ETL V Brief - Blood Angels

Unfortunately I only really have Tacticals I need to get done... I can put a Lightning Claw on the Sergeant though! Could start working through my motor pool though.

All this and more to look forward to! Just need to get my gauntlets on some sprays to make things quicker...

So I'm really thinking my first vow is going to be all Dreadnoughts. I'll work on assembling everything but right off the top of my head I'll have two contemptors, a deredeo, a leviathan, a rifleman dread, death company, furioso and librarian. After that we'll see. I definitely have a bunch of tacticals to paint and have to do some DC.  I'm thinking a captain with dual inferno pistols and a jump pack for a character this year, just need to find the right body.

Welcome to Bolter and Chainsword! smile.png

I fail to see how this is any different than someone who undercoats things on sprues (i.e. the red stuff red and the black stuff black). Given that this is your method of undercoating I can't see it being a problem but feel free to post an image if you want it 100% approved. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

It is always very rewarding to see people's first posts to be in relation to the ETL! smile.png

To answer your question, yes, that's totally fine! Go right ahead!

Thanks :) Been reading the forum for a while, and as I have a lot to paint up this comes at a good time.

I recently got back into 40k after around 15 years away so it's been a few months of digging out all my old units, seeing what's still legal, adapting things that no longer fit and of course the obligatory buying of new stuff! Now at around 10k total points of Imperial 'stuff'... some Guard and some units that will need to be Codex Marines but the majority are Blood Angels.

I've got some half painted I'll continue with for now, and more old painted models that need redoing, so that should keep me occupied until the 15th and then it's just a case of deciding what to vow. Right now Dante and his new unit of 8 SG plus a Priest are looking at me from across the table saying "pick us, pick us" :)

So I'm really thinking my first vow is going to be all Dreadnoughts. Punchy is an understatement!

They're only black on the upper legs and chest, but it is a glossy black. See my WIP and avatar picture. It's not a huge deal, as I will be lucky to get 2 pledges done, and have, oh.... up to 14 terminators to pledge if I can't do 8 Death Company plus backpack options. No lack of things to do, just prioritizing what completes my army if possible. AFTER ETL worries.

I think I'm going to do my Librarian in TDA carrying a storm shield. It was the first time I ever used green stuff; the green stuff was used to join the storm shield to the right arm. It is not many points but if I get it done in a reasonable time I can do more. I really want to get it painted too.

Semper,

First of all, thanks for your service to the Frater. You're really awesome to be so dedicated to the forum and ETL.

Second, I heard you're impervious to flattery.

Third: I had assembled some death company 3 years ago, but since then, I had decided I would make the death company white. I just redid their jump packs and backpacks to be magnetized prior to ETL and had some time on the airbrush before ETL to get them ready. But thinking about it, this is the white I would use as a finished product, and wanted to get them cleared, if possible, as a vow for ETL. The red one is because I ran out of primer and assembled him more recently to finish out the squad.

What do you think?

You know what, I was going through my bitz box last night and I found the following:

  • AOBR Dreadnought
  • Complete set of Furioso arms, Blood Talon and Blood Fist bitz, along with Dreadnought Meltagun, Heavy Flamer and Storm Bolter
  • A Magna Grapple

What'll happen tonight is, after I return from the gym I'll be doing a lot of hobbying - first finish some half painted models, then build a magnetized Cassor the Damned for ETL as my first vow, because painting black dreadnoughts is the easiest thing in the world. smile.png 140 more points to be pledged to the ETL. Yay.

What do you think?

I think they are fine. However keep in mind that you can only enter a single configuration - no extra points for magnetized items. So just go ahead and pledge the most point-rich configuration and you'll be fine. :)

Hmm, some funky warp-time displacement going on there...

Six days to go!

Where possible, try and top up your vows with a character and one which isn't too far removed from what you're doing. For example:

  • If you're painting Death Company, knock up a Chaplain/Lemartes/Astorath
  • If you're painting Sanguinary Guard, knock up a Sanguinor/Dante/Tycho
  • If you're painting red, knock up a character in red (Captain?)

...and so on. Adding one more more to the bulk paint process isn't going to break the bank, nor the concentration. It also enables you to be in your groove with your painting and help provide the better paint job (in theory!)
