The Red Sorcerers of Prospero: Exiles of Osiris

I love this thread, it is really hard to resist the allure of the XVth... I doubt I will once the Prospero book hits.....

I really like the vehicles, but am inclined to agree that the sheer block of red needs breaking up. I've seen gold and/ivory used to great effect on the panels - i'd be tempted to give the sicaran some gold on the drivers compartment, and maybe a few panels here and there.

That said, the stripe looks great, I'd give consideration to putting on the javelins to help tie them in more; it could be a company marking of sorts.

Check out this blog for what I am talking about with the vehicles....

Thanks for all the kind words guys.

So, since todays newsletter said that the New Thousand Sons Contemptor was coming soon, I thought I'd share with you the conversion of the Betrayal at Calth Contemptor I made for my Sons.

Obviously it was inspired by the upcoming Thousand Sons Contemptor. It was done pretty quickly so that I could fit a Contemptor into my list, but I'm honestly pretty pleased with him. The painting is still being worked on but the main body and legs are nearly done. I need to work on finishing the arms which have been magnetized to swap out with the FW Contemptor when it arrives.

As always, I'd love to hear what you think of its current status.

The scarab behind is Green stuff, the wings in front are from the Chosen of Asuryan Helmet.

The wings were clipped off and repositioned, the little pyramid in the center was green stuff to connect them.

Models look great as always, seeing as you've got one of the best metallic schemes on this forum I thought I'd come to you for advice.

What varnish have you been using to seal your models? I'd been using purity seal on my AL and I tried to apply some transfers on them today and the solution took a load of the paint off, so although I like the finish of purity seal it's not doing it's job.

Thanks for any advice.

Love the Contemptor, bro! Personally, I'm not a fan of the FW TS Contemptor (the detail on the torso looks really rushed and poorly done) and I definitely prefer the details that you've added to your B@C dread. Keep it up :tu:

Thanks for all the kind words guys, I will have an update for you in a few days about some PIP and the general direction I'll be taking with the XV Legion.

@Phosis T'Kar: Funnily enough I haven't varnished these models yet. I plan too, but I've been holding off as I try to figure out the best way to do it. The Finish on the metallics have a beautiful gloss that I love, it comes from the medium FW uses with their Clear Paints. To preserve that, I'm thinking of using Vallejo Satin Varnish through my airbrush. The problem is That I don't want the whole model glossy, I want to keep the white, bases, bolters ect. matte. I'll probably end up using the satin varnish, and then just paint on the matte varnish to dull down the areas I mentioned, but it sounds reallllllly tedious so I keep putting it off.

Osiris

Former Captain of the Thousand Sons 10th Fellowship, "The Lord of Silence" Commander of the Eclipse)

A warrior-Mystic Born of Terra, sworn to Prospero, Osiris was a gifted Astartes of the XV Legion and a Veteran of the Unification wars who first rose to prominence during the Saturnine campaign; a natural  affinity for void-based theaters allowing him to subdue the corsair fleet of Kuras Dhal and open the doorway to Saturn's inclusion in the Solar unification. For these deeds, Osiris was gifted command of the Eclipse by the Emperor; a sleek and stealthy relic-vessel of mankind's Golden Age and the one-time flagship of the Tyrant Dhal.

During the early years of the Great Crusade, the Eclipse and her compliment would gain notoriety among the scouting fleets and the Rogue Traders Militant, ranging ahead of the expeditionary fleets, at the leading edge of the growing Imperium. This distance would see the portion of the Legion under Osiris' command left largely unaware of the flesh-change afflicting the greater portion of the XV.

When the Flesh Change made it's self know to Osiris, it did so with a vengeance. During the campaign to clear a series of astroid strongholds in Epsilon Octanus System of an unknown Xenos presence, an altercation with a Coven of Xenos Psyker constructs instigated a rapid destabilization of the gene-seed of the Thousand Sons Legionaries serving alongside Osiris. It is only due to the quick intervention of Solar Auxillia Under the command of the Rogue Trader A'lar, the kept the conflict from turning into a route. This timely intervention bought Osiris time enough to personally Destroy the Xenos Psyker constructs, saving himself and forestalling further degradation of his Astartes.

