Because of colour theory you could also mix some green into the wash too... Just quoting Miles from Lil' Legend on that one though...

Yup, purple and green both work really nicely on gold, it comes down to personal preference. I think the purple works better with the silver highlights, and the warmer effect it gives.

Green is also a really good shade for red.

I do really like how smooth that gold is on the first captain model you posted.

Part of what I like about using the nuln oil is that it does dull the armor a bit, although for sanguinary guard that does seem sort of wrong- Behold the Golden Host and all that.

Agrax will do the same - if you go all over. I've found nuln makes things...muddy...if you will. I prefer it on iron and silver, but whatever you like the most!

The captain was black undercoat, then 2 coats of retributor until it had a good coverage.

I honestly need to be better about doing more coats of retributor, as I go back and look at some of my other stuff.

I'd actually been doing agrax on most stuff but I've managed to spill two pots all over my desk in the past few months and have partially decided it's a cursed color- never spilled anything else. I really do like your gold though so maybe I should just bite the bullet and buy more.

Edit: Yeah, I really like the red-gold color you get if you apply it all over. I'm actually using that as the trim on my Knight and am experimenting a bit with it on my sanguinary guard as well.

I use Reikland on my Custodes over Retributor spray.

Here is how it looks with just the wash on base:

Then here is with all the highlights and drybrush etc:

I've honestly felt like my Repulsor has under-performed for me when I've taken it. It puts out a fair number of shots but a lot of those will be mostly wasted against harder targets. I'm leaning much more toward Inceptors and Stormtalons for horde clearing duty.

I am actually really excited for Reivers. You can drop a JP Sanguinary Priest along with them and start wounding MEQ on 2's. You can have ~30 attacks that hit on 3's and wound on 2's for something like 300 points which is really pretty solid. You miss out on some of our jump pack synergy but even without the priest they'll make for a pretty good backline disruption unit.

I feel the best repulsor loadout is:

Lastalon, twin lascannon, onslaught gatling cannon, heavy stubber and then either the frag assault launchers or storm bolters. Use the las weapons on harder targets and the rest as an anti chaff thing.

Still undecided on whether to pick up the primaris dread, aggressors or hell blasters.

All of them.

And more DC.

And more SG.

I was about to start an Eldar army with the cash I'll likely end up getting this Christmas but the codex dropping has me  newly excited about my boys in red and now I've got at least six months of purchases planned out.

Oh yes. I know the lure of multiple armies. I use my son as an excuse. That kid has way too many armies.

Likewise, I had strongly considered starting a brand new army after I finished what was on my backlog.

Now I'm thinking of starting an Angels Sanguine chapter using primaris.

Yeah, getting to the backlog. It just keeps getting more and more models!

I'd like to make a detachment featuring Flesh Tearers and Seth. That would be fun to be able to drop into the mix.

I'm just not sure what should go along with him. I'd like to get a CP out of the detachment, so patrol is out the window, as is battalion. Maybe Vanguard (or whatever elite one is called)? Not sure. Maybe bunch of AM?  Again, not really sure. Especially since Seth has to walk to school... war... you know what I mean.

In my all primaris build I run two of these exactly as stated.

I wish I had the points to run two of those lol

I don't even have the points to run all the characters I'd like to run. Taking Intercessors, 2x Reiver, 2x Inceptor, 2xHellblaster, a Redemptor and a Repulsor plus like 3 characters is all I can fit into a 2k list and I'd love to have a Reiver, a Inceptor, and one Repulsor or Redemptor unit more still. And more characters of course. :D

Still brain storming. Here's the mecha list.

Not sure if you answered this already, but on the Inceptors why the bolter version instead of plasma?

The assault bolters are putting out a lot of shots with a small AP mod and strength 5, theyre also much cheaper, so they are quite useful if used for the correct purpose

I haven't seen the point cost for either but strength 5 bolters sounds pretty good.
