Rossjk's Relictor Space Marines

I was wondering if someone would notice those nasty mould lines (but hard to miss!). Most of them got the scraping treatment but a couple did slip through.. but yeah i'll fix those up thumbsup.gif

It is always the same with mould lines, sneak little buggers and some won't even show up until you have some paint on.

Looking forward to seeing some more stuff.

Thanks for the kind words guys smile.png

They've had their first outing - a 500 point quick game with just basic troops and no HQ's (against my Necrons), they tabled the 'crons with little effort cool.png

Need more scenery for the game so I'm boxing on with more of the CNC workshop kits also...

You can't say they had a fight and not include pictures of said fight tongue.png

That wooden terrain looks lovely though, where did you get that from?

I did manage one pick beforehand msn-wink.gif its not too clear but a few of them are based already - this is how the marines will be done also

this is where the scenery is from - https://www.miniaturescenery.com/

they're based in Australia so not sure what shipping is like to us/uk. Very nice kits they fit together perfectly and amazing what they can do out of just flat sheets of mdf

I wasn't happy with my chapter master, built from the standard SM commander parts he felt too generic and inferior to the captain... was about to sell him off but then thought - why not convert him!

Here he his built straight out of the box & primed:
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p218/typicalaquarian/Warhammer%2040k/Space%20Marines/Space%20Marines%20WIP/Original%20Commander.jpg

Found him a larger version palatine blade (counts as relic blade), nice bulky fancy sternguard pauldrons, bare head and a chaos pistol holster to keep him relatively wysiwyg. Need to fix the end of the pommel though. Not sure if I should keep the iron halo how it is or if I should cut out the centre and mount the sides directly onto the backpack

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p218/typicalaquarian/Warhammer%2040k/Space%20Marines/Space%20Marines%20WIP/Chapter%20Master.jpg

This gets him working in a lot better with the whole army theme and the captain:

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p218/typicalaquarian/Warhammer%2040k/Space%20Marines/Space%20Marines%20WIP/Captain%20and%20Master.jpg

so... should I cut the halo down or not???

By some kind of fluke I stumbled upon a badly made marine for sale on Trademe (like ebay), awkwardly posed and all sorts of greenstuff joints poking out.. what caught my eye was the spear he was carrying, looks like a large chaos spear of some kind - maybe from WFB? can't find it anywhere online. Very out of character for a space marine but perfect for my army smile.png

Anyway, I jumped on the opportunity and bought the model for dirt cheap. He arrived today and I pulled him to pieces, cut the spear height down a little and re-posed him using some spare bits.

Ended up with what will be the command squad standard bearer. The spear is purely for the coolness factor (ie-not a legit weapon) and combines with the backpack banner to count as the chapter standard... very much in keeping with the captured chaos relic theme cool.png Powerfist will be the weapon he uses in game...

Hi Guys,

I'll be updating less frequently over the next little while, have a new baby daughter to tend to biggrin.png

...but still finding some time for bits & pieces, here's my Chaplain all made up - counts as Chaplain Cassius. The custom crozius is inspired by the screaming flail and he uses a sternguard combi-flamer to stand in as Infernus. Chaos pistol holster, Grey Knight legs, Sternguard torso for the rosarius, and Khorne pauldrons for the skull. I forget where the head came from..

All the troops are built now!

First off congratulations! They take up so much hobby time but are very much worth it.

Second off that is a nice update, looking good on the chappy. Interesting to note you have see through bases on some of your guys? Have you thought about the stance and what he is actually doing in it?

Thanks guys,

Interesting to note you have see through bases on some of your guys?

Got some of those clear bases second hand when I bought a bulk lot of bases online, don't think they are GW origin but otherwise identical

Have you thought about the stance and what he is actually doing in it?

Not the best angle for the photo (flail looks much larger than it is), but I was going for more of a rallying pose with the way the maul was being held, with the right arm down so the skull pauldron can be seen better and not hidden behind the backpack. Also wanted him to be a bit spread out for more presence on the table.

Did a quick bit of painting on my tactical sarges - the light coloured tabbards were bothering me, too many colours and were making the scheme a bit too busy. Changed these to black, much happier with this. Has had only one coat and needs a little more work though to tidy them up. I've decided to run with black base edges (sand/grass will come later)

so yeah, something didn't feel right with the chaplain - the maul head on the flail was completely redundant so I lopped it off, and I'm making him just a standard chaplain now with a chaos bolt pistol.  The combi-flamer will swap over to one of the command squad guys...

Had my first attempt at a metallic powersword - Painted one half dark grey, other half light grey then drybrushed silver over. Happy with this technique, very simple but effective smile.png

Pauldrons need to be darkened, went a little overboard with the drybrushing on them!

Command Squad Veterans are done now.  Used a similar method on the swords but in blue (with the lighting it doesn't show up too well in the pic)

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p218/typicalaquarian/Warhammer%2040k/Space%20Marines/Space%20Marines%20WIP/Command%20Veterans.jpg

Have also painted the company champion, went for a red blade & brass hilt on the chaos powersword so it stands out from the standard (non-chaos)weapons.

Next on the to-do list is the standard bearer...

You have really found you stride with the conversions, it is so hard to create the effect of loyalist excommunicate marines but I think you have nailed it.

1 suggestion, with a lot of grey/black/metallic why not paint the relic weapon blades in a bright 'evil' colour to really make them stand out (pink for slaneesh, green for nurgle etc etc)

Thanks for the feedback and suggestion Ratboy, nice idea but i'll stick with just khorne colours for now (red, brass, black). I'm a big fan of consistency which helps a whole army look better.

....well that and also I don't have any good pots of the other other colours right now msn-wink.gif

Cheers Eyes smile.png

Apothecary done now, he started off with all light grey shoulders but it stood out way too much from the others - so went with the standard black + livery on his left and black edges on the right.

Wasn't sure about the backpack light lense colour so open to suggestions (and I need to tidy that up too, bit too much wash on it)...
