Bloody hell Kraut! Well done on that war engine. As a thought, why not use the rules for the iron warriors bodyguard enclave? Would that not be more fitting? They look to be the same size as the warbot.

Also in terms of el beastie...don't fail on this one...lest khorne turn ye to a bloodbeast

Phenomenal work on the Contemptor (Screw counts-as. This is a Chaos Contemptor) !!1!! You certainly out/did yourself in terms of speed. Also in terms of conversion skills, but that´s no surprise given the contents of this inspired thread. You have more than made up for your failure last year with that brilliant finish, and gained favour with Khorne for revowing immediately! :tu:

What he said...including the !!1!!

wow that was sudden. Looking back at the side by side I recon it would be ace if this was the same contemptor as your 30k version evolved over the millennium of service to Khorne. Not sure if you named him?

Great finish to the first Vow and addition to the 4th, he'll definitely stand out in the annual company photo.

Now to drag my sorry arse out of the loom I'm in and get sculpting, bloody shredded daemon flesh won't sculpt it's self (or if it starts to I'm leaving my Knight in Korea.... they can have the part built possessed toy).

Thanks a lot for the positive feedback, guys! I am really happy to have finished my vow and broken last year's curse, so to speak! I am also rather surprised at myself for the speedy way I've painted that Counts As Contemptor -- maybe we need more political crises like this to hurry my painting along? Then again, maybe not :sad.:

@ Andvarr A: You are completely correct in that the model is about the same size as those Iron Circle robots and does even resemble them a fair bit -- in fact, I suggested to InsanePsychopath that he could actually use his Iron Circle models as Kastelan Robots in his Dark Mech army in a pinch

@ Augs: Cheers, buddy! That is very nice of you to say! :smile.:

@ Lord Velpe: Well spotted, sir: That is indeed the Necrosphinx head! I merely used some GS to fill in a small slot on the forehead (and added a Khornate symbol while I was at it  ).

@  Mechanist: Hmm, I am actually seeing this as a different "individual" from my 30k Contemptor, mostly because I have this half-formed idea in the back of my head that the Contemptor used to be the 4th's oldest living member who feel during the late Heresy (possibly at the Battle of Terra). The Kastelan conversion, on the other hand, represents some kind of (AdMech or Legio Cybernetica) battle automaton induced into Khorne's Eternal Hunt through Huntmaster Deracin's ingenuity.

Anyway, the almighty rain has finally let up a bit, allowing me to take some slightly better photos of the counts as Contemptor, so here's another look at him:

I am still looking for a suitable name for this guy, by the way, so please feel free to let me hear your ideas! I'll be needing both the pattern designation for the machine as well as the name of this particular model, so I'd love to hear your suggestions! Please refrain from going Age of Sigmar levels of cheesy on me, though

Here's another photo of my first vinished vow:

That's a cool 500 points for Khorne's Eternal Hunt :smile.:

But I also have something new to show you: It seems Khorne is indeed pleased with my recent completion, as I have been making some massive progress with that bestial Daemon Prince. Take a look at him:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/6/26/809616-Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Daemon%20Prince%2C%20Daemons%2C%20Khorne.JPG

Once again, Duncan Rhode's video series about how to paint the Bloodthirster has been an invaluable asset to me, as I've used the exact same recipe on the Daemon Prince's skin (just like on my Skulltaker earlier), and it has been a blast to paint the skin! The oily metal emerging from the arms and legs, though? Not so much -- I am sure happy to be finished with that part!

I've also given some extra care to the mouth area, due to the fact that this part will be much harder to reach once the ears/horns have been glued to the head:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/6/26/809617-Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Daemon%20Prince%2C%20Daemons%2C%20Khorne.JPG

As always, let me know what you think! :smile.:

I hadn't noticed the Khorne symbol on the foot of the model! That's a really nice touch.

As for names...Hmm. I suggest Foebane pattern Contemptor/Battle Automata (sorry, forgotten which he is), and as for the name of the model itself...Gol-Rak? He'll need a "title" though. Perhaps "the Indomitable"?

