider Red may be worth a look, although I have yet to experiment with them myself.

So, to make a long story short, using the exact same colours as me won't help you, as you probably won't be able to get hold of them. The basic approach still stands, though: Get a solid red base colour (preferredly as a spray paint), then add a brown wash, then a final layer to add some pop to the whole thing. If I were you (and as soon as my last reserves of paint run out, I will be in the very same situation you are in, so yeah), I'd probably get the two Army Painter sprays as well as one pot each of Mephiston Red, Evil Sunz Scarlet and Wild Rider Red plus a pot of a brown wash of your choice and just paint some disposable test models until you find a hue you are happy with. There's something great and liberating about being at the beginning of a project, because you are still free to find a recipe that suits you without having to match the colour of the one-hundred models you already have. So just dive in!

@ JeffTibbetts: Haha, don't worry, mate: I am really happy with those Iron Warriors as well, and that's just the look I was going for, so it's all good. If anything, my World Eaters will profit from little side projects like this, because once I return to Khorne's Eternal Hunt, I will invariably try to incorporate the best parts of what I have learned.

@ Biohazard: Wait, buddy, so you're telling me you're going to build two Knights before painting the Gorehound? Nuts!
Technically yes but at my last Apoc game the Gorehound was knocked off a table so suffered catastrophic damage that I need to fix. I've rebuilt it so many times I'm actually a little sick of it. I'm hoping the Knights will reignite my passion for walkers and spur me on to fix it and paint it.

Aw, mate, that's tough! How many times has that Gorehound been knocked around now? Must be some kind of Tzeentchian plot...

The Knight kit is wonderful, though, and you will have a blast building it! As for the painting side of things, I am about to find out whether that'll be fun as well ;)

Say, buddy, if I may be so shameless: If you've got two Knights coming, are both of them the new, more comprehensive kit? And if so, would you be willing to trade with me for one of those optional rocket launchers?

Gorehound been down far too many times. I have plans for a new base though and it will be completely solid. As for the Knight launcher I have plans for that sorry buddy. Only one of the knights is new kit and the other is the existing one.

@ Biohazard: Oh well, I had to ask ;) Looking forward to seeing you tackle those Knights, though! While they be chaotic or loyalist?

@ Eberious: Cheers, mate! Coming from you, that's high praise indeed!

As it happens, I cannot seem to stop converting new Iron Warriors at the moment. The beautiful thing about this being a small Killteam, though, is that I can use that to explore all of the Iron Warriors archetypes I like. Here are the next two team members:

On the right is the Apothecary you already know, although I did some slight cleanups on this guy. On the left is a new model, because you cannot have an Iron Warriors Killteam without a massive Breacher guy, can you? ;)

As always, let me know what you think! :)

Thanks for the kind words, guys!

@ Auggie: Haha, those legs are from the DV Chosen Commissar Molotov let me have, and it was a rather big pile. Having worked with several sets of those models, I am now courageous (or foolhardy) enough to rigorously carve them up. They do look so good with those Iron Warriors torsos, though, don't they? ;)

Cheers, guys! I am glad you like them as much as I do ;)

@ Kriegsmacht: Ah, no: That head came from the WFB chaos chariot crew, and I just added an antenna and an optic array cut from some vanilla Space Marine helmets.

Hmm, I think I have one more model mostly conceptualised at this point: the heavy weapons guy. I plan on arming him with a rocket launcher for now. And after that, maybe, just maybe, there'll be a battle automaton to round out the project (seeing how I have preordered the Kastelan kit, and I would really like to paint one of them in IW colours -- we'll see how that pans out...). And maybe a support cultist or two? As you see, I really have to restrain myself, lest this become an entire new army project ;)

As a thought, I've been looking at the blightkings for a while and thinking of iron warriors. A tiltshield here, a bloody great gun there and maybe a rebreather attached to one of the more brutal helmets. The only difficulty I can forsee are suitable no nonsense legs.

Of course, there's a nice idea with chaos forces how there can be smaller warbands grouping together to achieve greater goals. The idea that there might be a small force of Iron Warriors alongside the Eternal Hunt is an evocative one. So this is less a diversion as it is an extension of your force!

Glad to see you're putting those Dark Vengeance legs to some good use!

@ Eberious: Cheers, mate! Coming from you, that's high praise indeed!

Stop, you'll explode my head. :tongue.:  there'll be ego everywhere.

Those DV chosen are a great source for bits. Cheap enough off ebay and with a little time spent cutting out the torso, legs, shoulder pads etc are well worth it.

Cheers, guys! :)

@ Lord Commander Scrymgeor: Hmmm, I will admit I don't really see it: The Blightkings seem a little too bloated and diseased for me. That said, it should be possible to clean up the more heavily armoured bodies. Tell you what, why not go for it and convince me? ;)

@ Mol: Thanks again for your generosity! Did you get my e-mail? As for connecting these guys to my World Eaters, it's possible (and I have deliberately created a plot thread or two to allow for it, but it's definitely not a priority. That said, it has always been really easy to throw disparate warbands together, hasn't it? In a way, chaos players have had unbound armies for ages ;)

So anyway, here's another small update on the Killteam:

The Champion is now completed:

So here are the first three finished members of the Killteam:

And the entire project so far:

In keeping with my current fascination with the 4th legion, I also bought the "Storm of Iron" ebook yesterday ;)

As always, let me know what you think! :)

Thanks a lot, guys! :smile.:

@ Auggie: Haha, no way, mate: Go finish those World Eaters first

@ Red Skullz: Nah, I think I'm pretty safe for now: A slightly rounded out collection of Iron Warriors with a few more models? Very likely. A full-fledged army? Much less so.
