+Betrayal at Calth: Conversions and Ideas for the New Box+

Recommended Posts

@Ursa Doom, very inspirational! Glad to see a bunch of us are doing SWs as this will push me to keep working on mine.

Glad to hear it. :)

This thread in general is a goldmine for inspiration.

I hear that! I regularly lurk around in this thread to steal ideas soak up inspiration for future pIrojects, not to mention gawk in awe of other people's skill.
Just seeing how people do stuff gives me a great idea how to do things my own way.

Also, here is a group photo. I only have like 25 Marines, 5 Terminators and 1 Contemptor left to paint before I buy another box.

So these are a couple of photos of probably my favourite marine from my Calth builds. I'm going for a World Eaters force and decided to use a right arm from the rampager kit, along with a mark II assault left arm. This gave him a bit more of a dynamic look, and also left his right arm 'shoulderpadless' and unarmoured, which fits the WE theme nicely. Nothing majorly special, but I'm really happy with the pose and look of him.

The other minis are fairly straight forward, but I ended up flogging the contemptor. I couldn't stand the static pose of it...

Mostly kitbashed but some small conversions. 1st Space Wolf veteran squad.

Hey bro I wonder if you could tell me where you got that helmet with the topknot from?! biggrin.png

Hey there. It is the hair off of a Space Wolf head cut off, filed down and carefully glued to the top of a Mk.IV helmet from the BAC box. Now I have a bald SW head to use as well.

Converted up a Primus Medicae with Thunderhammer in Cataphractii. Pretty simple overall, changing the head and removing the combi bolter can do a lot for changing the direction of the pose. Also, the chaplain crozius is just too cool to be a plain power maul!

Heres my conversion of the BaC Chaplain into Nomus Rhy'tan of the Glorious XVIII wielding Darkstar Falling

Full of like for this. Especially having done one of my own (it's in this thread somewhere!)

Must ask: is there a reason why you decided against a skull helm?

Also what colours are you planning to use?

So awesome! I was thinking of doing that since I have 2 of these guys. I like that changing one arm actually changes the pose a lot, and who doesn't want a Primus Medicae in terminator armour,

Thanks, it was your conversion that spurred me to have a go myself. I thought the skull helm was a post Hersey construction, to represent the mordant emperors wrath (If I'm wrong please correct me) so hence the MKIII helm. Colour wise, HH 2 indicates that Sallie chaplains wear black so run with that, with green, bronze as accents...and not to forget flames and drake scales.

Hey, that's a great compliment to know that something I did has inspired another brother!

I think it is really unclear from what I read when exactly the skull helmets came in, can argue it either way I guess. Depends when you are setting "post heresy" as a time I suppose.

Yeah mine still isn't finished yet, need to get back to him at some point... That's interesting, I based my colour scheme on an image I found which I think may actually have been Elysius? Where his armour looks silver-black. I will see if I can find it again...

EDIT: Uploading image... if I recall correctly, it is from Horus Heresy: Collected Visions (2007)...

I should of consulted visions of hersey, I'm starring at the same image of that sallies chaplain. I'll run with the narrative that his skull helm is in the forge for its annual MOT and service. Thanks for the clarification.

I've been lurking in this thread for some time now, which has given me quite some inspiration, so I wanted to show the first BaC marines I've assembled for my soon-to-be Imperial Fists army.

Some of the marines need a bit of greenstuff as I've modified them slightly: the vexilla and one of the marines have one leg cut and swapped for more dynamic stances, and the vexilla has the chaplain extended arm with a GK hand, and the tabard is from the terminator centurion. I should get the other three done soon, and I've started to convert tthe two HQs, I'll try to upload some WIPs later.

The three last members of the squad, including the sergeant (again, lots of blu-tac as I'll have to sculpt some parts, now that I have the whole squad assembled the next step will be sculpting)

The sergeant has the left shoulder pad, part of the coat and the helmet of the chaplain:

And here the two characters, in an early WIP phase. The chaplain is now a legion champion, and I'll magnetize it to swap between lighting claws and sword + shield (which I may use as a Sigismund proxy):

And the praetor, which will be equiped with thunder hammer and shield, but I intend to magnetize to swap with other loadouts such as paragon blade, combiweapons, choom, etc.

Don't pay attention to the bits, as some or most of them will be altered or changed altogether, they are there as stand-in while I get the right ones to help me visualize the final idea wink.png

@ Elzender: Nice Imperial Fists! I particularly like the Sergeant's half-cape conversion, it looks really unique and classy. smile.png

Thank you guys, glad you liked it. I wanted to use the chaplain's ornated backpack, but I felt that the full cape was a bit too much for a sergeant, and I wasn't sure I could trim the cape cleanly, so I thought "why not?". I must admit that it looks better than I thought, makes a certainly classy sergeant, which coincidentally fits this squad's theme (this will represent a Great Crusade/early heresy squad, while others will be from late stages/Terra, with extra mud, scars and damage tongue.png
