Cry Wolf
Hey guys, posting this both int he Spacewolf and Age of Darkness forum to get the Rout and any floating 1k sons' viewsHow do you guys think i could best represent Bases in tisca city. Not limitied to GW products but they are usually easy to use and close to handCurrently thinking Agrellan Earth (the GW texture) it cracks into a dry sand/clay look, maybe on top of some sort of road material/flag stones then some rubble What are your guys ideas of how this could be done, theme of the army is about the initial drop assaultCheers CryWolf Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321522-prospero-bases/ Share on other sites

Ahrimanjjb
I've made mine out of plasticard, just cut it into flagstones, carved in some cracks and painted it as battered stone. http://i540.photobucket.com/albums/gg336/Ahrimanjjb/Pre-heresy%20Thousand%20Sons/P1000413_zps580bb626.jpg http://i540.photobucket.com/albums/gg336/Ahrimanjjb/Pre-heresy%20Thousand%20Sons/4f870301-5764-4d76-9baf-0fc19738ab52_zpsyquljshf.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321522-prospero-bases/#findComment-4367752 Share on other sites
Cry Wolf
The dragonforge ones look great BUT im going to try the look of the ones Ahrimanjjb did then add some broken glass/rubble and a slight bit of sand (as i see the advance of the wolves to be the destruction of the city, when i get round to doing 1k sons theyll have the same base minus the glass and rubble i think) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321522-prospero-bases/#findComment-4367770 Share on other sites
Xenaur
@Ahrimanjjb how have you painted those bases? They look amazing! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321522-prospero-bases/#findComment-4367816 Share on other sites
Theredknight
https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/281852343424 I was thinking putty and carving into slabs, and in the centre they have golden lettering with phrases and runes on. I liked the look of this one, there is another which is less intense but I'm planning the same. You can buy shattered glass, but must be extremely careful with it of course!! Ahrimanjjb
I belieeeeeve it was simply deneb stone and then washed with agrax earthshade (letting it pool heavily in places) and then drybrushing and washing on repeat until it looked just right. Leman Russ SW
I was thinking of using a similar colour scheme to this with perhaps more sandstone rubble. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/305744-blood-angels-the-pure-sons-of-sanguinius-a-army-reboot/page-3 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321522-prospero-bases/#findComment-4369602 Share on other sites
Big Bad Squig
I took inspiration from this thread and threw together the following by flattening greenstuff and carving it to look like floor tiling. It was fairly efficient on time (although adding flourishes like the glass took a little longer) and very simple as a process. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/4/19/793726_md-.JPG http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/4/19/793727_md-.JPG Hope this helps! Cry Wolf
Mine was: -Glue plasticard to base (I just grabbed the closest to me so don't know what thickness) -Cut with clippers and file until flush with base -Cut in grooves with saw (make sure they're in the right place as any that aren't look really wierd (it can be save a little with the next step and earth texture) -carve edges to be rough and cut some funnels down the tiles for cracks -base coat dryad bark then dry brushed/stippled baneblade brown then usabi bone (as Ahrimanjjb did OK his I'm thinking of washing with agrax then cycling the process until it looks more tied in, but gotta test that) -put on agrellen Earth onto corners and hairdryer to dry -cut up bits of blister pack and glue on with PVA (I found it best to give a thin coat to all of one side rather than a blob which always dried white for me Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321522-prospero-bases/#findComment-4370682 Share on other sites

Theredknight
That was plasti card? That's some effort, wouldn't fancy doing loads of them though! I did see a tutorial once with someone who made a sheet out of milliput, then cast it as a print then coated the tops of his based with g/s, and basically just printed them off. But can't find it anywhere! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321522-prospero-bases/#findComment-4371524 Share on other sites
