Tyrants of Olympia - Horus Heresy Iron Warriors

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the comments folks. Slight update from the past few days. Managed to get around to finishing the first 10 man tactical squad over the weekend. Although they were reasonably fun to paint, I'm kind of glad to get them out of the way now and move on to the next part of the army...the Forge Lord (pictures up shortly).

@Mr Lucifer - the method for the bases is below:

Base: Rhinox Hide

Drybrush: Martian Ironearth

Drybrush: Jokaero Orange

Drybrush: Tau Light Ochre

Drybrush: Ushabti Bone

The silver looks great, but the thing that pops to me are the hazard stripes. I love the way the yellow has been painted, and it really enhances the whole scheme.

@Brother Galfridus - Get started on your Iron Warriors. We need as many as we can to take on those yellow armoured pansies msn-wink.gif

Now the tactical squad is complete, work can begin on a slightly more interesting model...

Because Iron Warriors are pretty keen on cybernetic implants etc., I thought the Iron Hand's Iron Father model would function well as either a Warsmith, Forge Lord or Siege Breaker. I originally planned to run this as a Forge Lord alongside Castellax, but due to Independent Characters not being able to attach to Monstrous Creatures, it's likely Ill run him as a Siege Breaker attached to Tyrant Terminators.

I've been toying around with two loadouts, pictures of the blue tac'ed versions are below. If anyone has any thoughts on which might be better all round, please do share.

Iron Warriors Forge Lord finally finished. A Blood Bowl and 40k competition caused a slight delay but he was pretty fun to paint.

Thanks for the comment @Dosjetka :) Glad you're enjoying the start of this army.

Up next will probably be the second set of 10 tactical marines. As boring as they are compared to the other things I'm looking to get for this army, they are a necessity unfortunately. Included in this next lot will be two power axe/artificer armour sergeants. I'm also tempted to put together two nuncio vox marines purely for aesthetics purposes. Although my gaming group aren't too anal about wysiwyg, I might magnetise the backpacks.

Okay, a small update...

This week I started working on the second ten tactical marines. These guys will be mixed into the previous ten so I thought it best to add a few alternative poses/bare heads to increase the variety within the squads. Even the ones I've put together are missing a few parts...Forge World and Bitzbox orders are supposedly in the post.

First up are the two sergeant models. These both have the standard wargear of power axes and artificer armour. The axes are from the Imperial Fist special squad and with a bit of minor converting one was moved to the opposite hand.

These two marines are examples of the alternative poses I've put together. The right one is pretty self explanatory...jibbing someone with his combat knife. The one on the left is supposed to be firing his bolt pistol because his boltgun is out of ammo. The magazine has been removed from the gun and is lying on the ground next to him.

I've still got a few extra poses to come up with yet. Two marines, though, will be vox operators, but I'm thinking of a marine throwing a grenade, one holding his helmet and another changing his magazine. The rest at this stage might just be bare headed guys. Any suggestions are welcome though. happy.png

@Fursty nice use of the olde armour patterns for the Seige Masters. I like the "yer gonna get stitched" motion of the axe bearer on the right of the photo.

Top notch

Oh yeah...where's the forge Lord's axe from???

Really cool miniatures, furstyferret! Especially your Forge Father is really impressive. I might add that model to my 40k Iron Warriors, now that I've seen it painted in IW colours :)

Thanks for all the comments folks, I really appreciate that you're liking this army so far. biggrin.png

@Andvarr A - Thanks man. The axe is from the World Eaters's Red Butcher models. Iron Warriors are supposed to be quite brutal in close quarters fighting, so I thought this axe might fit the bill a little better.

@Flint13 - Cheers dude. It shouldn't be a problem to do, but the goal is to get these guys done before the end of the month. The missus has said she'll get me a Sicaran for my birthday, so that's up next. msn-wink.gif

@Kythnos - He's a really nice model, I'd definitely recommend getting him. Really fun to paint as well.

My Bitzbox order turned up today so got some heads attached to the guys I was working on last night. The guy holding his helmet has come out a lot better than expected. The helmet was hollowed out and cracked down the front. A matching score was added to his chest plate and a cut put in his mouth, which will be bloodied up when painted. He's got a real "You broke my :cuss ing helmet!" look about him.

Another angle...The shoulder pad, pack pack and gun are just blutac'd at the moment.

These are absolutely gorgeous. Really nice work on those hazard stripes! Looking forward to seeing these latest minis painted, you have some good looking kitbashes and poses there.

Which vallejo brass are you using, by the way? Also, do you mind if I ask how you paint your bases? They set the models off perfectly. (I ask because they look very similar to my own, but I'm not quite satisfied with my method, so I'd be fascinated to know how these were done - I'm pretty sure whatever your technique is, it holds the key to unlocking whatever I was overlooking...)
