I am trying to paint these guys to a standard I am happy to field on the table, so that I can return to them at a later date. Pretty happy with em so far!

So what happens between the picture where you have the dark blue armor with bright solid stripes of lighter colors in the edges and the last picture where those colors all appear blended? Are you just washing the model heavily?

I am just tidying the highlights up with watered down Kantor Blue. It's just a glaze to tone the super bright highlights down and blend them into the rest of the blue. Once you add the gold it helps contrast the blue and lightens it up a bit more, I will take a few more pics on the next one to show the different stages if you like.

If I remember (I'm pretty hopeless!) I will take pics of every layer of paint on the next guy I do. But honestly, after the tidying up is done, the gold contrasts with the blue so much that it makes it look a little lighter.

You and your 'ropey' painting! I'd be happy with that on a good day....

Looking awesome as always, almost wish I'd not painted my Sons red....

If you are doing more pics, can I request a few on the golds! I'm always struggling with highlighting it up. What do you use to thin the paint down?!

I know some people are doing them Red too, just so they could use them for both systems! :D

I am glad you like!

Okay, as promised, I will be trying to take pics of the next guy as I go.

This guy has been based with Kantor blue. I then highlighted it with Thousand Sons blue, then Ahriman blue. The next step is to highlight it with Baharroth blue.

If I was painting him as a "display" piece, there would be different layers of wet blending at this point. Instead I do all the highlights then use a Kantor blue glaze to tidy it up.

Haha. Glad you like Dosjetka! :P

Pretty certain you would do a bang up job!

Okay, so next steps is the gold rims. Once that is done, I then move on to tidying up all highlights before going into the smaller details. Such as the head dress and eyes etc. The face area is still pretty messy, but that's fine, I tend to focus on it last.

Next step Riekland Flesh shade wash all over the gold trim. This, for me at least, obviously adds depth to the gold, but it also adds additional shading to the blue. This is especially decent towards the darker recesses of the blue, as it can often help show the armour is dirty or "worn".

May have to carry this on when I next have some free time. As the daylight is fading. :/

Highlighted the gold with liberator gold. Also base coated the silver on the weapons and power supply on the back.

Still looking a little scruffy, but that's fine, still doing all the base colours. Will have a tidying up stage down the line!

Loin cloth painted with first layer of skrag brown.

Gun, sword and gems painted black where needed.

You can't see it but the head dress has been tidied up and the first layer of blue on the stripes!

Ta man. I'm pretty happy with how they have turned out. They look decent as a group on the gaming table, which is what I was going for! I may end up painting andquad of these, or at least one of them, to a higher standard once my army is done!

I think they look decent but there is loads you could do with wet blending and maybe NMM gold. Bit more attnetion to the small details, and they could look sweeeet.

Again, not saying these are bad, I'd just like to spend a week or so on one model! :D
