Storm of Iron! in Miniature Form

Gday all........

 

After lurking on this forum site for over 5 months now and being inspired by
all things in power armour I have decided to build the one army I have always
wanted to do. IRON WARRIORS!!!!! After reading as much iron warrior literature
as I could get my hands on I have decided to recreate the characters and army
from the Novel Storm of Iron by Graham McNeill. Of course I will be creating my
renditions of Forrix, Honsou and Kroeger.....

 

I have always liked the Iron warriors because they are the best siege
experts in the galaxy and they are the least Mutated/possessed/daemonic Chaos
legion out there in my opinions (Can’t say much for the alpha legion or the
Night Lords). With my friends both collecting a thousand sons and Khorne army I
finally decided to do Iron warriors. I also have a supreme hatred for Imperial Fists. I am a Painter/modeler so I try to get Best Painted/Players choice at tournaments so obviously everyone flocks to a well painted (GLORY CLEANED) Yellow space marine army. There are my nemesis......

 

As the 6^th ed Codex came out I was filled with dread with seeing
Dinobots emerge as well as flying dragons (Our as my mates call them Kaka http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPnbrcwNb60)
so I have decided to use the Space Marine Iron Hands rules for my army atm
until the “rumoured” Iron warrior supplement emerges from the warp.

 

I’m still working out the battle damage effects and weathering atm but this
is what I have finished so far........

For this marine I tried a sponge battle damage technique. Looks ok but im not sure if I should go with this or the original 'painted on here and there' damage for the whole army.

Using the rhino top door on the dread claw is a smart idea. Nice work.

I think the weathering went a bit too far, but the paint job overall looks superb. Excited to see where this goes!

Looking good mate, the pics don't really show the battle damage very well unfortunately, but the scheme itself looks good, and I love the hazards on the guns.

 

Also the dreadclaw door is a stroke of genius!

Just a comment on teh yellows, would base coat this with a nice strong fleshtone  and then wash with brown/ orange..  However the models look nicely done, definitely tell a nice narrative..

Wow so many mixed feelings here. Not sure what take of that.

@Hemal. Not sure what yellows you are talking about?

 

Well Ive done a bit more work on the dread claw. Ive finished the base and cut the fins to make a more claw look. I'm just waiting for some more plasticard to arrive so I can start converting the doors and fins. Then hopefully assembled and undercoated by the end of the weekend. Holidays start this Thursday so hopefully I will have finished converting by the end of Thursday.

I'm going for the "in the midst of battle" look as it makes space marines look more real and less glory cleaned. Will hopefully finish up a few more guys soon to finish a squad.

was referring to the bolters etc. Bascially tyhe hazard stripes.  They look a little green tinged ratehr than a warmer or cleaner yellow.

Also I have now coated some models in matt varnish, which aloud me to use some of GW new Blood for the Blood god paint.
