Oh wow!!! That last centurion looks amazing! I dont like the spear, but thats really just my taste i guess. I just dont like the blade or the thought of using a halberd type weapon one handed. But all the other parts and thw pose is amazinng!
  • 9 months later...

So, after twelve months of post grad exam hell, and the awesome (but time consuming) experience of getting married and having a 2 week wine buying honeymoon, I have awoken!

I decided the ETL would be an opportunity to get some things actually painted!

My first vow includes One Legion Praetor (artificer, iron Halo, sonic shrieker, digi lasers, meltabombs, mastercrafted lightingclaw and paragon blade = 210pts), Legion command squad (standard + 3 chosen, 4x combat shields, melta bombs, 3x power weapon (lances) = 195pts) and a palatine Blade squad (prefector +4 warriors, power swords, jump packs, sonic shriekers = 225pts) to a total of 630 points.

Before pictures (magnetised parts seen also!)

I hope to get these finished (or near!) in the next 1-2 weeks so fingers crossed! They'll be followed by a reboot of my vice praetor, my assault squad and my chaplain. If i complete a second (HA! fat chance!) ill be aiming to get my Sic and vindi laser destroyer done....lets take it one step at a time yea....

Progress for the progress god!

Ive applied my mixed base coat of Naggaroth & Xereus, washed with Druchii violet, and just applied a light highlight with xereus - again with my airbrush.

I'm not hugely confident (or indeed competent!) with the airbrush yet, think it'll be brushes from here on in.

What do you guys think? any advice?

I think an edge highlight is next on the cards, then for the gold and silver!

OK I actually managed a lot of time this afternoon! (Sorry Handro, no WoT!)

Tried some edge highlighting - even on bits I'm going to paint gold or silver. Previously Ive been lazy and just used heavy dry-brush (....which is very obvious). I'm not sure My hand is steady enough or I'm patient enough yet but its a start!

Ideas/concerns/expectations? Advice?

Grey. Ah so more of a preshade? I tried some preshade with my tanks but it was all lost with first coats of naggaroth. Without other bling it's all a bit too much, hopefully it will tone down with some more colours. If not thinking a gentle wash to cover it slightly
  • 2 weeks later...

Moar progress!

Slow progress this week with a run of night shifts. Got the silver blocked out and highlighted. Grey for what will become white panels blocked out. Gold blocked out today too.

Needs wash and highlight of gold, white to be finished, cloth and eyes then details/touch ups.

So, no painting today but did some converting whilst watching Netflix on the sofa!

The tribune is, in my opinion, a nice model: head is a bit derpy and the weapon looks like it might have been different originally! Got a few different parts all magnetised, hopefully going to sort out more ranged options in due course!

Behold - I have actually painted some things! This also means my ETL Vow 1 is complete! Huzzah!!

Finally we have my Praetor - he is a re-imagining of my first praetor seen on this thread. Went with a helmet in the end, but the magnets are there in case I need...Legion Praetor (artificer, iron Halo, sonic shrieker, digi lasers, meltabombs, mastercrafted lightingclaw and paragon blade = 210pts):

In celebration of finishing my 1st Vow, I, Der H, vow One Legion Sicarran (two lascannon sponson weapons) to a total of 175 points. (not the biggest I know but time limiting factors etc - also Its been sat on my desk like this for months!)

Wow, I've missed days off without post grad exams....So much hobby time!

So after a day and a half I have completed my second vow. Behold my Legion Sicarran (two lascannon sponson weapons) to a total of 205 points.

Back to work tomorrow and a buys few days, however hopefully Ill get my 3rd vow done in the next few weeks...and with that in mind...

I, Der H, vow One Legion Vindicator (145pts) and a Legion Rhino (35pts) to a total of 180 points.

Great work brother, I love that Sicaran so much, and after its battlefield performance today, I want one! No, three! :laugh.:

Definitely the best painted thing that's hosed down my boys so far.

Now, don't paint that laser destroyer vindi too quickly now, I can't take the heat...

@Handro Haha, get your knight in the table brother!

I've ended up re-priming the rhino, and found my other two old ones, so delayed with painting my next vow. Hope to have purple done tonight along with some blocked out white and lead belcher...

Behold, some purple progress. Managed to get some time to base the purple tonight. My airbrush has been playing up so I spent 45 minutes cleaning it and it finally worked!

I decided to do my other two rhinos at the same time so Ill have three rhinos and a vindicator once Im finished!

I'm really feeling the hobby again at the moment. Looking forward tot he FW open day, especially after bagging a limited edition Age of Darkness army list. £10 for a black cover and metal corners...£10 to make it match my other all black books! Yes please!

Righty, two days of the wife being away has given me another big chunk of time to get these finished!

Vow 3 Complete:

One Legion Vindicator (145pts) and a Legion Rhino (35pts) to a total of 180 points.

So, just need to crack on with my next vow! Assault marines ho! Basecoated as well!

