Oh damn!!!

The Terminators look great. Excellent use of the Witch Elves hair (edit: I just saw that you used the tails from the High Elf Reavers, not Dark Elf Witch Elves' hair), and nice shoulder pad tutorial

Thanks Kizz, I think I'm starting to get a feel for the red now on these guys (It's still time consuming but I'm enjoying it more and more. I'm still struggling with making good press moulds so that I can add all sorts of nice little details without sculpting them by hand. Do you have any tips, oh master of press moulds?

The terminators look great. I just think the "horse"hair decorations should have a more contrastig colour, maybe white. BTW where is that bit from?

I definitely understand what you mean, but I was trying to match these as close to the artwork as possible, which meant red plooms (they are meant to emulate the red plume Magnus wears I believe). The bit comes from the HIgh elf Elyrion Reavers, it is their horses tail haha.

They look gorgeous! I knew that helm would fit those models! :smile.:

Thanks man, yeah the new upgrades kits are really growing on me, now that I've been able to play with them and paint them to my likely they have a lot of uses.

Beautiful. Terminators. I had exactly the same idea with the helmets, nice to know it works before chopping them ul

Great minds d@n. It's a simple conversion but I think it is effective at making these Cataphractii stand apart.

Did you name Ezarah after George Ezarah aka the Budapest song...?

Those termies are smashing. As soon as I saw them I thought of the artwork. Keep at it!!!

Nope, I named him after my cousin. And thanks for the praise, I'm trying very hard to emulate the colors and stylistic designs of the Visions artwork.

Good job man! That clear red is a godsend and I'm glad you decided to do the metallic over the pastel color :smile.:

I can't wait to get in a battle report against these guys....

My bad guys are going to kick your badder bad guys dead.

Nice egyptian touch on the backbanner

Thanks, I'm glad you like him. I just wanted to give that vexilla something more.

Even though they are fleshy, I approve of these conversions!

Fleshy? I'm glad you like them.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Can't think of any other word for your army so far. And I'm with you on the minimal white, my Sons don't have much either but a lot more gold.

Thanks friends. In the artwork it goes both ways, gold or white. i know FW have pretty much settle on gold for their too, but I just love the contrast of the white and metallic red. I'll be using the gold trim on all my veteran, Terminators and Characters though.

Love the terminators, especially the plumes jutting off their backs a'la Visions.

As to your question about the white, I think they could use a touch more. I know there's a few images in Visions where several XVth Legion Terminators have white robes and loincloths, whilst the image showing Magnus flanked by his bodyguards has them with brown loincloths instead, as per your Terminators. Just a thought.

Yeah, i'm still going back and forth over adding more white to the Cataphractii. I think for the time being I'll hold off on tweaking them until I can see what they look like with the white Legion transfers on their shoulders, and also see what FW do with their terminators.

These guys have easily been some of the most satisfying miniatures to model and paint. I don't think I've ever knocked out a full troops choice this quickly. Moving on with the project, next I'll be finishing the Terminator Command Squad and a 6 man Plasma Support squad.

I'm extremely proud of these guys, and as always I'd love to hear your thoughts on the project!

Edited by Athrawes

They are incredible, the almost Pearlescent effect is gorgeous, to the extend between you and Betrayer41's AL being something I'd want to perfect for the Drowned.

The light grey bolter is a lovely touch to help break up the model. I for one cannot wait to see what you do with some other units; Breachers, or Seekers.

And especially look forward to seeing what units you put out; although I do have a soft spot for Rotorcannons

Do you have a plan yet for the army? One of the most inspirational armies out there, even its in a proto stage just yet.

Now I need to say something: Awesome job!

They look perfectly. I really enjoy your minis. Although I'm no expert in painting, etc. I really do like the slight metallic look of them.

Did you already mentioned how many of them you will model and paint? A competitive army or just a couple of different minis of each and every type?

Seeing a whole squad of them together is something else!

You're taking Thousand Sons somewhere they've never been before with this colour scheme and that's great!

Just hope the rules do them justice when they're released, that's why I've put off doing a TS Project until we see them. I'd expect them to wildly different from the standard legion army list.

I've managed to finished a few support Legionaries and work on a few characters.

This is my WIP Terminator Delegatus. The idea was that he is a Pyrae, so lots of flame and phoenix motifs on his armor and weapons. Do you think he looks too flashy for a Delegatus?

On to responses!

Thanks for the encouragement Hesh, I can't wait to see you try metallics on your Drowned!

For the army, my goal was to build and paint a 2000 point force by October/November, when I hope Inferno and rules for the Sons will be released.

The current list that I'm shooting for is:

HQ:

Terminator Delegatus with Command Squad

Librarian in AA

Damocles Command Rhino

Troops:

2X 15 Man tactical squads

6 Man Plasma Support Squad

Fast Attack:

3x Javelin Attack Speeders, with las-cannons and Hunter seeker missiles.

