Sviar
That's a good start. Keep up the good work. So I'll have to wait a week until the next update... WarriorFish
Very nice work on that Baneblade. Wants me to buy my own. Congrats on completing the vow! I really like what I'm seeing on the platoon so far, too. I, also, have a 20-man Cadian box still in shrinkwrap but I'm not sure what to do with it. Thanks, but isn't the answer obvious - if you've got a box build and paint them! That's a good start. Keep up the good work. So I'll have to wait a week until the next update... Yeah, it was a bit of a pain but the early stage always is (and a little boring). I should be able to make some progress worth showing by the end of next week :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290760-warriorfishs-etl-iii-eleven-barrels-of-hell/page/4/#findComment-3695560 Share on other sites
Ldorte
Good to see some progress on the infantry, I should probably get my behind into gear and do another vow so I can start mine ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290760-warriorfishs-etl-iii-eleven-barrels-of-hell/page/4/#findComment-3695645 Share on other sites

Thanks, but isn't the answer obvious - if you've got a box build and paint them! Ha! Yes. The question is HOW to paint them ... given my main force is Krieg, do I paint them up as Inquisitorial Troops to complement my Scions? Do I paint them up as another regiment that's been combined with my existing troops to explain the different look? Veterans or Platoon (I don't believe in fielding so-called "veterans" who don't look like veterans with a tonne of conversions and personality). Do I buy some more Catachans and kit-bash them to expand my "Penal Legion" collection to make a penal platoon? You see how an obvious decisions quickly becomes a difficult one!! WarriorFish
I return from holiday, but I won't be picking up a paint brush until later this week so there won't be any updates for a little bit. A shame that the weather is so much worse here, it started raining the moment the plane touched tarmac at Gatwick... :P As for your questions Nico, there's another simple hobbyist answer for that too: let the dice decide! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290760-warriorfishs-etl-iii-eleven-barrels-of-hell/page/4/#findComment-3696338 Share on other sites

WarriorFish
I've been snatching time here and there so they've come along. I've found a good bit of time over this weekend for painting so I will be reporting back with something worth seeing after that :tu: Doesn't help that the weather has been poor lately, so what time I do have is spent making tediously slow progress in bad light :( You'd be forgiven for thinking it was May! Everyone's progress has me inspired to get to work so I'm hoping to blast through them but we'll see how it goes :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290760-warriorfishs-etl-iii-eleven-barrels-of-hell/page/4/#findComment-3710266 Share on other sites
scatmandoo
Well done on finding some painting time this weekend. Your units so far have been impressive. As for light, my painting is all in the evening under a desk lamp normally! Never have the luxury of daylight Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290760-warriorfishs-etl-iii-eleven-barrels-of-hell/page/4/#findComment-3710289 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Thanks! I try to paint during the weekend daytimes, but the evening for non-detail work is essential for making progress otherwise I'd never get things done. It also means I can save the daylight painting for the detail work so it's efficient use of time Time is so hard to find at the moment as there's a lot on my plate but I've got my eye on the prize of a third vow this year so I'm trying to be clever with my schedules Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290760-warriorfishs-etl-iii-eleven-barrels-of-hell/page/4/#findComment-3710317 Share on other sites

Your units so far have been impressive. As for light, my painting is all in the evening under a desk lamp normally! Never have the luxury of daylight I have decent light at my painting table, but it's baseball season, lol...I usually end up painting at my desk while watching a ball game over the interwebz...worse light would be hard to imagine! Last night, though, I brought everything to the dining room table and put the game up on a laptop with 180 watts of overhead lighting...much better! WarriorFish
I'll be sure not to disappoint ;) I wonder about the "daylight bulbs" you can get, I had heard they were a bit rubbish but that was from a professional artist so on further reflection maybe they might be good enough for modelling - I'm not trying for any Golden Daemons! Brother Lorien
Daylight bulbs are actually good for painting...best is offcourse daylight itself , but daylight bulbs actually give you a good representation of the actual colors...except blue can be a bit different with some bulbs Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290760-warriorfishs-etl-iii-eleven-barrels-of-hell/page/4/#findComment-3710814 Share on other sites

WarriorFish
Cool thanks, I'll see if I can get one. I feel a bit silly for not thinking it through some more, goes to show that an expert's opinion may well be correct but not necessarily right for you :P The skies have opened for a thunderstorm so I'll be stuck using my lamp today anyway... march10k
Yep, 16 hours of rain/thunderstorm here, too, should clear out around...dusk. Ugh. WarriorFish
Rubbish, I was so pleased with myself for finding the time too. Fortunately the Emperor saw my plight and cast the clouds aside revealing a wonderfully sunny day :) I should have some pictures up tomorrow or Monday - but remind me never to do so many troopers at once again... Thunderhawk3015
Nonsense, no such thing as too many troopers to do in one go. march10k
Nonsense, no such thing as too many troopers to do in one go. If you detail them to the level of a space marine chapter master....there is! I think in that case the number is three... WarriorFish
In the grand scheme of things maybe not, but when you're painting to a deadline... :P It's the camouflage that does it, 3 colours in a relatively detailed scheme across almost the entire model takes a while and gets boring! As I said it goes in cycles; while painting it I hate and regret it but afterwards I'm glad because it looks quite good with lots of troopers standing together :) Another find day today (no thunderstorm to start though), so once I'm finishing catching up it's back to my brushes :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290760-warriorfishs-etl-iii-eleven-barrels-of-hell/page/4/#findComment-3712074 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
These pictures are pretty bad but I promised and I can't be bothered to take them again Two out of three camouflage colours are done, but that was enough for my eyes and sanity so the black will have to wait. I've sorted other things too, the wash is done of course and I've done all the faces as well as prepare the bases for the sand (including most of the boots to save time) so all in all a good weekend's work I reckon :) I'm quite busy next week so it will probably be the weekend again before I can get back to my desk but I might need that delay in order to face the final camo colour Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290760-warriorfishs-etl-iii-eleven-barrels-of-hell/page/4/#findComment-3712352 Share on other sites
scatmandoo
They are looking good! A good effort considering the weather. You will be happy with the camo once they are done! WarriorFish
Now that's a surprise - the pictures aren't quite as bad as I thought, what a difference fresh eyes makes! :P Thanks mate, I'm pleased with the amount of progress I made but there's still a reasonable amount left. The camo needs the black to "pop" so it'll look better once that's done, I'll try and get the bases finished over this week when I can find time as they don't require good light to do :) The black will be a little time consuming to do but once that's done the models are all but finished, then I can spend some time on the banner :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290760-warriorfishs-etl-iii-eleven-barrels-of-hell/page/4/#findComment-3712956 Share on other sites
march10k
The camo is really hard to see, I didn't even realize it was there at first. On closer inspection, I like it, but I'd like a closer look even more...perhaps after the job is finished? WarriorFish
It doesn't help that the pictures aren't brilliant, but yeah it looks a bit bland until the black goes on. I do have a couple of pictures from ETL II that shows the camouflage pattern well: As you can see it's not overly complicated, just a pain in the backside to paint Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290760-warriorfishs-etl-iii-eleven-barrels-of-hell/page/4/#findComment-3713760 Share on other sites
