Tundaran Knights-73 big update, tree demon, things!

Your napping chappy (sorry, can't help but think he's asleep) definitely looks a bit dreamy in the skyblue with wisping clouds. msn-wink.gif The white parts on your termy look great though, no blue at all that I can see. The witch is coming along nicely also.

I like the idea of a dedicated unit for your black and bone guys over just having random guys in units being a different color because they're crazy. Hum... Those guys could be veterans too, a lot of chapter's vets have a different scheme from the main army.

ahahah, nappy chappy, that's a good one! laugh.png

He's burning the xenos filth in front of the Big E's golden gates for millenia to come, the eternal zealots dream! rolleyes.gif

Maybe my family's the ones that are color blind after-all (i wish happy.png )

perhaps just those that served as assault marines then, perhaps the rank of assault marine could be held with honor, maybe jump packs are a rare commodity? (that'd also give me a reason to paint the assault SH termy with lightning claws in black too, which would be AWESOME!!!)

the only other slight problem i'd have with it is the blood drops that are oozing over these terminators, because the Knights are Raven Guard successors..... guess that's why their yellow then, huh? tongue.png

What if i also worked in some marking/coloring for those with combat familiars? (well, if i ever find more guys to make familiars with, that is.)

WOW, 100 posts! that's an achievement for me!!! WOOO! laugh.png

AND FIVE PAGES!?!? COOL! (I feel special!)

looking good. I like the paint job on the dead termie.

Thank Ya!

i'm fairly confident enough to do that again on my currently not 'nommed by 'nids chaplain, the one whose going to be wreathed in smoke and such. (if I ever get to doing it, need more parts sweat.gif )

the Librarian and Termy are going to end up finished sometime during the week if not next weekend, got to re-write an entire 3 and a half page essay for my crazy (ie. rude, annoying, harsh, etc.) english teacher. Then i have an Algebra test to study for, and one for Physics too, YAY! down.gif

Have a good one y'all!

midweek update time!

some more WIP pics of the pair, they're nearing completion, what's left to do includes the bases, librarians skin, edge highlights (one on blue, 2 brown), gold touch ups, yellow gems, white (especially the non mechanical eye, man that looks bad! wacko.png ) etc.

Also, for the power weapons (thunder hammer, force axe, and power sword) i was thinking of finally including BA influence and go red...... whadda y'all think?

The brown actually looks really good on these models. I usually never see brown aside from bases and pouches, but this looks good.

+1

The sky blue on the terminator plays off that brown nicely.

As for the red you're already pretty spread around for colors, but if it's just for the "power glow" effect then I think that would work well. If kept consistent through the army it could help to tie some of your disparate units together.

thank ya!

you think so? i guess that makes sense...... the finished models i have sport blue for the glow, (kostin, primarily) a blue that works up to white. I suppose it could work out. (i've also practiced with an orange, which works well with my other gray marines, don't think it'd transfer well though... sweat.gif )

i'll experiment and see what looks better.

thanks to all of ya for looking!

Mornin' folks!

got halfway through my promise and finished up one of the lads, the librarian keeps throwing me for a loop though, so he's gonna take some more effort. sweat.gif

Xeno Hunter Ocel Silenstva

Calculating yet compulsive, Ocel Silenstva is a designated genestealer exterminator, and his fervent adherence to the title has earned him many honors in his long centuries of service to the Tundaran Knights. Among his brothers he remains a belligerent, always readily requesting hunt and kill assignments from his superiors, and often carrying them out with or without their consent if capable, which has lead to his sergeants keeping him on an increasingly short leash. During the infancy of his service in the vaunted first company, his brash nature had cost him dearly, losing an eye and most of the right side of his face to the acids of a deathleaper after it and several others had ambushed his squad, the experience had only served to deepen his hatred for the xenos, and the mechanical cyber implant that replaced the burnt, blackened flesh of his cranium now aids in his unending search for prey, it's data feeds consistently keeping track of his kill tally, 1,362 confirmed prior to his squads assignment to the godless son cleansing.

"Target.... located."

-

-

-

"Moving to intercept, reloading chambers."

-

-

-

-

"contact confirmed, 5 xenos, Indavian sect of the Splinter fleet Syral. Firing."

-

-

"Enemy kills confirmed. The vermin died screaming."

+-20 hours after insertion into godless son, reported location, .6 Kloms from the rest of Casen Iordan.-+

Definitely not my worst work! biggrin.png

My perspective on how he turned out:

-happy with the brown, although some better control on the edge highlights is desirable

-the white on the helm may have too much seraphim sepia, i may go back and cover some of it up with white...

-the lights on his armor are rather lackluster, i'm going to redo those until i'm happy with them

- the right side hip armor has some nasty looking spots where i missed with straight white, gonna fix that

- gold was well done compared to the chaplains, may want to reduce the amount of runefang steel with more auric armor gold

- base looks fine, maybe some blood?

i'll also take a sec and show y'all how the librarian is turning out, he sill needs a face (i'm very much incapable of painting it well, that's for sure.) and the power weapon colors need to be tested, my brothers' and friends input were to go with red, at least for the axe, because blue power weapon on blue armor didn't seem so appealing. Base skulls need to be done, and highlights/weather in on the rest of it, and i may redo the text on the book, upper right side, as it doesn't look anything like the diagram i was going for.wacko.png

oh, and the next guys are going to be "kneeling to pull up the floor guy" and him:

Ocel looks Great . And the Librarian is coming along nicely.

thank you much!

