The Khornate marines are looking epic, all veterans if you go by the fluff for the bunny ears :)

If i is for Khorne, why not use skulls for your numbering? For example the cauldron of blood could have a shaved down skull or 3  on the surface of the liquid, floating around "Yummy skull & eyeball soup!!" Objective number 3

The bowl with he eerie smoke? Graft a single skull to the the end of the smoke, like a soul being consumed by Khorne, objective 1.

6 skulls below a banner, objective 6... And so on :)

Next five finished!

I used the DV Chosen models with bolters again for the special weapons specialists. These are the onesd that a friend of frater Maarten gave me this weekend. Thanks again, friend of Maarten!

It's surprisingly easy to get an effective different look for these guys, with different heads; angles of the heads; different backpacks; and by shaving off the horn on the left shoulder pad! Take a look:

i hope you like them! Feedback most welcome, as are all your comments. Thanks for looking. :smile.:

@ Teetengee: OF COURSE yellow and black. And a bunch of other colours. But not too much of those.

@ dantay_xv: that's a really cool idea actually! I wonder though if that makes reading them easy enough. I don't think so, unfortunately - these are purely game pieces that are meant to match my KDK aesthetic. So I think I'll be going with white numbers on a black field. Thank you very much for thinking along and letting me know, though! Much appreciated indeed!

Thanks guys!

Just finished five more Khorne Marines! These are based on the five Blood Warriors from the Age of Sigmar starter set, which I got my hands one when it just came out. A girl walked into GW Amsterdam South, expressed interest in getting into the hobby and to buy the set - but admitted she had no interest in the Khornate miniatures. So I offered to pay 45% of the price and take the Khornate mini's off her hands. She accepted, and lo and behold they actually got painted almost two years later! :)

So that's twenty Khornate Space Marines painted in seven days. I think that's a new record for me.... oh my. I don't think I've ever been so absolutely stoked to paint a certain type of miniature. My guess is I was held back all these years by the horribly, horribly outdated CSM range and just didn't find the right components to make proper Khornate marines. I was loosened a bit by my recent 1250 list, which has 30 Khornate CSM in it - so not Khorne Berzerkers. I guess this loosened my steadfastness to have them look super-Khorny a bit - which led me to loosen my absolute resistance to use the booted Blood Warriors (which I had purchased for this reason about 8 months ago). I'm really glad I did, because it spurred me on and by this time next week I will probably have between 30 and 40 chaos marines! Hurray!

These conversions are really quite simple: just replace the Bloodfist arm with a SM arm with a pistol, put a blob of Greenstuff on the back and push the backpack on. Wait for the GS to dry, peel the backpack off, cut the blob into a rectanguular shap resembling the normal backpack potrusion, and glue the backpack back on.

@ Deathspectersgt7: Haha :thanks:

@ The Traitor: Aren't they? It's amazing how similar the scale of those things are. It's almost if this was done intentionally ! ;)

@ Aasfresser: Get some! They're quite cheap on eBay.

@ Grizzly_bear: Yes, my son?

@ MrBear: Thanks, buddy! The DV chosen are pretty cool miniatures in their own right. The problem with them is that they stand out so incredibly hard from the rest of the Chaos range, that they just look out of place. The fact that there's two of the same in the set, hasn't helped in their popularity. But there's plenty of other examples of how to make them the basis for absolutely spectacular conversion. Just look at KrautScientist's Iron Warriors apothecary!

Jesus... Age of Sigmar came out two years ago? I remember buying a couple boxes for almost the exact purpose you're using the Blood Warriors for now... still haven't gotten 'round to it. :P

But they do look absolutely brilliant. Far better than anything I could have done myself. :tu:

(Also, I will get 'round to dealing with the Tale in the next few days... that has been a bit of a mess, and it's time I cleaned up after myself...)

20 marines in seven days... 20 marines painted to a great standard in seven days... If I'm correct I think I painted like 37 marines over the whole of last year!  I've said it before, but I can say it again: You're a machine mate! :biggrin.:

You're probably right about the chosen, they don't really look like they are part of the same range as the normal CSM. Probably doesn't help that I'm not the biggest fan of the warped and corrupted style either. :smile.:

Yeah, I guess it was almost two years ago? September 2015, right? About the TO20H, you say that every time! :p And I'll keep suggesting that you pick on fixed day/hour of the week wherein you do all the updates. It will greatly keep the participants dedicated to the event. :tu:

Haha thanks buddy! To tell you the truth, I actually finished 5 more today. But as it's dark out now, I can't take any good pictures... And about your meaning on the warped and corrupted style - you and me both, brother!

Like I said elsewhere, you're on fire at the moment! The KDK army is looking fantastic, and interestingly enough, the leather boots are much less of an issue when looking at the project as a whole. And once again, I simply cannot get over how cool those Blood Warrior helmets look on the DV Chosen bodies!

If I may offer one piece of criticism, you've maybe gone a bit too solid gold on those Chosen breastplates: I think they might look even better if you were to pick out the cables and jewels in a different colour.

