The Emperor's Shadows Space Marine Chapter. Based on models painted by Victoria Lamb for the 5th Edition How to Paint Space Marines book. Note: Due to the amount of 'detail' in this sheet, it is not scaled to the usual A5 paper, but rather the half sized A6 paper (roughly 1/4 the size of US Letter paper). -
Hi all, Started this guy a couple of months back, got busy, left him half finished. Came back today and cleaned him up - the eyes are bad, the painting is pretty rushed, and I could have cleaned more mold lines, but at least he's done and I'd say "Tabletop Ready". I originally started him as part of my "Crimson Castellan" chapter revamp, however due to there already being a novel fleshing them out that overrides what I'd already done (before I found out it was a thing), I'll likely be just changing it to a new chapter that wears red. Honestly I could just say it's a "Loyalist Thousand Sons Sorcerer"... but that would be Heresy! Bits (sorry if I don't remember them all): - Dark Angels Hooded Head - Deathwatch Cloaked Back - Tzeench Sorcerer Chest / Arms / Wood-Effect Shoulder - Severin Loth Skull/Scroll Shoulder - Mechanicus Glaive-Head (replaced Sorcerer Staff Head) - Sternguard Veteran Legs - Old Metal Ultramarine Base (I think it was Calgar's?) - Backpack Sternguard Veteran (or some Chaplain/Sargeant/Important Marine) He's a Librarian of his chapter who guards their Librarium; and like the other Librarians of his chapter he doesn't fully wear his armor blue. Would need to make a lore reason for this, but mainly because I'd started painting it red before I remembered Librarians were mostly blue! Converted Tall Scale Space Marine matched up against Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man for scale to give an idea how the height adjustments fix many of the scale issues with Space Marines such as short legs, short torsos, and long arms. -

Tall Scale Space Marine with an assault grenade launcher. This Marine isn't supposed to be strictly canonical, nor to represent anything in particular on the tabletop. I just thought it would look cool to have a Marine carrying some kind of auxiliary specialty weapon and loaded for bear. Turned out that it didn't work quite the way I'd envisioned since I pack so much gear on these guys. But I think the overall aesthetic is there of a transhuman killer armed to the teeth. Armed with Cerceus Pattern Bolter modifcation. Unique bits used: Black Templars head (now available in the standard tactical kit since GW seems to steal every other idea I have, heh). IGuard grenade launcher with two bolter handles added. Chaos Marine right shoulderpad with chaos iconography filed off and skull bent to hang at a natural angle. -

This is my WIP Thunderhawk. I got it off ebay,(its kind of a rescue). Small backstory-- I had one of the original metal Thunderhawks from GW mailorder. I new a guy who owned a hobby store where we played and he had four of them. I bought one in trade and then after a decade sold it on ebay. I then used the funds to buy this one. I like this one because its bigger, constructed better, and looks leaner than the older one. It just has far more spacemarine feel to it. THe kid that had it before me didn't get very far with it. But he did manage to get glue in a few hard to fix places and glue things in the wrong spots. At anyrate, I had reservations about putting this thing together for so long because it is soooo big! I have no where to put it... nowhere to store it... and no way to carry it to and from... But I have been off work for some time now and had a completely free weekend. What you see in the pics is the result. I went crazy with magnets, and I'm not sure this can legally fly on an airliner anymore. I came across a pack of super N50 disc magnets and decided to use them to put the wings on the body. THEY STOW!!! Then I just kept going. The attack wings, the canards, the nose weapons, even the tail comes off and stows. I even put magnets in the pilot seats so I could paint them. Then I got the cool idea to put a plasma storm battery on the magnetic nose mounts, and then, why not one on each side!!!! I have to stop at some point and start painting this thing. If any one has any suggestions for painting black highlights on a black ship. I'm all ears. I can't decide if I want to highlight with blue/grays or straight shades of grey. All of my stuff is pre-heresy DarkAngels black. When we started playing, it was with rogue trader and you all remember the color pic of the legion spacemarines. THe Dark Angels were black and had the red stripe down the Mk. 6 helm. I thought that looked awesome and ran with it. And I've never seen a reason to change. GW's rewritting of the fluff over the years has pissed me off, but thats a rant for someother time. But also on that note, I really like the additions to their histories over the years. I'm a big fan of Chapter Commanders Astelan's account of what happened to Caliban to Chaplain Boreas and how it has affected the first and second companies agendas in the novels. -

Rear View. I used parts from two different Space Marine Bikes, as well as spare bits from a Tactical Squad, the Ravenwing Battleforce, and some plastic tubing. Still needs some work on the back, maybe some wires, and a lot of green stuff patching. -
