No Death Company as they can't exist without Sanguinius' death. But there will be some interesting stuff on how the Legion suddenly expanded at one point.

Im guessing that was when they found Sanguinius, from what we know so far (4 pages we got in the "Red Book" rules update) Blood Angels gene-seed is notorious for having a high rejection rate and a very narrow field of compatability. Its also been mentioned that the process of creating a Blood Angel is more painful than the other Legions. So im willing to bet that it was refined once they found the Primarch and used his blood in the ritual to stabilise the process, this would allow for a more rapid expansion of the Legion.

Yeah, I get the impression that we are going to take a more greco-roman feel rather than just Holy Roman Empire (ala UM). However the artwork is definitely "Sistine Chapel" rather than Grecian mosaic.

Will be interesting.

Just pointing out The Holy Roman Empire was not Roman. It was Germanic. The Ultramarines are definitely classical Roman Empire in names and culture used. If anything I'd say the Imperial Fists borrow some vibe from the Holy Roman Empire with names like Sigismund, etc. some Prussian stuff too.

I always viewed ourselves as some Greek, some Byzantine, and a lot of Late Medieval/Early Renaissance Italian city states feel. The Gothic period bigtime.

So May for Magnus? Cool! I was hoping for a more complete preview but it looks like we won't have to wait long.

Anyone get a chance to talk to Simon Egan about what's next, or any of the other sculpters about the Character Series?

Thanks to all providing updates over the weekend!

Magnus is done and should be on sale for warhammer fest.

Sanguinius maybeeee end of the year. After that the last missing Primarch - Dorn.

*goes back painting the third Alpharius model FW released already*

I've got a question or speculation regarding the size of the IX Legion. (everytime I say ninth legion I think 'Eagle of the Ninth' book)

Sangunius and other dramatis persona refer to them sometimes as the Brave Three Hundred, in this case meaning Companies I'm fairly certain.

This would place the BA legion at roughly 300,000 marines at the time of Signus.

Space Wolves Force sent to Prospero numbered 95-100,000 marines.

I'm just wondering comparatively what sort of strength the other legions would be at. As the BA were known for forming a more cohesive legion (referenced in Scars) than others.

Again I can't wait for more background and history :D

Speculation on what Angelus will feature?

Signus Prime is a lock.

Do you think "Passage of the Angel of Death" = Sanguinius and the IX Legion getting to Terra when no other loyal legions could? That is one of the great questions: if Big S and the BA were in Ultramar doing the whole Imperium Secundus thingy.....how were they the only ones* to get to Terra and not the UM or DA? This could really fill in that gap.

I bet we'll see updated Rites of War and wargear reflecting FW's comment that the BA were designed by the Emperor for "shock and awe."

I also am guessing that the Sanguinary Guard will make an appearance....hopefully properly reflecting their :cuss selves instead of the meh version in 40k.

Characters besides Sanguinius? Azkaellon, Amit, Raldoran? Anyone else? Meros?

*the White Scars make it as well, but A. they were on the other side of the galaxy B. they always did their own thing anyways C. they liked being on the fringes (literally and figuratively) and had a knack for being hard to pin down (by both allies and enemies). D. some of that story has been mapped out in some of the HH novels? (Path of Heaven?)

Can you tell me where you pulled that number from? More for my curiosity, I'm 95% willing to take your word for it :D

It's been thrown around a lot here in some places, lexicanum says Fear to Tread, but I'm nowhere near it to double check.

What I do know is that the Ultras are the biggest at 250000

I'm pretty sure Fear to Tread doesn't give a number having read it a few times. I'll do some more digging

Without getting into hard numbers (which seem to be fluctuating, based on what SW/TS players report from early copies of Inferno), I believe the IX Legion was also middle of the pack/slightly larger than other Legions. So if the Ultramarines are proportionately always going to be the largest, ranking 1st in size, and the Thousand Sons were 18th* with....well, 10,000 legionarries, then BA would be like 6th or 7th or so.

*apparently new fluff is saying that the V Legion (White Scars) was the smallest with as few as 7,000  Legionaries....but TBH, that just doesn't make any sense at all, especially considering that part of the shtick of both the Thousand Sons and Emperor's Children** was that they were the smaller legions that had to make up for their size in other ways (psychic shenanigans/emphasis on perfection respectively).

**apparently EC started out as one of the smallest, but grew to a mid-tier size based on Fulgrim's efforts.

No legion has that few. All of them except the TS have at least 60,000.

Here, these are the only ones that have actual numbers:

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Space_Marine_Legion#.UOSr7G9JNq8

Yea I was looking at the same source, but you'll note White Scars aren't given any numbers at all on that page. That's why it's a head scratcher. Any Legion (without some crazy X factor like TS) with that few could literally be taken out my an offshoot of any other single legion, so 7,000 for WS makes absolutely no sense at all.

Yeah I think it isn't on that sheet because there aren't any official numbers for them yet.

In the past all legions were below 10,000, but that changed with the HH series.

As an aside, according to Inferno, the TS now have way more than 10,000. So that number needs correcting.

BA weren't at 300,000 at Signus. They were closer to 120,000 or something like that.

Also, the Ultras were the largest and they only had 250,000.

Considering various tidbits and factors, I strongly suspect that number would be revised close to 150,000.

And the Ultrams actually have 270,000+ marines. Its 24th and 25th Chapters have double strength as Evocatii.