Sorry no good at names but I can tell you their is precedent in the Horus heresy novels that Battle automata could grow beyond their basic programmingand begin to reconise the legions,  Incarnadine fought alongside the Word Bearers and began to show odd signs around them.

http://http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Imperial_Robots

Something where Huntmaster Deracin 'freed' the machine from it slave master mechanics, recognising its fiery spirit and offended that the mechanicum kept wiping its systems after each battle instead of letting it grow to its full potential.

@ Krautscientist: Yeah I bought the whole kit, to probably use the head on a dread.

Later I found the heads on a bitz- selling site.

Now I don`t know ifI should just buy the heads again and build the whole thing,

(as the Necrosphinx) because I think that model looks gorgeous.

Edited by LordVelype

Thanks a lot, guys, especially regarding the name suggestions -- there's already a lot to like about the ideas so far. Keep 'em coming! ;)

@ Mechanist: Yeah, Incarnadine was definitely on my mind when I thought about the whole battle automata angle -- I suppose this guy is what Incarnadine might have become some millennia later, if the Custodes hadn't totally shredded it ;)

@ malika666: Yes, that is one of Perturabo's guns. I received it as part of a bitz drops, and though it felt frivolous to use it on the model for maybe half a minute, it did solve two problems at once (adding some bulk to that hand and wrist and finding a way to feature an integrated weapon in spite of the hammer), so I decided to go for it.

@ Lord Velpe: Strangely enough, it was the opposite for me: I could really have used that head back when I built my converted Dreadknight, but when I finally got my hands on one, that model had already been finished. Speaking of Dreadknights, keep in mind that the Necrosphinx upper body would also work really well for a Dreadknight and/or Soulgrinder conversion -- just sayin'...

Beautiful work, as always, Kraut. I, as Squigsquasher, only now notice the khornate symbol on the sole of his foot. Wow.

Also: Perturabo's wristcannon. People send you some high value bits!!

Cheers, guys! :smile.:

Indeed, some do

So anyway, I spent some more hours on the Daemon Prince yesterday, and I hope the fact that almost nobody has commented on the model yet doesn't bode ill for its quality... In any case, I am surprised that painting this big lump of plastic has been such a blast so far. Here he is:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/6/27/809950-Conversion%2C%20Daemon%20Prince%2C%20Daemonkin%2C%20Daemons%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Khorne%27s%20Eternal%20Hunt.JPG

By far the trickiest question has been to figure out what to do with the armour plates: The bronze trim was a no-brainer, but I didn't want to go for predominantly black armour in order to avoid the Black Legion look. I also tried to paint them red (my old red recupe, even), but the result just lacked contrast when compared to the skin. And then I realised that all bronze armour plates might end up looking very Khornate: Now I have this image in the back of my head of the red parts of the armour turning into blood and running off during the Daemn Prince's ascension, or boiling away as the daemonic brass underneath becomes visible. And in any case, since this guy is basically a just for fun project, I might as well try some new stuff, right?

Here's a closer look at the face, a part of the model I am really happy with:

He looks great, Kraut. Every time I see pics of that mini, a smile creeps on my face: it's such a crazy conversion! He looks like you just went for it. The Gryphon head is truly apt for this kind of conversion.

I know you took the skin recipe from somewhere, but I can't remember where. Would you be willing to post a linky to the tutorial? It looks beautiful.

Here he's like "talk to the hand!"

Edited by Augustus b'Raass

Haha, yeah, exactly right: I just had that manticore and the Maulerfiend limbs, and so I thought: "Why the heck not?" Maybe my favourite part about the model is how it's completely made from leftovers.

The skin recipe was taken from the first part of Duncan Rhodes' video series about painting the plastic Bloodthirster, and I cannot recommend that recipe highly enough: It's a lot of fun and produces outstanding results in a very short amount of time. And what's really cool is how it works on smaller models as well!

Sorry for not commenting, you normally get enough to keep you ticking over.

I am really digging the paint job on the head, the tongue looks grossly real. Overall not a fan of the model, just doesn't quite come together somehow for me. But the important thing is the bit you said:

I am surprised that painting this big lump of plastic has been such a blast so far.

I for one am loving the Daemon Prince. I like how bestial he looks. The face especially is brilliant.

