DimDim
Nice! I like the purple/black twist, very different from the normal yellow black. The only thing I would do is add more bronze to things like the shoulder pad rims. but thats just because bronze is my favorite. Brother Dallo
Yay. This thread made it to two pages. :D Thanks for the comment DimDim. Glad you like the purple. I have a vague fluff justification, which I'm working to flesh out, but in reality, I just wanted to do things a little differently. I hear you on the bronze thing. It's actually a mix of gold, and brown, but I guess that makes bronze. I wanted to keep the embellishments to a minimum, since the IVth aren't known for being excessively fancy and decorated, but I may add a touch more bronze later, if people think I should. I've got a few ideas on what to do next. It's likely to be either building and magnetising my ebay contempor, adding a marine from another legion on "exchange" to the IVth or just paint another tactical marine. You guys have any preference? Feel free to guess at the legion the "exchange legionary" comes from. C&C welcome. DimDim
Feel free to guess at the legion the "exchange legionary" comes from. IS IT A FIST? its totally not a fist........ EDIT: My real guess is Blood Angels. I think you mentioned that these guys are loyalist iron warriors, so the exchange marine is probably loyalist. If theyre loyalist then who is a better opposite to the IW in scheme and warfare style than the angels? Brother Dallo
Interesting suggestions DimDim. You are however going to have to wait to see whether you are correct or not. Feel free to make other suggestions guys. Brother Dallo
Got a small update for you guys, to show you that I am still doing stuff for my Iron Warriors. http://i.imgur.com/vkEhIpZl.jpg I picked this guy up from ebay. He was a little battered, and obviously missing his base (and his kneecaps ) but he was pretty cheap, and I'm confident I can fix him up. I then proceeded to try to rip him apart, but I realised that he had been pinned together. Eventually, after several long stints in the freezer followed by immersion in hot water, and the tactical application of excessive provocative violence I arrived at this point. http://i.imgur.com/2XAT8Rul.jpg I plan to magnetise the cannons so if the fabled plastic Heresy stuff ever turns up, I can switch the weapons out. A 60mm base is being kindly donated by my DV Helbrute. I'm considering posing him so he's about to stomp a fallen (Dark) Eldar warrior, but am open to suggestions. C&C welcome. Brother Dallo
+++From Will cometh Faith+++ http://i.imgur.com/dICC5wfl.jpg?1 Cloth and Iron It was on Sanskryt that Brother Ithiel fell. Sanskryt’s natives had resisted the rule of the Imperium of Man for too long. It fell to the illustrious 1st Legion to quash the rebellion before it spread to neighbouring systems. The war, if the systematic extermination of any and all opposition could justify such a title, was over quickly, culminating in the Satrap detonating hidden explosives to bury her palace, her household and the advancing legionnaires, rather than allow herself to fall into the hands of the Dark Angels. The Legion moved on swiftly, for the conquest of the galaxy in the name of the Emperor leaves little time to mourn the fallen. Ithiel had been in the palace when it collapsed, but a dying legionnaire shielded him from much of the falling debris and he was simply buried, where so many of his brothers were crushed, their MkII power armour fatally compromised by the rubble and secondary explosion. It would take over three terran weeks for him to extricate himself, millimetre by agonising millimetre, in cracked and broken MkII plate. He emerged to find his brothers gone and the city’s long range communications array destroyed. It would be another two weeks before he found a space capable skiff. With no warp capability, he made for the nearest Astartes outpost: The Iron Warriors of the Khaladine Nexus. As you can (hopefully) tell, Ithiel is not an Iron Warrior. I was keen to explore how the IVth interact with the other Legions, especially in light of the Heresy. I think having legionnaires from different legions give lots of interesting writing, modelling and painting opportunities, so one or two more may pop up to swell the ranks of the Iron Warriors. As it stands, Ithiel is still WIP, being held together with blu-tac. The pose is mostly decided, but I need to clean up the area where his combi plasma used to be. I've smoothed the gap over with GS for now, and will either fill the gap with something (most likely) or attempt to sculpt new robes for him. The bases is a place holder as I'm upgrading to 32mm bases. http://i.imgur.com/vJmLtSgl.jpg?1http://i.imgur.com/mftJL0Sl.jpg?1 The conversion work was pretty simple. It just required cutting off the combi-plasma, sword blade and shoulderpad, then giving him a chainsword to replace his powersword. The model is nice in that the gauntlets could represent ornate MkIII, and the feet represent MkII. Everything else is covered by robes, so it didn't take much to 30k-ify him. I'm sure many 30k players have a spare helm and shoulder pad around, so it's a cheap and easy conversion to replicate. C&C welcome. Brother Dallo
Just a quick update showing off the WIP base of my contemptor. Behold a (soon to be smooshed) Xenos wallowing in the dirt, where he belongs! All "sculpting" is done using miliput, and was basically me smoothing it around the base until it looked pretty. http://i.imgur.com/31GL9SFl.jpg The silly chap appears to have forgotten his leg. He'd forget his head if it wasn't screwed on... I added some ooze coming out of the pipe. http://i.imgur.com/obZbahql.jpg I tried to make furrows from where he'd dragged himself along. I think they look decent. http://i.imgur.com/M2cp55ll.jpg The little empty space will be a puddle of some description. http://i.imgur.com/DDacUqSl.jpg Just a bird's eye view. C&C welcome. Brother Dallo
