Its been a weekend of epiphanies here. Various things coming together, and I've been sorting my hobby stuff out. I think I've become incredibly unfocused over the last few weeks. I havnt really stuck to one thing for a while now and I seem to be haemorrhaging money with no real progress. I've decided to get back to my Scars for a while; I love them, the scheme stands out way more than the Ultras or Thousand Sons, and I'm actually happy with them, unlike the others. I'll get back to them shortly for my Shattered Legions, but decided to get the Scars back on track, especially as they'll go all get rules in a few weeks (huzzah). They'll be the core of the force, so I've gone back and touched some bits up and started gluing and painting the rest.

 

Here's a few snaps of the army so far, and what's next for them. I've got a Praetor on Jetbike, 6 Jetbikes, a Consul-Delegatus, Stormseer, and 5 Veterans painted so far. Next up, I've got 5 more Vets and a rhino, a Javelin Land Speeder, a Sicaran and a further 5 more Jetbikes (need to find one more at the Weekender to round the squad out). I've also got a Venator and 10 more tacticals to glue together.

 

That's a good start, and once they're done, I'll get back to finishing the Sons (though will likely do them at the same time). It's more trying to focus my hobby and not just have a collection of random models at this point. Which means I'll have to add some extra bits to the Scars (transfers, change their bases to match the other legions etc) to tie them all together. I'm kinda thinking about leaving the Ultras for the time being. Not sure what will happen with them.

I think your Scars are fantastic, I'm very glad you've turned your attention back to them.

 

There hasn't been any mention of your Salamanders though. Are we likely to ever see them again?

A quick snap of my Sons so far. I think what I'll actually end up doing is sticking to just these and Scars, and leaving the Ultras for a while now. I think what put me off my Sons is how dark the red actually is, the lighting really makes them look a lot lighter than they are. Still, they look nice against the ivory of the Scars, which helps!

@checkmate - many thanks! Yeah I might get back and do a few sometime in the distant future, but as it stands that seems unlikely. I've been spreading myself a bit thin of late, and they're so similar to my Death Guard, I fancied a change.

They are gorgeous mate. And the colour schemes of the scars and sons are almost polar opposites so a lovely contrast

@The_Gorgon - cheers chap. I rink that's the thing I like the most (besides them being two of my favourite legions); that they look like they could be part of the same army, yet totally different. Once transfers come out for both as well, I'm tempted to make a symbol that is a hybrid of the two legions a la the Allegiance story in the Seditions Gate anthology novella.

Looking ace as usual. Love the combination of white, red and gold in both forces to unify them but also keep it diverse.

 

I think the Scars and 1ksons would make a formidable tag team as it is, I remember reading something about Jaghati and Magnus being bros?

@Charlo - It's pretty much why I'm sticking to the two; it affords me (eventually) the variety in Legion rules and units, but they also look awesome together with the reversing of the Legion schemes. Just need to rebase the Scars tto be the same dark grey now.

Yerah, Jaghatai, Magnus and Sanguinius were responsible for the Librarius programme, and Magnus was the only Primarch that Jaghatai was close to (alongside Horus, that is).

I understand the issue with red and I think part of your problem is the basing. Basing a dark red on a dark grey compounds the dark issue of the color shade. I'd honestly recommend rebasing your Sons to match the desert base of you Scars. That bright desert base will help the red of the Son pop, making them instantly appear brighter and sharper.

@Athrewas - that's an idea actually! I had based ten to match the grey on the Ultramarines, but seeing as I'm jettisoning them it makes sense. I'll try one out and see how it works :) thanks for the idea!

Not a particularly interesting update I'm afraid. Rhinos aren't the most glamorous tank going, but I wanted to get a feel for red on a slightly larger scale than marines. It's all going towards my Shattered Legions force (pretty much Thousand Sons and White Scars, with the odd few stragglers from other Legions mixed in). I've also rebased the Thousand Sons from the darker grey to a more mid-brown.

 

I'm now back to painting the Jetbikes and Rapiers I was working on before the Rhino.
