+Betrayal at Calth: Conversions and Ideas for the New Box+

Recommended Posts

Here are a few I did the other day for my Imperial Fists.

Trooper Brannagh, Trooper Thawn, and Master Sergeant Arno Slade of I Grenadier, Company A (Line), 284th Storm Battalion, VII Legion

I haven't posted the other two guys in the squad so far since they don't use any BaC bits beyond grenades, holsters, and pouches, but you can see them and read some of my army fluff in the link in my signature below.

Lots of Awesome stuff in here, great use of the Betrayal at Calth Set guys!

@Ursa Doom: Your wolves look amazing. I would love to have a have a game against such a beautifully modeled army, really top notch stuff man.

I realized that I forgot to share my Thousand Sons Terminator Delegatus:

Okay Athrawes, only one question before I get in fan mode:

Please tell me the exact recipe of the white cloth around your spear. How did you paint it. From step one to the last step. Whixh colors. Which thinning ratio...everything!!!! Exactly the color and style I need for my veterans.

Now Fanmode on:

Woooooahahahaahhahaahaj that is simply a stunning piece. Damn. You become better and better. I remember your first minis here and now that are worlds between....maybe you should redo all old chars fir the Lightning Bearers. I bet they will gain a lot from you actual skill.

Man...those sons...awesome...

So I started trying to convert the Contemptor, I really didn't like the stock pose. It's probably the most extensive conversion I've done to date (generally I just kitbash as opposed to convert). It's just blutacked together atm, what do you guys think? The head was about the only one I could find that wasn't tiny (I dunno if it's too small still), but I think it looks okay?

I would like to turn the chaplain into an apothecary to model the new WE character Gahlan Surlak...I think i will use the bare head from Khârn as the head and work out an axe head for the crozius...any thoughts on how to work in a narthecium?

Just replace the pistol arm full stop with the narthecium arm. You could also cut it off just below the elbow pad and do the same with the narthecium arm and put that on there, and get really crazy dremel out the flat hand on that arm and replace it with the ever so popular pointing hand!

People also asked before how I painted them and this is kinda how I do it.

After basing them with black I paint on a layer of Vallejo's 75.155 Heavy Charcoal, then I drybrush that with Vallejo's 72.050 Cold Grey, then I carefully highlight the edges with Army Painter's Ash Grey and after that I wash them with Army Painter's Dark Tone ink. Afterwards I mix a bit of Heavy Charcoal with Cold Grey to smooth out any surfaces of the armour that looks too dark.

The black parts is Citadel's The Fang washed twice with Dark Tone ink.

The brass is Citadel's Runelord Brass painted with a layer of Citadel's Hashut Copper.

The red parts is Vallejo's 72.141 Heavy Red. I mix in a brighter red with it for highlights and wolf emblem.

For the skin, first I do a coat with Vallejo 72140 Heavy Skin, then I drybrush with Vallejo 72.003 Pale Flesh, after this I wash the skin with Vallejo 73.204 Fleshtone Shade, after it dries I highlight areas I want to bring out (such as the nose, forehead, cheeks and etc) carefully with Pale Flesh again and do another wash. I might also also smooth out some areas that are a bit too flushed with thinned down Heavy Skin.

On the Praetor I also put on a couple of dots of Vallejo 72.044 Dark Fleshtone on the scalp for livespots to make him look old and grizzly.

Finished my dread conversion, only the claw arm is blutacked (maybe should've left the gun arm off too, hopefully it's not too hard to paint). I think the pose looks a bit off from the side but it's much better than the stock pose imo. What do you guys think?

That's just fantastic. I'm working on Wolves myself, and that's inspirational.

Thanks. I still have some finishing touches to make it look slightly better.

See? You can make good looking Wolves without going crazy! One wolf standard, a kraken tooth chainsword (or whatever it is), a beard, and the right paint job and it looks great!

Yeah, I do love minimalism with Space Wolves and I want to avoid making them look too much like straight up barbarians.

I broke down and got a B@C box to reinforce my Word Bearers ZM force. I wanted them to be well on the path to damnation, so they've got a combination of Chaos Raptor and generic CSM bits mixed in. I'm pretty pleased with them so far, I've got one last Despoiler squad to build... I think the Contemptor is my favorite so far, only because the model as is just looks absolutely horrible. Still got a ways to go on all of it, but here you are:

Hey, thanks. Your stuff is pretty great too. Sorry for not replying back earlier. I completely ignored the text in your post because I was looking at the stunning model you posted. Some times I can't belive how much of a scatterbrain I am.

Maximvs gave me an idea. I might model my second Terminator Praetor to have a spear made out of the Terminator Chaos lord's sorcerer staff and be based on Odin. Although, I think I will put this project on hold until Space Wolves get rules, just so that I may see if they get any fantastic wargear that makes me wish I saved the mini.

Slapped together some more Word Bearers using B@C. Honestly, I hate the Praetor model, so this was kind of an experiment to see if I could make something cool, and if not oh well. I think he came out pretty cool. Needs more work, but he's a start. The Chaplain was pretty straight forward. Also, the last squad of ten Despoilers.

Reaver Lord with Halo Blade.

Is it okay if I say that I was expecting this.

It's a plasma sword from Halo, I think, thus the joke.

Just remembered this thread. I'll make sure to post some of my B@C conversions either tonight (if I have time) or tomorrow.

Since blood Angels are now the assault cannon legion I was playing with how I am going to make these glorious experimental weapons, this is what I've come up with.