At the missions end, Osiris and the warriors he led had been devastated, leaving a mere handful to survive the ravages of the Flesh Change.

The Discovery of Prospero and the XV gene-sire Magnus would see a profound change upon the Legion. Osiris, reeling from his forces devastation from the flesh-change, or perhaps the loneliness of their time spent in the unexplored frontier beyond the Imperium's borders, would delve into the culture of his father's world, and of his new Prosperine brothers. Devouring the knowledge of the cults of Prospero, Osiris' skill at arms and aptitude for Psionics would see his star rise within the legion such that when at last Magnus reorganized the XV, Osiris would be granted the rank of Captain and entrusted command of the 10th Fellowship.

The disastrous Kamenka Troika Campaign would See Osiris' Star wane. In the same two year battle that saw Apophis Captain of the 5th Fellowship fall, the 10th fellowship would bear the brunt of Legion casualties, such that upon campaigns conclusion, the 10th Fellowship could only muster a pair of shattered company formations. The responsibility for this defeat,  Magnus' disbanding of the 10th fellowship, and the Legion's reorganization into the Pesedjet, was largely placed upon Osiris.

While nominally Osiris retained the privileges of his former rank as a Captain of Fellowship such as a place in the Rehahti,  his favor within the Legion was ended. Given command of the 10th fellowships remnants, Osiris was banished from Magnus' side and sent off to the far flung 7th expeditionary Fleet, to once again push back the darkness beyond the Imperium borders, away from his Legion.

This would See the Legionaries under Osiris far distant when the call was made to muster at Prospero following the Edict of Nikaea...

(The face obscuring cowl is an unusual embellishment for a Prosperine cloak. Of note is the clasp, which bears the Skull sigil of the Rogue Trader A'lar)

(Here Osiris can be seen armed with a Chogorin Power Glave, named a 'Rising Moon Blade' in several dialects of Mundus Planus. This perhaps shows some unique bond with the Astartes of the V Legion.)

(Osiris carries an eclectic assortment of non-standard equipment. Of note appear to be potion flasks, a personal grimoire, and a device of possible Xenos Origin connected via cabling with his armor. The sigil of the Dragon Occult found on his breastplate is believed to be associated with the void-combat specialists of the XV Legion.)

(His Armor Appears to be of an early power Armor template, perhaps including some  pre-unification design elements)

++++++++++++++++++

This is a work in progress of another Character for my Thousand Sons, I'd love to know how you like him compared to my first Thousand Sons Librarian.

Also, this is my first attempt at crafting some lore for my Thousand Sons Legion force, just to help me put them into perspective.

In addition to your thoughts on the fluff/miniature, I'd like to get your input on a few details:

I haven't decided on a psychic power/ which Cult he would fall under, right now I have an Athanean Owl sigil hanging from his belt, but that is just blu tacked and can be removed. What kind of psyker should he be?

  • Corvidae: Precognition
  • Pyrae: Pyro Kinetics
  • Pavoni: Biomancer
  • Athenean: Telepath
  • Raptora: Telekine

Also, as of right now he has no first name. What would be a good name to pair with Osiris? Does he need one?

As always, thanks for the letting me know what you think!

Another superb model Athrawes, not that I've come to expect anything else mind. Really looking forward to seeing him with some paint on.

Might be worth considering the Raptora cult. Telekinetic shield would probably come in handy in void warfare: Doesn't need a combat shield, can keep both hands free for a mahoosive death dealing blade.

Brilliant, just brilliant. Probably the most distinctive posing I've ever seen in a Space Marine model, never would have thought of it myself. Great use of the Ashen Circle body.

In regards the choice of cult, I would put forward the Corvidae. In my view, Osiris's model has the look of an occultist or a philosopher even more so than a 'ordinary' character of the Thousand Sons, and one of the key tenets of that particular cult was to lead and guide the Legion along its various philosophical paths, which also makes sense for the leader of the disparate members of a disbanded fellowship to be.

Honestly, I think Osiris on its own is a fine name. I just spent about ten minutes going through various Arabic origin names on Wikipedia and it just doesn't particularly pair well with anything.
