Is the reapers gun metal a wash or a actual paint?

@Recon the blue gunmetal is an actual paint. It went on kind of thick, reaper paints don't go through my airbrush well so i had to use a real brush

I prime it with GW black then i airbush tamiya silver. After that i airbrush multiple thin coats of Tamyia clear blue. I wash them with watered down drakenhoff and watered down nul oil and a light dry brush of reaper honed steel

 

the recipe changes depending if im doing these guys or vets or tac marines. My tac marines and vehicles had tamiya clear green as well as a green wash

Betrayer do you have any experience with other paints from the reaper line...I just noticed I have solid blue and bright turquoise...

 

Was thinking of using bright blue for my recon squads that or kantor blue and turquoise for the rest

Other than paints for my airbrush i only use Reaper and gw. I like them quite a bit. i have to dilute them first so they go on smoother. But i really like the line. i continually order from them

Cheers, sounds quite similar to the FW way. Don't have an airbrush though :(

@recon: let me know the name of the paint and i can let you know if ive used it and how it turned out.

 

@Fire: you can do something similar but instead of airbush. paint the model with the silver then do multiple then washes of blue

The paints are bright blue and bright turquoise from reaper

Betrayer so I already asked but how did you paint the other alpha with the volkites?

@ recon it's a lot of trial and error. And a lot of frustration

 

I used testtors silver as a base, (I've been using tamiya silver through yeh airbrush recently though)

 

2 light coats of thinned tamiya clear green at. 45 degree angle from above

 

Next I used several coats of thinned tamiya Clear blue from from below the model at an upward angel.

 

Used a lighter coat of tamiya clear blue over the entire model except on certain parts to let the green show through.

 

Light wash of thinned Guilliman blue to fill in gaps and bring out the blue

 

Next a light wash of thinned biel tan green

 

Another thinn coat of tamiya clear blue sporadically over the model

 

Last a thinned wash of nul oil

 

And then a very light drybrush of honed steel

I did a light was of the gw purple wash on the volkite guys shoulder pads

I know it seems that way but it's easy.... Once you get the thinning down and psi it's easy. I'm going to knock out 10 marines tonight it should talk 30 min all and all to get the blue green.

 

I can do a step by step if youn would like? Like I said a lot easier than it looks

How did you make the loin clothes? They seekers look great

Loin cloths are actually just anvil industry tabbards, just need to clip and shave them so they fit

They look excellent, trust FW though to make such a complicated primary colour scheme for the Alpha Legion.