This is all coming along really nicely, good work on Ocel. When I first saw the name I thought he was an Inquisitor, but it turns out he was a badass termie instead biggrin.png . Keep up the good work.

That's actually what i was worried about with the title xeno hunter, but i felt like he deserved the honorific, the pose of him examining the scanner in the fist along with his bionic eye made me think of a poacher/hunter. biggrin.png

looking back at them now, some more stealer trophies would've really helped tie them in to the Knights' theme,( crazies who take skulls because their heads are broken,) but i was really concerned about meddling with those models, i mean it was a 120$ kit that i would've been tampering with, i doubt i have the skills or the guts to mess around with them! blink.png

Lots to do, soooooo little time, tests on Monday and Tuesday, assigned reading to read, black library to read, Boy Scout meeting and court of honor, ship to build, akame ga kill and Walking Dead to watch, forge world/GW to envy (that Deredeo might have it's legs incorporated into the contemptor dread i'm designing, i LOVE the 4 pronged legs!!!!) Marines to paint, marines to build, xenos with the same issue, lizardmen too..... wacko.png

Have a good 'un! biggrin.png

That Libby looks fantastic so far, it just has an epic feel to it. Maybe its the gold or maybe the scroll work but you are on track for an amazing mini. I wish my work would throw me for a loop like that :)

thank ya! ( i had some serious doubts when i compared my own to some of the other versions i'd seen)

you're own painting's really quite good by the way, and the sculpting you can pull off. laugh.png

I'll be honest though, the reason it threw me for a loop was because i haven't even painted any faces yet, this is my first. wacko.png

wow thanks, i really love the contrast in the skin tones! I was originally trying for something like the vampire counts skin (as done in the weekly white dwarf for the mortarchs, specifically mannfreds how-to), as these lot are Raven Guard successors. The big problem with that pale skin look is the prevailing colors for parchment and cloth are pallid wych flesh and ushabti bone in my army, which kinda forces my hand unless i can experiment around with vallejo game color...... or change to a regular pigmented skin like the tutorial, not a bad thing unless i get called out for continuity with the founders.(or beat myself up for doing that... msn-wink.gif )

Being color blind doesn't quite help either, especially when it's bad enough to where i thought i was white until the middle of the 4th grade. sweat.gif (For the record, i'm half Asian and Native American/Caucasian mix... Sooo........ Orange? teehee.gif)

i'll search around my workspace for anything to test on, i fear that he and the sergeants may get pushed off as far as faces go until i get some testers primed and based to experiment on.... but i'd much rather do that than risk ruining the model, so do forgive me y'all if it comes to that...

as always, thank ya much for lookin'!! biggrin.png

EDIT:: if i do ruin it, i'm carving out their cranial cavities and fitting in some helmets.

fingers crossed it won't necessarily come to that... wacko.png

I think the contemptor is the way to go, but that's because I'm biasedbiggrin.png . I just love contemptors even though I don't own any (yet). Plus I would like to see a Badass combat killy murderous contemptor.

Which ever you choose, keep churning out some models.

definitely worth getting your hands on at least 1 (or 2......or 3....)

SIR YES SIR!!!

But, i'm gonna start by doing the exact opposite with this update, as it's purely hypotheticals and idea hurling right now.... sweat.gif

My pretty rough drawing of a VERY ambitious Dreadnought, ideas are always a helpful start. wink.png

Some designers notes on the planned build: (or whatever tongue.png.... The links are to the picture in question in the note, the reason being links to save some space. )

- the wings are entirely for decoration, and serve no purpose other than to look cool.

- the thrusters on the back where the power plant used to be are sort of like a jump pack, but propelling the dreadnought more horizontally than vertically (think like nitrous on a car, but in short bursts)

- shoulder pad details are a poorly recreated form from the Morghast Archai, i hope to use some of the armor plating and skulls in various places.

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/144244-image1/

- the contemptor skull was inspired by a mountain lions', and unless anybody knows how to get one for cheap anywhere, it'll be an interesting sculpt job.... wacko.png

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/144248-image4/

- i do hope to figure out how to mount a pair of (heavy?) flamers onto the chest, most likely going to carve out chunks of the resin in order to create space for them to fit better... i hope to cross a design with these 2 or similar if i can

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/144246-image3/

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/144245-image2/

- the right arm, lower design is most likely the final pick between it and the one above it, a large 4 bladed star mounted above the claws on a holster type device, with the capability of detaching and being swung via a large link chain

- I'm not entirely happy with the left arm design (or the upper, right arm design either), and will probably change it into something else..... may-haps a converted gun of some sort? i'm thinking mega flamer or quad bolters or something... ideas welcome here too.

i do hope that the Archai wings are large enough... because the next step up is probably going to be this....

http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Vampire-Lord-on-Zombie-Dragon

and i definitely don't have the money for that on top of everything else. (if anybody has some measurements of Archai wings, that'd be awesome to let if you could let me know!)

