This thread will serve to encompass all things relevant to a Heresy campaign we will be hosting in here Montreal. You will come to expect a wide range of topics within this thread ranging from the campaign map movements, battle reports, modelling, painting, scenery and fluff as we build a narrative along with the campaign's evolution. We are set to start in 3 weeks time, so battle preperations will be made. We will be meeting once a month to do campaign moves resolve battles and document any progress either in modelling or fluff. This thread will be picture heavy!

The Map will be a Hexboard map, with every unit on the roster being independent and able to occupy squares. So battles will have a different range of points anywhere from a skirmish to a full out apocalypse encounter. Units will gain experience as they survive the campaign and gain renown. I will cover the rules in the next post.

We will start the campaign with a fixed 4,000 pts roster, and will periodically expand it until we reach 5,000 points. The roster keeps expanding, units cannot be replaced once purchased, but they can receive upgrades and squad size increases. Primarchs will be available at 5,000 pts.

We will eventually devellop the system to include space boarding action and special missions. These missions will not be intended to be 100% balanced, but to make certain specialist units shine.

Forging the narrative

With the campaigh initially intended to be a 3 way free for all, we decided to amp this into a good old fashion Loyalists Vs treacherous scumbags.

Hexboard Map movement rules and Misc.

HQs must be deployed with a retinue. This will prevent unfortunate character sniping.

Infantry move 1 Hex.

Bikes, jet bikes, jump infantry, tanks and units in transports 2 Hexes

Flyers and super heavy flyers move 3 hexes. They can move over impassible terrain. They can drop troops that are embarked and have the capacity to deepstrike from the flyer if they do not perform a combat action. Super heavy flyers not taking part of a combat action can make an attack run on a adjacent Hex. They cannot capture Hexes unless they have the ability to land and do so. Flyers that are caught landed start the game in that position.

Super heavies move 1 hex and have the Lumbering Behemoth special rule. They cannot overrun, and when performing a combat action against a hex without a super heavy, the defending player can choose to immediately fallback 1 hex and allow the super heavy to automatically seize the hex.

Drop Pods can be deployed with 3 hexes of your Commander HQ. They must spend a turn to reembark or move normally on the board as per their unit type. The drop pod remains in the Hex it landed in, and a unit must be in that same hex to reembark. If the unit is deploy onto and enemy hex and fails to capture it, It's drop pod is considered destroyed. The unit must fallback to the Commander HQ to redeploy via drop pod or move normally.

Attack!

Moving into an occupied hex constitutes a combat action up to one adjacent hex can asssist a square under attack and moves to that hex. If a unit as already moved it's full movement this turn, it cannot assist. If a player succeeds in wining an encounter, they get to overrun 1 hex, once per game turn. This can generate 1 additional combat in the same turn as a result of the movement.

To the Victor goes the spoils!

Units that survive encounters against experience points. Gaining experience will increase the renown level of the unit and cause it to gain additional rules and titles.

Defeated units...

Units that are completely wiped out during a game "die", and respawn at their owner's base on the second following turn as a fresh unit, losing all experience and renown benefits.

Fortifications Allowance

Every turn, each player gains 50 fortification points. These points can be used to purchase standard fortifications, which will be a permanent fixture to the hex they are built in. This means they can fall into enemy hands. To build the fortification, a unit must be present in the hex, and it must forfeit it's turn to deploy the fortification.

Legion Special Rules

Raven Guard

Gather Intelligence - Raven Guard can add +1 or -1 to Initiative or discovery rolls made by his allies or himself. they can support from 2 hexes away if they have enough movement to do so.

Coordinated Strike - Raven Guard may reroll reserve rolls, successful or failed.

Night Lords

A little gift for you! - Night Lords can buy Tarantula sentry guns with their foritification points

There's something in the air ... - Night Lords can drop Phosphex bombs in hexes where they are engaged, at the cost of 75 fortification points per bomb.

Iron Warriors

Trench Warfare - Iron warriors get a 25% pts discount on Aegis Defence lines and Wall of the Martyr.

Earth shattering support - Legion Basilisks can make supporting attack runs up to 2 tiles away.

The Mechanicum

Waste not! - For each Legion Astartes infantry unit slain in a winning battle, the Mechanicum can generate D10  Laslock Tech-Thralls.

Want not! - The Mechanicum gets a 25% discount on Void Shield Generators

Imperial Fists

Dauntless Denfenders - Imperial fists get a 25% discount on Bastions and Fortresses.

Vaults of Terra - Imperial Fists characters may upgrade a weapon to master crafted for free

Iron Hands

Blessing of the Omnissiah - Iron Hands legion tactical squads with Gravtion guns may change their weapon option before deployment.

The Forges of Medusa - Any model with a combi-bolter may upgrade it to a combi weapon for free.

Scoring Points and Winning the Campaign

Because we went from 3 players to 6, we had to do some modifications. The Campaign will be a race to 500 Victory points, pitting the Loyalists VS the Misunderstood (TRAITORS!)

Capturing Hexes

At the end of each game turn, each side scores 1 Victory Point per hex they currently control. Controling an enemy base will be extremely difficult, thus they are worth 5 victory points.

Combat Actions

Players will score 2 points for winning a combat action, 1 point for a draw.

Misc Objectives

we will introduce objective tiles worth 2-3 victory points later during the campaign.

This looks really interesting. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. As an aside, do you think anyone actually searches "YOLO" or "swag" on the BnC? huh.png

Had to reduce the Number of Templar to fit them all into a Phobos since its 10 Person Limit. But, 7 Templar, Primus Medicae AND SIGISMUND will surely wreck just as hard as my Terminator Spam.

Thanks Black Cohort, for reminding me of this RoW. Flush 3500 Points.

Nice, will be very hard to deal with with all those 2+ saves msn-wink.gif

My group shot will have to wait, the light conditions were too poor last night. In the meantime I will leave these here, more can be found in my WIP thread just a click away in my signature msn-wink.gif

So, was going to post a little 'Before' Picture that had my whole list, unpainted, in various states of building but, during washing some of the pieces didn't loose all their release agent...

Therefore, in my paranoia, I decided to let them soak overnight :P

And here it all is post-paranoia and pre-painting.

3500

Of this pic, only the MK IV Ironclad, Chaplain Dread and 5 Cataphractii's aren't going to be used in the initial stages of the Campaign.

In the foreground, for the uninitiated, is a Spartan in its unassembled state. in the Background, 10 destroyers that I'll be using as Vet Tacs with HB in Suspensor Web (their missile launcher.) the spare bolt-pistol holding arms will make for great extra bitz since I'm giving them all bolters.

Only full plastic models there are the Land Raider Phobos (cuz its the only way to get it tongue.png) and a GK termy apothecary which will be a Primus Medicae stand-in.

Amidst the deployment zone of his grand-battalion, a Warsmith ponderously makes his way through the earthworks, his terminator armour's every step shaking the ground. As the reports stream into his visor's tactical feed, Radolf Gog surveys the erection of the defense structures and bunkers. He is content with the efficiency of the men under is command - no less is expected of the IV legion, great artisans of war all. The First Lieutenant appears at his side, confirming the final stages. Without looking away from the battlelines, the Warsmith addresses his second in command.

"Make ready Iossef, today we prove to our condescending brethren that the Fourth is a worthy legion. Today, we will show them all what it means to be iron within, iron without!"