One thing you could do for the armour, if you felt like it, is redo the inner armour with silver and go over it with a clear red (Tamiya clear red, Forge World Angron Red or whatever) for a sort of lacquered metal look. That said I think the brass armour looks great as is.

Thanks, guys! :)

@ Thousand Sons: I can see how the model can be a bit of an acquired taste, as there is a misshapen, overmuscled look to the whole thing. Let me just clarify though that his was very much an intended effect: The idea for this model was to show how a World Eater, at the height of his madness and bloodlust, maybe wouldn't be transformed into a darkly angelic figure, but into a feral daemonic beast. The idea grew from the scene in Betrayer where Angron ascends to daemonhood (and you get the idea that he becomes an even bigger monster during the process) and a throwaway line from Codex Chaos Space Marines where it's stated that to become a Daemon Prince effectively means eternal servitude, and not even death offers an escape any longer. Hence the bestial look of the model.

@ Squigsquasher: I did think about using silver trim for a while, before eventuall deciding against it, but you are on to something with the Clear Red, albeit not quite in the way you mentioned. Anyway, here's another update on the model, now with the final missing parts, the shoulder pads:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/6/27/809995-Conversion%2C%20Daemon%20Prince%2C%20Daemonkin%2C%20Daemons%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Khorne%27s%20Eternal%20Hunt.JPG

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/6/27/809996-Conversion%2C%20Daemon%20Prince%2C%20Daemonkin%2C%20Daemons%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Khorne%27s%20Eternal%20Hunt.JPG

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/6/27/809997-Conversion%2C%20Daemon%20Prince%2C%20Daemonkin%2C%20Daemons%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Khorne%27s%20Eternal%20Hunt.JPG

Not a huge addition, these, but I wanted some visual elements to keep hinting at the Daemon Prince's Astartes roots, in spite of his animalistic look, hence the shoulder pads, the remains of the Astartes backpack on the shoulders and the sockets appearing on the Daemon Prince's body where he used to be connected to his power armour. As you can see, I painted the patterns etched into the shoulder pads with Tamiya Clear Red -- I didn't want to risk a silly looking OSL effect here, and the blood seemed like a nice fit ;)

In fact, there are even more hints as to his origins, such as the Triumph Rope scar, a remnant of his life as a World Eater:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/6/27/810000-Conversion%2C%20Daemon%20Prince%2C%20Daemonkin%2C%20Daemons%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Khorne%27s%20Eternal%20Hunt.JPG

And the following picture not only shows you the augmetic ports, but also chains dangling from the Daemon's mane of hair -- his Butcher's Nails implants, transfigured into the shackles they always were...

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/6/27/809998-Conversion%2C%20Daemon%20Prince%2C%20Daemonkin%2C%20Daemons%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Khorne%27s%20Eternal%20Hunt.JPG

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/6/27/810003-Conversion%2C%20Daemon%20Prince%2C%20Daemonkin%2C%20Daemons%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Khorne%27s%20Eternal%20Hunt.JPG

Here's another look at the face, because, frank,y I am just super-happy with that part ;)

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/6/27/810002-Conversion%2C%20Daemon%20Prince%2C%20Daemonkin%2C%20Daemons%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Khorne%27s%20Eternal%20Hunt.JPG

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/6/27/810001-Conversion%2C%20Daemon%20Prince%2C%20Daemonkin%2C%20Daemons%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Khorne%27s%20Eternal%20Hunt.JPG

And finally, a picture demonstrating how the Daemon Prince and my Skulltaker conversion do indeed make use of the exact same skin recipe:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/6/27/809999-Conversion%2C%20Daemon%20Prince%2C%20Daemonkin%2C%20Daemons%2C%20Khorne%2C%20Khorne%27s%20Eternal%20Hunt.JPG

So the model's basically finished and only missing its base now. And this has been quite a blast, to be honest :)

As always, let me know what you think! :)

I like the pose of the prince, but I do feel that the outstretched hand needs to be interacting with something, resting on a bolder.. part of a tank or something.

As for the Armour, I think you have the basics down.. but I would ponder some Black washes, and then some turquoise/light blue highlights for a weathered effect..

EDIT: Having seen your last update, I second the possible weathering on the Armour... not sure about the washes now.
