Pre-H Iron Hands for Adepticon Massacre Event

That Basilisk is from a mini-series on White Dwarf articles focused on Christian Byrne building an Iron Warriors tournament army. I think the issue numbers were 294. 295, and 296. Regrettably I tossed most of my White Dwarf back issues the last time I moved.

Thanks for your comments - just curious on one question -  I've read several online sources online to stated that they didn't care for the Magnos model and that's fine, I don't begrudge anyone one their tastes, I'm just not sure why that is.  I find that the model is a good representation of the John Blanche notion of grotesquely augmented leadership among the Ad Mech.  The idea that function supersedes  form resulting in amorphous designs, etc. etc.

Do you think they took the grotesque angle too far in this case?

Thanks again - OMG.

I just find the design of GW's cyborgs ugly, be they mechanicum or Iron Hands. I don't really have a reason for that. In contrast, I like how the Thallax and Castellax look.

Here's the Legion Praetor.  I realize that he's rather understated for a 40K HQ but I imagine he'd be a rather understated fellow.  Unless you made him angry and then the typical IH ire would change all that.

Here's some additional WIP shots.  The Magos is 90% or so complete.  I dropped a magnet in the weapon housing jutting off his right hip (or where about his right hip/thigh might still be.  So need to finish the weapons & there's a cyberskull bit also I haven't added yet.

These pics aren't the greatest but they'll serve for the time being.  I'll take better ones when these models are finished.

Here's also where I'm at with the last of the infantry.  I think the use of the Valthex body works well to depict a model who just got unplugged from a tank.

Looks great. I'm a huge fan of Blanche's artwork, so the Magos gets a big thumbs up from me.

You'll have to let us know how you AdMech forces do in-game. I'm definitely curious.

I've played 2 games now with the LC allies and they've been solid performers in both.  I'm a general fan of the Conversion Beamer & the Magos is a solid platform to carry one.  Given the right vantage, pitching a S10 AP1 3" blasts down table is never a bad thing.  I played a game yesterday where it took out a Landraider full of DG Manreaping terminators and thereby broke their primary thrust down table.  That was a bit lucky but luck comes easier when you've got the numbers behind you.  In that game he also got to shoot every turn from far enough back that he didn't draw any fire himself - yet another bonus for him.

In the earlier game I did get enemy models up into my lines where instead of shooting he used Cyberthugery to bolster the Castallax.  That thing is already a beast and I've read reviews that have stated that it's not worth the points to put power blades on them.  I disagree.  If you're going up against terminators you don't want to reduce your attacks to get into the AP2 zone.  The Magos can grant it D3 extra attacks on top of Rage attacks, etc.  It's Hammer of Wrath attack is already concussive So there's a chance that you'll push your opponent's initiative down to 1 and then carve them up before you get any attacks back.  So the Magos + Castallx combo has real synergies.

I'm still working with how to best use the Tech-thralls.  I've been using them as a speedbump to slow the enemy's advance but even after going to ground they don't have the staying power.  In missions where there are backfield objectives to hold they have a no-brainer role but they aren't fulfilling anything beyond that.  In my game vs.the Deathguard player they were killed to the man in a single turn by a 5-man, Volkite Culverin HS squad.  That is the perfect gun to kill those guys and my cover saves were poor but still, they would have been mopped up on turn 2 even if the olls went my way.  I may need to rethink those guys.

Thanks gents:

@Reyner  Yes, they’re magnetized.  The weapon options have some unique bits, e.g. extra cabling on the lascannon.  So I put the magnets between the assembly and the socket fixture in the hull.  Actually the way the parts fit they clip in very nicely.  I didn’t have to carve out any guides to ensure they lock together.

I debated trying to make the gun slip in & out of the housing but I really don’t foresee every fielding one with bolters.  The las upgrade is too tempting on a Fast vehicle.

Unbelievably, it is 6 days to Adepticon. You would figure that I'd be done with new units ... but no.

You might ask, Q: Since when did he have a Vindicator in his army?  A: Since a few days ago.

You might also ask and what about them flamer guys?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v699/OwlandMoonGuy/IMG_1555_zpsb1864eb3.jpg

The truth is my practice games made me rethink the list.  An outflanking tank list needs more redundancy and scarier tanks to show up in my opponent's back field.  So a squad with x9 flamer templates is a lot scarier than bolters and Vindicators can be scary all by themselves - especially when the outflank move puts them close to vulnerable assets.  So here's to a scarier and more target-rich list.

Speaking of which, here's the finish Rhinos.

My BattleFoam trays came in so I can now get everything into one case for the con:

Believe it or don't but I have two units left.  With reworking the points, there's enough left for a Rapier w/Laser Destroyer array & a Techmarine with a Conversion Beamer.  I really wanted to get the Techmarine back in there - just seems wrong to run IH w/o one.  He's all converted up and ready for paint.  Plus my FW order arrived yesterday with the Rapier.  Just to cut it as close as possible.

Next I need to finish off the decals & give the whole army "last looks" for any touch-ups.  I have a display base set aside but it's needs some refreshing.  I basically have the weekend set aside to do all that.  So things are looking pretty good.

I'll post along the way as I make progress and I'll be sure to include some pics from the con.

Thanks for following along.  Cheers, -OMG
