The Sanctus Crusade - Sigismund!

Recommended Posts

Evening Brothers,

I have managed to get the base done tonight, I've attempted some weathering too which is always exciting.

I like the base you built for Sigismund. Is it supposed to be the wreckage of an Iron Warriors tank and its crew?

Thanks, earlier in the thread I mentioned that this is Sigismund during the siege of Terra.

To that end I have decided to make a mini scenario on the base where an Iron warrior has destroyed a BA tank before Sigismund gets vengeance for the Imperium.

Evening brothers, Work has finally begun on Sigismund!

I have only began base coating to try and figure out colours etc. but I would like your thoughts on a few things so far.

Warning: It looks very sloppy right now, try not to judge too harshly!

http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/Imperial%20Fists/20170408_154844_zpsvelyqyjm.jpg

First things first, I am interested in your thoughts on the shoulder pads should they;

- both be Yellow or only the right one?
- have a black or gold trim?

http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/Imperial%20Fists/20170408_154906_zpsecu6l0lf.jpg

http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/Imperial%20Fists/20170408_154925_zpscjnrvsks.jpg

Also what are your thoughts on the Gold filligre with the black, is it too Black Legion-y?
http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/Imperial%20Fists/20170408_154952_zpsg1oamfdz.jpg

And finally, how much yellow should I have on him? I was thinking of maybe swapping the yellow from one knee pad to the other.

Cheers for all thoughts and advice!

Edit: I have just tried out a silver and a highlighted black (grey) filligre too, what are your thoughts?

Actually, some of these are touch decisions...

Shoulder pads - I would leave it as you have done. To me it says, "Yellow for what I was, Black for what I will become."

Knee pad - "If" you are going to keep one pad yellow, then it should be the other one for balance. Unfortunately that conflicts with the above, so you might consider having both pads black.

Filigree - This is actually the toughest one. Silver doesn't work, not on Sigismund. Gold seems Ok, but then looks a lot like yellow (duh, because that is what it is"), so from some angles, it could just look like more yellow. I think what I might try is a very subdued bronze. Still yellow and "richer" than silver, but it would let you add a greenish patina to it so that it differs from your yellow...or, make it slightly redder, i.e. base bronze would have a red tint to it, then highlight with basic bronze, then a touch of silver for highlights. This would need experimentation, but you have the skills to pull it off.

That being said, when I do mine, I'm pretty sure I will go with a green patina on the filigree, but I don't think I'll have any remnant yellow on mine.

My two yen.

This is shaping up wonderfully.

More thoughts...one thing is bugging me on the base. The hazard stripes. Not that they are there, they just seem too thin and therefore there's too many of them. That may just be me, but it is a tad too busy and it keeps drawing my eye down, when I should be drawn to Sigimund's face.

Ok, two and a half yen.

Holy :censored: that Sigismund head! Awesome!

Thanks! One of my earlier posts has the head after GS'ing and then a fully painted mugshot from different angles if it interests you!

Thanks for your thoughts, always welcome honda!

Yeah I think I should keep the shoulder pads one yellow one black, what do you think of the trims though? I think they should be the same colour, but which colour that is is still a mystery!

Yeah I think I am going to swap the Yellow kneed pad across, it will make it look more balanced hopefully.

I never thought of bronze of the filligre... I might need to meditate more on this inside the pain glove.

Thanks for your input Re: hazard stripes, hopefully by the time Sigismund is fully painted in his proper colours then it won't seem as distracting! If not I can change it later.

Hopefully I can get more progress done soon!

I like the bronze idea. If one pad is black then the trim for both should be gold/bronze/burnished.

Thanks for your input, I have decided it should definitely be gold/bronze/burnished, but I haven't made up my mind which.

I've been looking at the metallic secion of the GW PDF (here https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/Downloads/CitadelPaintingSystem.pdf)

but it hasn't inspired me enough yet.

So I am onto Stage II of the greatest Legionary that ever lived and things are beginning to progress!

I fear that I am still nowhere near finishing him but things are definitely looking up. It is still a bit messy in places but

unless there are things I have missed, the whole of Sigismund has at least been base coated.

The most glaring thing with my pictures right now is that the tabard is contrasting with the black ALOT.

Hopefully by the time I have highlighted the black It won't be too bad...

http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah78/Btemp93/Imperial%20Fists/20170411_003843_zps7yhjhesa.jpg

I had an idea about how to do the Iron (now gold) Halo and as It wasn't near many other details I have already finished it.