Loving this last five, the one with the risen axe is so cool, he's obviously screaming BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

I must disagree with Kraut and Aasfresser :P, while painting the cables in other colour (metal) would be nice, I think that they're better without more colours, world eaters already have the damn blue and green world in some parts of the army (your rhino for example) to contrast, and armies look better when uniform. If you however want to paint some gems I would reccomend to do them red for the above reasons.

Keep up the good work, in the time you painted 20 marines and a rhino I managed to assemble two imperial assassins, whooo!

Winning. That is what you are doing good sir!

Loving all of this Khorne goodness. I find myself agreeing about the outdated plastics and I always lament that fact when I chit chat with my buddies. I love the way the DV Chosen look and would go crazy if multi part kits with that design and caliber could come out...but sadly no. I have ended up liking the use of older marks of armor since I like to imagine it as being antiquated compared to the current mk 7 armor.

It has also enabled me to make my Emperor's Children into a 40k and HH army all in one as well.

Thanks for all the looks and comments, everyone - I really appreciate them!

Another five Khorne Marines are finished - two of which are DV Chosen other than the bolter dudes.

The 'champion' has that ridiculous Klingon dual axe/sword thing going on. Ridiculous....ly awesome!
I LOVE BAT'LETHS!

Ahem. Of course, most of the guys in that video have no idea what they're doing, judging from their combat stance and balance. But I still maintain that the Bat'leth is a feasible combat weapon, provided the opponent doesn't also have one. If anyone disagrees, I'll just stick my fingers in my ears and go 'lalalalalalaaaaaa' :tongue.:

Anyway! Enough of the silly rant. Here goes numbers 21-25 of the Khorne Marines!

Here's a close-up of the wo DV CHosen models. I'm quite pleased with how the left guy turned out - he's based (as if that wasn't totally obvious) on the chosen with the power axe. His natural pose just begged for the right handed banner pole arm that comes with the SM command squad, and who am I to deny him this great honour? The one on the right was based on the Chosen with the dual Lighting Claws. I'm less ethused by him. His natural pose is to come straight at you threateningly, with lowered weapons. While it was easy to saw off the arms - actually in a way that allowed me to use those on an other miniature in the future - it was quite difficult to achieve the same menacing, 'coming-at-you-with-lowered-weapons' look with the Blood Warrior axe arms and with standard SM bolt pistol arms. So, I opted for a slightly more dynamic try. The outcome is... less than I'd hoped. His goofy leg pose just doesn't jive with his dynamic arms. Luckily he is now one of 25  - and soon to be 40 - Khornate marines in my collection based on the Blood Warriors aesthetic, so I'll just consider him the runt of the litter. There has to be one least favourite model, after all. :smile.:

@ Teetengee: And you can have it, good sir! About the boots, just imagine them with a spanish accent and a purry voice. That'll make all your boot-y concerns go away. Wait what?

Extreme apologies.

@ KrautScientist: I know right! What do you think of the new Chosen? I agree on the solid gold breastplates. That detail has been damaged in the process of replacing the bolters with special weapons, but not so much as to not do anything with the gems.

@ Aasfresser: I'll paint the gems, good sir! Thanks for the keen eye. :smile.:

@ The Traitor: I appreciate the feedback a lot, but I have to respectfully disagree. The cables are mostly done in either blue or, in case of the fleshy ones of the chosen, in flesh colour. If they're still intact, I'll see if I can paint those cables in a flesh tone too. Red for the gems is a definite nono, as the spot colour for the army cannot by definition be the same as the main colour. They'll be blue! On a more positive note: where can I find those assassins of yours to drool over? :smile.:

@ hushrong: Not sure if I'm 'winning', per se, but painting Khornate miniatures definitely feels like snorting a certain white powdery substance. It has a certain Sheen to it!:biggrin.: I'm all for integrating 30k miniatures ni 40k, and vice versa, btw. Looking forward to your ECs!

I like the Look of the new ones. And the two new converted chosen are awesome. The lightningclaw one looks good imho, he looks a bit cautious like he is striding over a battlefield looking for a suitable skull dir bis collection.
Anyone else remember the Berzerker Glaive from the 3rd Edition (I think) Chaos Codex? Well, that Khornate Bat'leth (Khor'leth?)is officially my new headcanon for what that looks like, pure, traditionally-made, original-recipe awesomesauce. :D
I like these blood warrior conversions more each time I see them, might end up picking up some myself if GW doesn't realease any new chaos models soon. Also, is the chestplate of the one with the banner from the DV chosen? I had never noticed that design and it would fit perfectly my army!!! About the assassins you can find them on the thread of my signature, if you like imperial assassins it would be awesome to see your take on them, they're certainly interesting models!

Man your churning these out, I've really got the bug to do painting but am stuck in Korea again. I'm definitely going to look at the blood warriors when I move on to Hounds of Abaddon and I've got a load of the current berzerkers that'll need updating or something doing with them. Maybe some leg transplants might be in order.

All 40 of these are going to look ace all together and something to take insperation from when I get onto mine.