Glad you like it. I'm quite happy with how it's turning out so far. I glued on the sand yesterday, so I'm just waiting for the glue to completely dry, then I hope to get painting started on Friday. Thanks for stopping by DimDim. Brother Dallo
Just a small update. I got my twenty 32mm bases from GW today. My order had a Champion of Khorne wristband. Hopefully get to use some of these over the weekend. http://i.imgur.com/rD04cD9l.jpg Dallo Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302878-ferrum-intra-in-the-footsteps-of-giants/page/2/#findComment-3976137 Share on other sites
DimDim
I really need to order some of those. Do they suit the marines well? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302878-ferrum-intra-in-the-footsteps-of-giants/page/2/#findComment-3976664 Share on other sites
Brother Dallo
Yeah, I think they suit pretty well. I ordered twenty on the assumption that the GW plastic heresy stuff was coming in May, and would have 32mm bases. However, that's not looking as likely as it was a week or two ago. So this might work out to be an expensive mistake in the long run if I want my guys to be consistent. Having said that, now that there's a bit more room on the bases, I plan to put a bit more effort in than simple sand and paint. I believe Dantioch's IW are on 32mm bases, if you want to give them a nosy. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/303144-bitter-iron-a-ivth-legion-wip/ I'm looking forward to seeing you get all of that lovely new IF goodness from Forgeworld painted up DimDim. I should get a bit done on the contemptor's base tonight. Got it sprayed yesterday. Dallo Edit: My thread now has the HOT tag. Brother Dallo
My Iron Warriors have received reinforcements from eBay. I'm pretty chuffed with what I got. I bought these as Ravenguard, so it only seemed fair to put their pictures up before I strip them and break them apart for parts. http://i.imgur.com/7JpmjPCl.jpg 12 marines in MkII http://i.imgur.com/1HNcHTrl.jpg 7 marines in MkIII http://i.imgur.com/wJjjoqcl.jpg 9 marines in Mk IV http://i.imgur.com/aJZphRLl.jpg 3 marines in Mk V and 2 in Mk VI / VII http://i.imgur.com/KtIXZQyl.jpg Some gubbins and resin bases. I now am the proud owner of thirty odd 25mm resin bases, which is a shame, since this army will be on 32mm. If you're interested in the bases, drop me a PM and we can talk. C&C welcome. Stercus
Looks like you've got your hands full there Dallo! That's a big load of resin, are they all going to be Iron Warriors, or will you be slipping in a couple more from the "exchange program"? Brother Dallo
Thanks for the comment Stercus. Yeah, the majority will certainly be Iron Warriors, though I foresee a few Ravenguard to make use of the upgrade bitz. I'm not sure how I can justify them hanging out with my Warriors, but we'll see. They'd be in Mk VI, which means it's after Isstvan, and the resupply from Terra. I can't see them being too friendly to Iron Warriors, even if they are loyal to the Emperor. If anyone has any suggestions. I'm all ears. Brother Dallo
Quick question guys. What colour are this guys hazard stripes? Spinsanity
They seem to be a very 'hot' purple to me, almost red... Although looking at it in Photoshop, the tint comes up as red, with tints ranging between 2 and 8 on the Tint/Saturation/Darkness scales... Dantay VI
You need to adjust thewhite balance setting on your camera. I recently discovered on mine, settings for taking pictures with tungsten lights and fluorescent lights. Took all the yellow/sepia-ness away and put the colours back where they should be. I see the stripes as red, but it is bordering on the purple. Especially depending on the angle of my laptop screen. Also the yellowing is losing the deteils on the hrns and gold(?) armour plates. It looks really well painted though. Brother Dallo
Thanks for the kind words guys. Much appreciated. @dantay_XV The pictures were taken with my iPad, so I'll have a much around with the settings. Now to prove that I haven't been totally idle. My uni work has been eating into my painting time significantly, but I've started the reclamation process on my eBay purchase. A long stint in the freezer followed by immersion in hot water has weakened the superglue enough for some parts to come apart quite easily. Those that resisted earned another stint in the cooler. Here's the current usable bits. http://i.imgur.com/j7eOoFql.jpg I'm considering investing in a spray gun to lay down good base coats, not a proper airbrush, basically just a simple paint hose. Can anyone recommend a good model? I've heard good things about Badger, but any advice is appreciated. What about canned air? Most people say that it's a waste of money, and you should go for a compressor. Any thoughts? Thanks guys. Brother Dallo
Two updates in the same day? You lucky people, you. Here's a very WIP picture of my first apothecary. He's just tacked together, so things are subject to change. I was toying with the idea of magnetising the narcathium, and a powerfist, so I have a counts as for Narik Dreygur, if I ever fancy expanding my army with R0B0TZ!!!1!!!eleven!!!! Brother Dallo
I wouldn't expect any significant updates in the next two weeks. Term has been brutal, will continue to be rough for the next few days , then I'll be away from my models for a bit. Life's been hectic, but I've managed to do a bit of 30k stuff. I've done a bit more with the ebay lot, splitting more of them them up for parts. The main thing is that I invested in a can of Gun Metal spray, literally days before I saw that GeeDubs was releasing leadbealcher spray. Typical. An well. I'll be off on study leave, which should free up some much needed painting time. I plan to enter at least one unit for the ETL, but it depends on how good the spray is. Thanks for asking. This log isn't dead by any means, mearly... Resting. How are your fists coming along DimDim?
