4th Tarosian Regiment - Devildog

Recommended Posts

I don't really know where it's going to go from here, other than a downward spiral into insanity and addiction, perhaps. :P

Much of the armour is being held back for the ETL. Expect the Tarosians to have a presence supporting the Guard subforum! :)

Very nice against the likes of Carnifexes and other 3+Sv Monstrous Creatures. I wouldn't say it's amazing against squads of say, Marines though, there's better tools for that in the Codex. It also suffers a bit when the target is rocking a Cover or Invulnerable Save.

Overall, it's a bloody lovely model. You can justify taking it if you really like it, but it won't be wiping squads out at a time without some silly play from your opponent.

I received some Elysian heads in an order a little while back, and decided to use them on a Veteran squad to get a more unique look on them. Pathfinder torsos and Cadian legs help seal it. I'm using the Rail Rifles as counts-as Plasma Guns, (they use heavier slugs which give greater stopping power at the cost of range and armour penetration, and the Rail Rifles are an older model which still have Gets Hot.) The Sergeant is armed with a Pulse Pistol that has been powered down to work as a Bolt Pistol.

Looking forward to doing the rest of this squad. They're basically Elysians that survived the Independence War, (referred to as the Taros Campaign by the rest of the Imperium.) Opting to join the Tarosians rather than engage in lengthy and ultimately doomed guerilla campaigns like their Tallarn compatriots, many Elysian prisoners have joined the cause, and use their skills to train the next generation of drop troops serving the Tarosian Empire. They'll be riding a Valkyrie into the fight and jumping out to engage Monstrous Creatures where they threaten the defensive line.

Still to finish the rest of this squad. May submit one for the One For All challenge as well!

My current plan for the Tau-ified Valkyrie is to mount Sunshark Engines on the wings, to provide a little more forward thrust and make it seem more upgraded. Other than that, I'm not sure what else I could do to upgrade it aside from a few small details.

Anyway, I've been working through the last bits and pieces for this big game. Spent much of yesterday stripping models in Acetone-Free Nail Varnish Remover. One Manticore is really struggling, due to having been party to about four paintjobs all layered on top of each other. (As a painting snob, it made em feel annoyed even before I had to ruin two toothbrushes scrubbing most of it off!) It was also interesting as the AFNVR ate through the cheap superglue some people had used, freeing up parts I'd fear were permanently glued in place, and disassembling Guardsmen into their component parts. It was a little like a reclamation pool, really.

I thought I'd make my intent known to my Tyranid-loving friend with this model though. If I won our upcoming game, it'll be in his colours. If not, it'll be his choice of colours as I eat my humble pie. :P

Additionally, the Veteran Elysians are finished. Their Valkyrie is still sitting on my desk half-built. I'm trying to magnetise the wings, and the process is a real pain. May have to look up a tutorial or two, as transport is a PitA for my existing Valks, so I want this one to be more compact. What do you guys think of the guy on the far-right being the Vox Caster? I'm planning on adding a wire aerial or something to make it stand out more, but I liked the idea of a compact, high-tech Vox system for them. I can probably make it more noticeable with a paintjob as well:

Finally, I've started work on a Special Weapon Squad with 3x Demolitions Charges, for deployment from the Vendetta gunship. I decided on using a semi-improvised "gravity bomb" as the basis for the Demo pack.I wanted it looking suitably heavy to justify its short range, but high-tech enough to make the insane damage it can put out more believable. They should make for a good squad of martyrs for the cause, provided my luck doesn't turn against me!

I love the Sentinel stomping on a Tyranid, but the wings may cause trouble when you're positioning it, e.g., moving it as close to a wall as possible (for the Cover Save), WITHOUT interfering with the plasma cannon's line-of-sight (for Shooting attacks).

The gargoyle's a bit awkward to pose, the wings slot in under the carapace, so it's hard to repose it as a result. I'm not too fussed about positioning, my Sentinels tend to be out in the open drawing fire away from my Chimeras and Hellhounds, so they don't use Cover much. I also tend to cram my Infantry into cover anyway. :P

Might give that a shot then. For now I've went back to my entry for Blood and Glory. Almost finished the base colours, then it's on to shading and highlighting!

It's his CCW, how do you think that dapper fella ended up on top of it? :P

I finished the build of my customised Valkyrie, refitted for the previously-posted Elysian Gue'vesa squad. I really want to retrofit my other Valkyries with Sunshark engines now, gives it some serious presence and makes them look more like fighter craft!

I did consider looking into putting the Sun Shark engines up top if I ever build this again. However, they'd look quite a bit smaller and out of scale, plus they'd be awkward to fit around the cockpit. I'd already assembled the engines on this one by the time I got around to adding the Sun Shark engines.
