Tyrants of Olympia - Horus Heresy Iron Warriors

With the completion of the second ten marines done earlier this week, I thought it time to mix them into the previous batch and do a little series of group shots. This was the first time I'd actually done this and it's quite nice to see everything next to each other...and to see that the painting difference between batches isn't that noticeable tongue.png

The Sicaran has gotten under-way as well. I don't know how other people have found their kits, but mine required quite a lot of filing down to make the central sections fit neatly. There were a few minor casting errors, so green stuff was needed to even some of them out.

I think this will be painted to almost match the version that Forge World has put on their website. I like the placement of the hazard stripes on theirs and the black panels allow transfers to be added, but also break up the vast amounts of silver.

I've been struggling to think of other ways I could individualise this vehicle through the use of accessories (other than purity seals), but I'm a little stuck for ideas. I'd love to hear some suggestions from you guys from past experience or things you've seen other people do. happy.png

Excellent work here, I'm not normally a fan of hazard stripes, I use them very sparingly on my IW, but you've done a really good job here, even though they are positively festooned with them, the don't look silly as they often can.

Gonna be watching this thread.

@Blindhamster and SicSix - Thanks guys. happy.png

@The Fabricator General - Thanks. I think Iron Warriors really need the stripes to break up the monotony of silver.

@Grandmagnus - Thanks lad, you're too kind.

@Olis - Cheers mate. I can't wait to see them on the table top now. I have a friend with a Night Lords army and another couple of guys in the area have heresy as well, so it'd be great to get a game.

@Macloren - Thanks dude. I know how you feel about hazard stripes. I tried to limit models to around two areas of stripes, through fear of overdoing, like you say. The sergeants each have three sections done, but the process can eat up time as well as look silly. I like what you've done so far with your army as well. I'll be keeping an eye on the thread.

@Kizzdougs - Cheers man, really appreciate the comment smile.png

Just a wee update this week. Progress has been made on the Sicaran. The weapons have all been magnetised because, having access to shrapnel rounds, I can kinda see the heavy bolter options being used at some point. A couple of tow hooks were added to the front just to add a bit of detail. I couldn't work out what that circular feature on the turret was, but it makes a great mount for a radar. tongue.png

The main armour silver has been applied. I toyed around with the idea of using my airbrush for this part, but having a limited supply of Boltgun Metal, I was a little scared by how much an airbrush can use up even when thinned. I chickened out and opted for super thin layers done with a brush. It seems to have achieved a nice even finish anyway. The next stage is the first wash, then actual metal will be applied before a second wash.

Ah beware the Sicaran made of tinfoil!!!

Only joking, looking good and a nice smooth coverage on the steel. I would hope you really weather the tracks and add some colour here and there to break up all that silver.

Looking at your previous model I know you are going to totally kill this (in a good way)

@Dosjetka - Thanks man!

@Dantay_xv - Haha, I wish they could be made from tinfoil. Are your Space Wolves Heresy era? It would be great to do a batrep sometime down the line.

The Sicaran's washes were done during the week, which literally ate a night each waiting for them to dry. Washing a model of this size isn't easy when handling and trying to achieve a non-streaky finish. Highlighting of the silver has also been finished, although it's not as visible under the lighting. The yellow panels for the stripes were marked out last night and I was planning to do them today until I realised the masking tape I had was too narrow. That's set the hull back a little, but there's still plenty to do.

I'm still a little concerned by the sheer amount of silver on this model, although once the dust weather has been added to the tracks and adjacent panels, it should help break it up a fair bit. Chips and liquid run-off should also help with this.

The bonus today has been the picture of the upcoming Iron Warrior etched brass. Although it's a little annoying it didn't come out before I started, it can be added afterwards.

Those lenses are lush!!!

do not worry about the amount of metal, you have going on. Weathering, chipping etc will sort that out and wen you do the tracks a different shade of metal, you'll be sorted.

What masking tape are you using? I go with 18mm stuff and if too narrow make a slight overlap. Stick to the model and with a sharp pencil mark your panel lines. Remove tape anddraw the stripes, Re-apply tape and using super sharp knife cut out where the hazard stripes will be. Paint em in and highlight, peel and done :)

Either that or apply the 3mm stud in strips and hope for the best

Looking doss though