I have also finally given the helmet a little love, very rough but I have now found my filigree colour because of how it has turned out!

cb14e8b8-b4b9-4b6e-9d22-9f3481295216.jpg

It might be a little difficult to see but I have decided it should be highlighted grey, I hope this won't make my contrasting tabard woes any worse!

I have just realised that I have yet another decision to make now, what colour should the eye lenses be!?

Thanks for your thoughts as always!

STAGE III

In the words of our founder "Nothing worthwhile is done without challenge".

A lot has been done since my last post, I still have some tidying up to do here or there and perhaps some highlights or washes.

But overall the colours as you see them below are their final stages.

I have TheOneTrueZon to thank for the inspiration for the sword, Molotow chrome ink is a very neat tool.

I will need to apply a second coat as I have no patience and it got a bit smudged, but I may just save that until the end.

Now I only have one final challenge to complete: the weathering and chipping effects.

Thanks for having a look as always, I hope you enjoy!

The use of off-black on some of these is rather splendid and your Sigismund is looking gorgeous. Especially the face. :smile.:

thanks, that was the longest I have ever spent on a face... this'll probably be the longest  have spent on one model by the end of it!

Good job on the helmet.

Thanks, It isn't finished yet though, I plan to add a long chip past one eye lens.

Stage IV

It has been incredibly fun working on this project and I think that I am largely finished with perhaps a few tweaks here and there.

One last set of picture spam, I know it must get annoying after a while.

I included this pic because photos don't really do the sword's shine much justice. It's Sigismund's sword, It has to look good!

This is my second time using chip effects and I hope they look alright.

Any advice/criticisms or bits I may have missed are completely welcome. I'd hate to find a big glaring mistake after I think it is finished.

Don't worry my crusade is still growing and I am saving my BT to make a few vows for this years ETL!

Happy Crusading!

Unfortunately ETL appears to not be happening this year.

Doesn't mean we can't run something ourselves like Firepower did last year!

That is a real shame, I suppose it means that I can work on my models sooner then!

Seeing as that is now the case, should I;

- work on some HH IF legionaries

- Paint my custom Assault Terminations

- Paint some Xenos

Finally decide how to base my Templars

- Go and have a rest from painting

Your attention to detail is most impressive.

Thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it!

I have been dreaming and plotting and planning about this model for such a long time, since before I even had the model I was collecting things here and there, pictures and ideas etc. After receiving Sigismund in the post, it has taken me exactly 3 months for him to be completed. When you spend that long on a project, seeing him finished makes it all worthwhile.

Now imagine how long it'll take to make Dorn once his model is complete!

By the Emperor that's beautiful. I hope you don't mind, but I shared your work to the last wall FB page with a link here. Everyone needs this in their life.

No of course not! That is what my crusade is here for, to spread the Zeal! I am glad you enjoyed it!

  • 2 months later...

Alas, I awake from 3 months of Stasis to find my crusade thread to be corrupted and my 40k irrevocably changed!

Apologies for my absence of service brothers, I will try to repair the damage and paint some models, but if you cannot wait till then/ are new and would like to see some templary goodness; my Photobucket account can be accessed from here (although the :censored: 's only let you view them as a thumbnail):

http://s1377.photobucket.com/user/Btemp93/library/?sort=3&page=1

P.s. Sigismun is in the IF folder; probably the best of the bunch. Also, can anyone suggest a new image hosting site that isn't as heresy-filled as Photobucket?

To Improve upon the 8th edition situation I have been watching the Helsreach videos whilst making a list for a 1250 point training battle for tomorrow. I can write up a Battle report if anyone is interested.

It's good to be back!

Cheers guys,

@canadian_F_H I don't want to add more demand to the B&C server as they are pricey to run so somewhere like Imgur sounds promising.

That is a good point... I'll look into imgur myself I suppose... tho I like browsing the bnc gallery by tags for ideas...

Alas it appears I have dozed off again...

Can anyone submit suggestions for a new image hosting site? It'll take a little while but it would be nice to restore the Sanctus crusade to it's former glory.

State of the crusade:

Although largely unchanged, I have purchased a few templary bits from puppetswars recently and picked up a box of the primaris reavers. If anyone has some templary primaris I'd love to see how they turned out. My main focus is probably going to update my crusade so that it all has one theme so repainting and deciding on a basing theme are critical to this.