I really don't quite fathom what i've gotten myself into here..... do I? sweat.gif

Well, that's everything. Hope to get that project started around mid march or april, as my timing for orders never seems to be quite right... Thanks for looking!

(PS: actual model updates are coming [hopefully] the weekend. Aslo, i was cleaning up my room and finally got my humble collection of posters hung up above my bed: ">http://gallery_77140_10004_161581.jpeg

biggrin.png )

For the skull starting with the space wolf dreadnought skull and shortening and broadening the snout it might work with minimum sculpting. Just cutting then smoothing the gaps and fill?

OH you're right! that's a wonderful idea Bats! thank you!

I've also been looking at some of the fantasy range for a *hopefully* comparable sized headpiece, some of the ideas being:

-count Mannfreds' skeleton horse

-the Khemrian war-sphinx head (probably too large.... )

-one of the Ushabti with great bows' skulls, there are 2 rather dog looking ones and a birds', either of the mammalian ones could do nicely with a bit of work...

i'll need to do some research on sizes, starting with the contemptor (unless i have to enlarge it via. carving wacko.png ) then i'll need to look around online for the rest of the sizes to find a best fit that still looks nice. If y'all happen to have any of the models and could send me the sizes, that'd be super. msn-wink.gif

while i'm at it, the fantasy zombie dragons' wings compared to the Morghast Archai are also important, gotta figure out how to make dreadnought jump booster packs too.... oh busy me.

actually, overall, this means i'll need:

night lords contemptor body

Deredeo body (those legs are sooo sexy, not necessary, but really want.)

militarum aircraft punisher cannons (my solution for a lack of dakka adn lack of weapon diversity, 2 is always better than one too!)

a pair of contemptor claws

Morghast Archai kit (for armor and, hopefully, wings)

if the wings fail, then the zombie dragon

bits to make the skull (whether i sucker in for the whole kit or look for just the part itself)

---Ushabti with great bows,Khemrian warsphinx, count mannfred, or the SW venerable dreadnought <-(which is very tempting to get anyway, it's another lovely kit)

Holy jesus of the 41st millenium that's a crap ton of money!blink.png

hmmm... if y'all have any ideas for a big-ass shuriken as well, that'd be cool, although i expect i'll need to make one... (the vermin lord kit comes to mind as a base)

thanks for the idea again, and thanks as always for takin' a look at my works!biggrin.png

Having put together the Terrorgheist i can tell you the zombie dragon wings are HUGE

ooh, that worries me.... i don't wanna make the contemptor look like he's possessed.....

depending on how big it is compared to the contemptor torso, it may change the whole design if i end up having to go with those wings instead of the Morghasts'. (maybe i could work the pseudo jump pack thrusters into the wing design if i do, rather than a twisted/overgrown version of the sanguinary guards' put onto a dreadnought.)

as for other kits with wings, I'm kinda stumped... the only 40K feasible option would be the tyranid hive crone, which is out of the question for sure...

fantasy wise, I'd also rather not deal with fleshy/feathery bits, so no wood elf eagle or Vampire Counts Vargheist or the Chimera... tomb kings carrion are way too small...... closest to the mark are definitely the previously mentioned Morghasts, and Zombie Dragon/Terrorgheist. confused.gif

or maybe the Balrog..... devil.gif

if i got the terrorgheist kit, I'd also like to see what i can do with that skull in the kit, it'd make a way cool chest ornament if i end up having to carve out the front of the sarcophagus/head cover to make the skull fit...

Whatever i can end up with, I'll make it work, or sit there sculpting for HOURS and make my own sorry rendition of bone wings myself.

Have a good one! happy.png

(oh and walking dead's back on..... Tyreese NOOOOOOO!!! unsure.png)

The Hive crone wings like the winged hive tyrant wings are also huge. Morgheist might work though i don't have one of those so i cant be sure.  But Terrorgheist, Hive Crone and Winged Tyrant wings would all work as decorative on a KNIGHT, for a contemptor they'd only work if he could fly.

Other options might be the Vargheist wings. Those could work on a contemptor. You'd need the ones held symmetrically not with of the one-wing-up-one-wing-down posed wings though.

blink.png oh, that's how big ya meant?

well geez, in that case i'd better hope the others work...

These pair of wings might be what you are after

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c59/heinzdwarf/Vargheist1.jpg

wow that should actually work quite effectively, thank ya!

now all i should figure out before i dive in head first is how to mount them in a way that looks non-chaos mutation and more like a trophy decoration type... i can definitely work with this!

got a lot to do on him though, including tidying up the main armor color, and highlights, the bones, the trim, gems, the lightning claws, gold, base, helmet and eyes, so basically everything needs work.sweat.gif

took the pics at my homework desk, because that's what i've gotta be doing now, gotta love the scenic view of logarithms, momentum and impulse worksheets, and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks!

anyway, that's all for now, thanks for lookin' and have a good 'un! thanks.gif
