Hi Guys!

Meanwhile, interrupting your very interesting and material discussion for commercial brake, and because Athrawes can't wait any longer msn-wink.gif I'm posting you sculpted Primarch head.

It was a little precise work on it, but it was worth...

More pictures soon.

Very good stuff work! Congratulation.

I think you have a very interesting concep, i like your Lost bushi-legio Astartes.

Wow, I can't wait to see the Primarch finished.

I don't know if I have said it before, but the colours of the Legion is very appealing.

I'm really glad you like thd scheme for the Thunder Legion. When compared to the pre-existing Legions, it's hard to find a new scheme that both fits in with the rest but stands out. I decided to go with a stormcloud grey scheme after reading betrayal and it's description of "the grey legions" prior to each legion adopting a name and color scheme.

I figured that the II Legio could use that scheme as a base and then added the black shoulder pads and "storm-star" legion crest with the finding of their Primarch.

Also, I just have to say I'm am incredibly pleased with how great the sculpted head of Icarion turned out!

First off your work is amazing and has definitely gotten my own creative juices flowing. On the psychic concept for the legion I personally would shy away from the blank concept. What I propose instead is that they are focused on being seers kinnda like eldar farseers in the sense that they have a strong inclination to divination, like reading the tides and meditating to gain that calm objective understanding like monks almost they are observers and teachers as opposed to the 15th legion who apply their power to direct and abuse the power of the warp.... forgive me I ramble a lot but I think you get the idea

So as it turns out, I am one of those people who will keep tinkering with a 'finished' model until I am 100% percent happy with it. Some times I grow bored with the idea I once had, or sometimes I just come up with a better idea a month or two down the road. Sometimes this does lead to me ruining a previously great model but I sincerely hope this is not one of those times.

While I was very happy with how Sentinel Athrawes turned out as my Praetor, I was never 100% happy with his pose or his sword. (i've tinkered with him at least twice in this very thread!!) This time I think I'm finally finished.

I hated his "strike a cool pose' as it seemed kind of unnatural so I decided to reposition his arms to give him a sense of movement. Now, it's More like he is bounding over the rock to stalk the battlefield.

While i Changed his arms, I decided to use the finished artwork of Icarion to tie the two charters together, so I decided to sculpt him a new shoulder pad with lightning-bolts to allude to Icarion and additionally I decided to remake his sword from scratch.

From the beginning I wanted the Sentinel's sword to be like sister-blade to Icarions spear 'Thunder", so this is my attempt to turn that spear imagery into a sword named "Lightning." Let me know if you guys think I ruined him.

Outstanding... Simply outstanding...

I've read this thread all the way through and I'm truly taken by the concept and execution of your vision of what that 2nd Legion could have been. Great plan to create a Magnus counterpart in your primarch as other primarchs have their martial rivals.

I have dabbled a few times into lost legion concepts but I have never thought of a Japanese theme so Kudos to you indeed! This is awesome make no mistake!

Keep it up, I'd be really excited to see how a dreadnought could look like... biggrin.png biggrin.png biggrin.png

@Marine7312000: I'm glad you like the new sword, It feels a lot closer to the artwork for Icarion than the "buster sword" Raisen used to carry.

@Astartes-Ultra: Thank you for the compliments, it means a lot to know that people aren't put off by an attempt to flesh-out one of the Lost Legions. I actually have been toying with a few ideas for a Dreadnought. One is based off of the Iron Hands Contemptor (as it is my favorite). The other is to theorize what I Volta Dreadnaught would be like. Blind Psychic Dreadnaught-Gunslinger FTW. Might be worth a forgeworld purchase, I'm not sure.

I have this wonderful image in my head of a Mortis Contemptor with Plasma Cannons that looks almost exactly like one of your Volta Terminators. I think I've seen a conversion somewhere that had a "gunslinger" Contemptor, holding a Plasma Cannon like a pistol. Might be something you want to look out for.

The Sentinel looks better. Loving the way he's developing, but his right arm looks a little bit of a mess.

Any progress on the grunts?

Updates!

First, I Changed the arm on the Sentinel one last time. I also sculpted a thunderbolt gem on there and I must admit, I am much happier with his arm and its placement this time around.

Next, I finished another member of the Volta (need them ready to accompany the Primarch when he gets finished) bringing the number up to 4.

I also figured it was about time to post an army shot. While the photo isn't much, it's nice to see a little progress at least for me haha.

As for what I'm working on right now, I Have been wanting to add a 10 man assault squad with a mix of Mk II and IV armor. However, I really hated the idea of mixed Jump-pack designs. So, I decided to pick an all together different jump-pack for them all to be equipped with Forgeworld Raptor packs (as I really like the sleek duel turbine design). So I Picked up 10 of them off Ebay.

And also knocked together a test model for the squad sergeant.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks for all the kind words. I actually have a painting dilemma that I was hoping you could help me with. I need to pick a color for the leather holsters and ammo pouches on the legionaries. I cant decide between dark brown and black. I feel dark brown would stand out a bit more on the miniatures and help to give them some definition, On the other hand, I feel black would make more sense (from a stylistic standpoint) because black is already present on the models scheme in the form of the pauldrons and bolters and I since there are already so many colors on each legionary, I want to avoid them looking cluttered.

Thoughts?

Personally, I'd go for the black leather pouches, cus' everyone an' their mum've got brown pouches 'round 'ere.

Joking aside, Dizzyeye's suggestion is excellent; paint up the pouches on two marines and compare them. Ultimately, you've got to be happy with how they look on the models.

So In working on this fella, I stumbled upon a problem I didn't know existed when I decided to give 1 in 4 legionaries Psychic hoods. They are basically incompatible with helmet crests. (D'oh!) So I decided to give Chosen and squad sergeants with Hoods a Black helmet stripe (as it seems like a practical evolution of representing a crest without being able to wear one.

This however leaves me with a question, should I just remove helmet crests from sergeants in general and make the standard sign of sergeancy a black helmet stripe? As there was only ever going to be two non-psychic Sergeants in the force.

Finally, after testing both black and brown pouches, I found that the black did fade into the model too much. While it may not be original, I felt that the Brown looked better. Hopefully you'll agree.

I'll have another update soon with the first Assault troops!

I agree on the idea of making the change to these sergeants and other officers who have hoods universal to those that don't.

Stripes work, or alternatively you can add some sort of icon that is visible to denote rank. Pauldron, knee pad, maybe one of those small shields you see where the shoulder and chest meet. Maybe trim the the crests down.