Heavy Support:

Sicaran Battle Tanks

Proteus Land Raider with Explorator Web.

FIre Raptor Gunship

It may not be a super powerful list, but it has units that I think would be fun to paint as Thousand Sons, and should at least give me a nice dynamic core to the army to expand upon once rules have been released.

Now I need to say something: Awesome job!

Thanks man! I'll be trying the scheme on a bunch of different things, but will be shooting for the Above 2k list to start out.

I'm currently reading "A Thousand Sons", thanks for a lot of good mental images of the TS Athrawes

I'm glad you like them, that book is always worth a reread.

I know the feeling of putting them off and I know that forgeworld has said they will be different from other Legions, but I just can't imagine them not being able to take tactical squads, command squads and Land Raiders, so there doesn't seem to be any reason (at least to me) not to start and build a core army. That way, you have something to play with when the rules come out, instead of taking a few months after the rules to build an army from scratch.

And an army shot with everything as it stands at the end of January, two and a half weeks after starting the Project:http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/i327/nickfayette1/e0c830f5-597f-415f-9db4-dd2521884ed0.jpg

The Delegatus looks perfectly flashy. I mean, a Delegatus is supposed to be an emissary of their Primarch himself.

Really like the orb of fire in the power fiat, once he's fully painted up its going to look (even more) fantastic.

So I was giving some thought towards what might make a cool theme for the army.

I've heard a couple people say on different forums that one of the most "un Thousand Sons" Army builds would be siege theme.

But picture this:

A Thousand Sons siege company.

Your army is deployed with Corvidea Overseers predicting where enemy artillery would land and so you fluidly reposition your own artillery to avoid the enemy shells. At the same time, Aethenian artillerists use their tuetelaries to pinpoint the location of enemy emplacements, in order to lay down inhumanly accurate counter battery fire.

As your Aethenian guided artillery begins to suppress the enemy positions, you order your troops over the parapet and out into no-mans land. The crossing is still hazardous but your Legionaries are able to reach the enemy trenches safely under the cover of Raptora Kine shields., defelecting the remaining incoming shells with telekinetic ease.

The moment before your forces reach the enemy trenches, your Pyrae Legionaries sweep their redoubts with psychic fire, burning alive those foolish  enough to stand between your onrushing legionaries and their goal.

enemy is in disarray and you are one step closer to the worlds compliance.

It's just a thought I had, but it seems at once at odds with the TS but at the same time a perfect use for their special talents.

Siege theme?

Never thought of that before, but it really sounds plausible.

As the XV consists of just a handful of companies, it suggest itself that they are more specialized than most of the other "we win through mass and brutality" legions.

With this thread in mind, I really would like to build either a SW army or a TS army. Sadly (or luckily for my purse).... I got no time for that.

I think I recall a passage in the Thousand Sons about Pyrae having the ability to control and manipulate automata, such as Robots - so you could certainly add some mechanicum siege robots, which would be pretty cool! Their pyramid on Tizca was of course guarded by the powered down Warlord Titan Canis Vertex!

A siege Company would be a very novel idea, it certainly wouldn't feel like an Iron Warriors list. The great thing is the Legions are so big that somewhere, there must be an Iron Warriors fast attack force, a White Scars heavy tank squadron and even World Eater devastators!

Great thread, always happy to see an update! The Delagatus would (almost) look pimped out enough to join the III Legion.....

It's just a thought I had, but it seems at once at odds with the TS but at the same time a perfect use for their special talents.

I smiled and nodded, because that's the exact theme of my TS force. :)

The only thing hampering me is that both the Praevian and Master of the Signal are non-compulsory HQs. For shame, but I'm looking forward to your take on the concept.

Over here I play up the angle of the company tasked with walking the fine line of laying siege hard enough to crack fortifications, but not too hard as to preserve the sought-after repositories of knowledge held within. Aka, they are not really best friends with the more scholarly types of the legion...

While I love banners, I dislike the idea of Terminators carrying banners, it just feels like any banner they are carrying is going to get wrecked since they fight in cramped spaces or at the center of a massive battle. So for my Terminator standard bearer, I opted for more of a Legion Relic/stave. I love this piece from the High Elf Mage kit, and thought that it made a suitable Legion icon for the Thousand Sons, IT has a nice visual symmetry with the Legion symbol of the White Sun, but also is a dragon eating it's own tail, an Ouroboros which is what the XV Legion symbol will become post heresy.

What do you guys think of the standard? Yay or Nay?

With the completion of these warriors, I can show you my finished Plasma Support Squad and Terminator Command Squad:

Yeah, I'm the biggest fan of the Betrayal at Calth Terminator Character model. He is fine for a one off, but the pose is so wonky and his army is so chunky that he is not really my taste. When I started this project though, I knew I wanted to make a terminator Delegatus and figured I could test my self by trying to convert the model and make it more interesting. Hopefully once you guys see the painted version, you'll like him.