One Legion assault squad (10 marines, two power weapons, Melta bombs, Sergeant with power weapon and artificier armour = 340pts.) and One Legion Chaplain (Artificer armour, refractor field, sonic shrieker, plasma pistol, Crozius = 130pts) total 470pts.

Not much progress today - been at a rainy garden party! Did manage to get my pintle weapons finished up though. Two multimeltas and two heavy flamers for my weedy little rhinos...beware Handro, beware.

No vow progress to speak of in the last few days - had lots of house buying nonsense to get on with. The FW open day looms, and with it my plans for scouring era Crimson Fists - watch this space! Plans are also coming together for the new "Hobby Basement". The house we're nearly completing on is an old victorian semi with two basement areas - one for the required wine cellar, and the other has been generously donated to me by my better half as a hobby bunker/where the chest freezer will live....What is that lassie? A hobby den with ice cold beer!?

Anyhoo...some small progress today for my character series:

Asterion Moloc does have a lovely shield doesnt he...

...much better!

Its a piece I want for my terminator praetor, and (scale permitting) for my character series models too. I'd love to have a jetbike with spear and shield - Joust! but that's a pipe dream for another day.

Any thoughts on replacement iconography?

Maybe one of the brass etch III's?

Yea, I've tried to carve replacement 'feathers' for the Aquila under the horns but it doesn't come out well. I need to cover the engraved characters on the chevron too! I may also remove the crux and replace it with a jewel or similar easy-to-sculpt shape!

Awesome day out at the Forge World open day! Fourth time out to Lenton with Brother Handro! Always a great outing!

More opinions and some pics tomorrow. It for now an obligatory picture of the haul:

Limited Ed book, imperial fists transfers, warders (2nd box in order!), 4 packs of boarding upgrades, fists command squad, fists dread, kheres assault cannon, MKIV breacher drill (on order!) and of course some Phoenix guard and brass etch!

Something Crimson this way comes....

  • 4 weeks later...

So, In the nick of time:

Please find below my completed my fourth and final vow of One Legion assault squad (10 marines, two power weapons, Melta bombs, Sergeant with power weapon and artificier armour = 340pts.) and One Legion Chaplain (Artificer armour, refractor field, sonic shrieker, plasma pistol, Crozius = 130pts) total 470pts.

Ive just moved house and finished a run of ICU nights so don't have my lighting set up and only just can get some decent pictures but i think I'm happy (bases pending as I'm changing all my bases to fit new terrain!!)

Better Pictures will appear in my main thread once I find my camera in one of these many many boxes...My first ETL guys and Im so so happy! Great ETL folks! Same time next year?

  • 2 weeks later...

This is how the story begins...In a dark, dark town in a dark, dark street. In the dark, dark street there was a dark, dark house. In the dark, dark house
there were dark, dark stairs. Down the dark, dark stairs there was a dark, dark cellar. And in the dark, dark cellar some old friends hobbied...

...or rather had dreams of a great hobby bunker!

So, my wife and I bought our first house (Huzzah!), and clearly priority one was making a hobby space..."Darling...do you want the cellar? No, was that? Wonderful, Ill be out in 4 months...."

The only problem was that my new cellar is a somewhat untidy and poorly cared for victorian cellar...
Now the stone floor I Love! It was also full of some oddities...including a free (or rather mortgaged...) circular saw, and a wall mounted storage thing with THOUSANDS of screws/nails etc...

Needless to say we (Brother Handro and I) set about improving it....

The lath an plaster ceiling had to go!

Ah.... lets replace the lights to try and ignore the terrible mess we made...

That's better! Now I wonder what this poorly connected pipe is...

...that pipe might have been connected to the boiler....and about 15,000 gallons of water....So with a water crisis averted for the future...and lots of B&Q plumbing parts to fix the problem we now have a rather damp, but open and cleaned basement space! Next stop is replacing the ceiling with some form of either plaster board or hardboard panels, finishing off an extractor fan, wiring another plug and finally building a desk and 4x6 (expandable to 6x8!) gaming table!

More updates as they come!

So! Tomorrow is a day of ceilings! Should be tricky as Im on nights again tonight - thankfully off for the bank holiday!

So as a bit of light hobby before I go to work I thought I'd flesh out some initial work for my next project...it's hinted (strongly!) in my signature and will be fleshed out in a future post, but one of the key minis will be a connie with the loadout below (probably a different colour!

I've seen several conversions online of drills for connies. THe two most common are a straight swap with a MKIV dread drill or a leviathan drill - one is too boxy and one is too large. Certainly the easiest is the MKIV dread arm but I wanted the artificer look exemplified in the IF dread above.

So off I went with my knife and started with spares I had from a plastic connie. I wanted wanted to keep some key features:

...whilst adding features from the MKIV such as the piping (also seen on the IF) and obviously the Drill

So I started cutting:

SO far I have the shoulder pad, the elbow and the fist surround sorted.
Need to work out how best to install the drill fingers. Two options are:

VS
