The final 'zing!' to a stunning figure – now show us a shot of the whole group, stat! :smile.:

+EDIT+ Quoted figure to bring him across and avoid 'page break shame'.

Thanks chap.

I'm curious about The Fellowship of the Jackal. Anubis was the Egyptian God that ushered departed souls into the afterlife, so one wonders if this will play into that somehow. Anubis was also depicted a lot in black, and I have seen some of the Inferno art showing tanks with black markings on them...I'm kinda tempted to incorporate this into my scheme somehow. Not sure but I like the Jackal head transfers. I'm going to add them to the Rhinos next so I'll see what takes at that point.

Thousand Sons Necromancers?

Sounds cool with the Rhinos, and that one Land Raider with black detailing that FW showcased a picture of looked fantastic.

Amazing, i am very jealous. Do you mind posting how you did the banner transfers? I have tried multiple times with Alphas transfer and they always come out looking awful. I can never get them to look natural

@betrayer41 - thank you very much! I'm pleased with him :-)

It took me ages to get transfers right but I do it this way:

  • Gloss varnish the area you're applying the transfer to.
  • Soak the transfer in water for 30 seconds
  • Apply the transfer
  • Let it dry and then give it a coat of Micro Sol. It's a solution that melts the transfer to the area. Apply it to the centre of the transfer and spread it out, which should remove any air pockets.
  • Let it dry and repeat this step between another 2-5 times, depending whether it's on a flat surface or shouler pad
  • Gloss varnish over the transfer to give it a protective coat
  • Then spray it with a matt varnish to take the shine off it. Et voila!

One thing to also note, I use enamel oils on my minis after I've done the basecoats and highlights. It stops me having to do laborious shading and layering steps. I gloss the whole mini after applying any transfers, then I coat the whole mini in an oil. I leave it for 15 minutes or so, and then use a cotton bud diped into white spirits and drag it across the mini. This will clean the oil off the mini, but make sure you don't wip it from the recesses. By dragging the bud across the mini, it also gives it a nice grimy coat which gives it a more weathered look and can darken the bright colours somewhat (probably why it's hard to tell I use a Mephiston Red spray base initially!). This also takes more of the shine off the transfers and adds to that natural look.

I know it sounds complicated, but it's way easier than I make it sound :-) I hope that helps!

Slowly working through adding transfers to my minis. Started with the banner (might not have been executed brilliantly, but I was rather keen!). I've added transfers to my 2 Deimos Rhinos, added a few to my Sicaran Venator (though think it needs a few more perhaps) and also spruced up my Sorcerer in Terminator Armour. Next up will be the rest of the Command squad.

I've started adding the golden Jackal transfers to some of the minis, specifically the Command Squads rhino. No idea of there background until Inferno is released but I'm gonna have my company be based around The Order of the Jackal.

Next up, the aforementioned Command Squad and Praetor in Artificer Armour, and a couple of Rapiers. Then I'll look at my Contemptor-Dreadnought and Veterans.

@Nightmare84 - haha thanks!

The steps are as follows:

Prime the mini white.

Spray with Mephiston Red spray.

Basecoat any other colours (gold etc). Highlight these where necessary.

Apply any transfers.

Paint any Armour chips on, and edge chip various points of the mini.

Gloss varnish the entire mini.

Once dry, coat the mini in an enamel oil.

Leave to dry for a good 15 to 20 minutes, then wipe away the oil off the mini isujng white spirits and a cotton bud. Drag it across the mini which will clean off the oil but doing so will leave a nice grime look to the mini. Just make sure you leave the oil in the recesses which will save you the trouble of shading and layering the main Armour colour.

Apply after any weathering powders etc.

Give it a quick blast of Matt varnish spray and your done.

Hope that helps!

  • 3 weeks later...

The Great Transfer Update continues. Been slowly working my way through adding transfers to my Thousand Sons that I had already painted. First up is finishing my Cataphractii Praetor/Sorceror. Evidently, applying them to the right leg wasn't quite tortuous enough so I cut the tiny transfer hieroglyph blocks into strips and applied them individually to the left leg so he is now completely finished. Huzzah.

I added transfers then to the fronts of the Quad Rapier Mortars and the crew's right shoulder pads (there's a lovely transfer of the Prosperine Star with the Heavy Support symbol in the middle of it I had to use), hieroglyphs onto the cartouche sections of the Mortis-Contemptor's legs and finally some Prosperine stars to the front casings of the Jetbikes. I'm nearing completion now, just a few additions to the Command Squad, and adding transfers to my Veteran sqauds and they'll finally be done.

Next up, well, it's the Burning of Prospero, and my box is turning up tomorrow which I'm proper pleased about. Really looking forward to painting up Ahriman and the Tartaros Terminators, plus there's a sneak photo at the end of the latest tank in my arsenal, a Laser Destroyer Vindicator.

Here's my take on my favourite non-Primarch character in the Heresy series; Chief Librarian, badass Sorcerer, the Big A himself, Ahzek Ahriman. Pleased with how he turned out, though not the most astounding paintjob and my camera isn't doing me many favours. It's a lovely miniature and just shows hpw far GW have come with their plastics over the years. I've got another Ahriman on the way, who'll be getting an Achaen helmet and probably a variation in the colour scheme.

Here's a few pics of him, with his command squad and with the cabal of Sorcerers that I've painted so far.

Next up, well...I quite enjoyed painting the dead Pup on his base, so might give Greigor Fellhand a whirl.

He looks great! The more muted/toned down reds you use on your 1k Sons definitely allow aspects such as the eyes, metalwork and scarabs to really 'pop.'

Curious, but did you (or anyone else) notice the tiny Tzeentch symbol on Ahriman's right leg?
