Soldier of Dorn
Just a quick post to say: yes, I am alive. My apologies for not being around much: I've been pretty much completely burnt out of the hobby the past month or so, and I've had very little desire to post on the B&C as a result. I'm gonna try to fix that: I've got too much stuff lying around unfinished and I miss posting here, but I don't think I'll be finishing my bit of the Tale. Nevertheless, I'll try to get everything up to date, hopefully, and possibly keep things updated. I wish I could ensure such was the case, but I still don't feel in secure enough of a place when it comes to the B&C and the hobby in general to guarantee that at this point. Again, my apologies. I haven't explained myself as well as I would like, and I'm not trying to justify my failures, but merely to explain. I hope y'all can understand. Cheers The Psycho Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325762-a-tale-of-20-hobbyists-2016/page/40/#findComment-4657524 Share on other sites

Brother Argent
Of course we understand Psycho. Look after yourself mate. We have all been there and we will all be here when you get that spark back. lionofjudah
Welcome back.... maybe pour a lil gas on that spark to see if it can burn a lil brighter;) Fully understandable bro and I imagine we have all been there in need of some space and change. I rocked out 2.5 hours of of decaling last night... numbered my jetbikes, id markings on 2 rhinos, my deredero and started to work on my Spartan. Realized it was 2:45am at that point and knew it was bed time as the alarm was going to go off at the normal time;) Few updates on my decal musings last eve Jetbikes are numbered 1-8 with 2 & 5 MIA as they were shot down. 1st rhino is from the 75th support squad and will be transporting the flamer support squad under sgt anhor. 2nd rhino sports the tower and raptor signifying its service in the defense of Terra transporting men of the 210th tactical combat engineers. Both rhinos will get another coat of varnish and then be detailed. Each will also receive a multi melta in the cupola as well as a dozer blade. http://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/i444/Default75/IMG_4695_zpsaz3rdabh.jpg http://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/i444/Default75/IMG_4697_zpsxf98doqy.jpg http://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/i444/Default75/IMG_4698_zpsphghvfsj.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325762-a-tale-of-20-hobbyists-2016/page/40/#findComment-4657792 Share on other sites
mactire
Good to hear your doing ok, Psycho. Concentrate on reallife first, the hobby buzz will come back. In the meantime just chill and enjoy the progress of the others. I get what you mean about burnout, it happens to us all, come back in your own time. Augustus b'Raass
Glad you're still alive, Psycho! Fully understandable that you have a hobby burn-out. Take it easy - the remaining frater in this event have sort of organized themselves in a self-regulatory manner. :tu: On that count, I have to alter this month's vow. I already finished the two drop pods, but I'll have to delay the Typhon for a while. I've enrolled in a tournament which features locally on the 20th of March, and I'm fielding a full Skyhammer Annihilation Force. So I'll have to crank out 30 marines (20 Assault, 10 devastator) before that time! So this month instead of the Typhon I'll do a full 10-man assault squad. :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325762-a-tale-of-20-hobbyists-2016/page/40/#findComment-4658348 Share on other sites
Aeternus
All good Psycho, don't worry bout it :) Hope it goes well from here on. Damn, really coming along there Lion, gonna have to stop posting jetbikes since now I'm being tempted... Sweet design and riders though, the black helps break the stark yellow quite well. Following on from some (well placed) criticism from Auggie and Lion, regarding the unnatural pose, here's the proposed adjustment. Unfortunately can't change the left leg/knee at all due to a bit too much superglue in it's creation, though done a repose of the right leg so it's kind of launching off something. Will get a better picture in a few days when I'm back in the UK, but hopefully this should show what I mean? And also, thank you to Aug and Lion for the criticism. It was entirely correct, and I think it'll come out looking a lot better with the improved pose :D So thanks, seriously :) (Don't be afraid to continue) Looking at it again I think it might need a repose of the other leg as well to work, leaning too far now :/ http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w376/Aeternas/IMG_20170208_104431_zpswhitsbxb.jpg?1487285320820&1487285322362 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325762-a-tale-of-20-hobbyists-2016/page/40/#findComment-4658359 Share on other sites
Pyroclast91
My apologies for my recent absence brothers RL has really been kicking me in the teeth this last month or so and I haven't had a ton of hobby time so I've mainly been building/converting when I get a little time here and there. Fortunately it appears that things are starting to return to some sort of normal now I've just gotta get the old forge fires burning bright again if ya know what I mean. I have gotten a bit of work done on Vulkan. And I took a pic of everything I've completed thus far as was mentioned earlier. Everything has been looking fantastic in here and I applaud those of you haven't lost your steam keep up the awesome work fellas. lionofjudah
Just got in 2 hours of weathering 2 rhinos. No pics as I'm too tired to do the photo thing right now... Hit the lower hulls with a thinned sepia/red oil glaze after reading Apologists latest blog post on applying glazes to warm colors. Then went to town working on exhausts and then washes-rusts, streaking grime, rain marks and oil streaks. I'm going to seal them again and then hit them with weathering powders. Probably post finished full around pics up Sunday:) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325762-a-tale-of-20-hobbyists-2016/page/40/#findComment-4659838 Share on other sites
Brother Argent
Okay so I have been lax with updates and pics but here we go: First up, the Completed Captain Yrien Barthelon Followed by the Storm Shield brothers: And finally the completed Command Squad So that brings my February vow to completion and with it I am up to 1440 Points of my 1850 Complete. Only fifteen tacticals, two Rhinos and a Razorback left. So that brings my to my next order of business: I, Brother SP, vow for the second time for the month of February to complete Tactical Squad Secondus ( A five man Tactical Squad with Grav Cannon and Grav-Amp, as well a a sarge with Combi Grav) by the end of the month. These 115 Points will Bring me to a completed total of 1555 Points Iron and Blood! Dosjetka
Excellent work, mate. I'm really happy that you've managed to plough ahead and keep on painting every month since the beginning of this Tale of Hobbyists. You've definitely shown that you're determined to redeem yourself (far more than I have!). Can't wait to see the whole army finished and in one picture. Keep on painting, mate, you're doing yourself proud! :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325762-a-tale-of-20-hobbyists-2016/page/40/#findComment-4660586 Share on other sites

Lord Commander Eidolon
Well gents, I am still here... just Sad news re Pyscho's departure! I must admit I am hanging in here by the skin of my teeth!! I'm not so much suffering burnout, just distractions (in the form of Thousand Sons!!) and real life pressures of finding the time!! To add more annoyance, I am struggling to get my photos uploaded as my mail server won't play ball!! I've stupidly pledged some Sons to the Loyalty and Treachery, I've stripped down and started my existing ones and started again! Pretty pleased with the results!! This has of course impacted on the time to paint the Third Legion!! I've been dabbling with a Veteran marine as I kind of wanted a test model done this week, but alas he's not quite finished, or indeed even close. I have however done most of the missile launcher for my Deredeo, so hopefully that and the finish touches on the metal/guns will be done soon, then Ancient Kurama will be revealed!! Always exciting to see a Primarch on the go! Following on from some (well placed) criticism from Auggie and Lion, regarding the unnatural pose, here's the proposed adjustment. It was entirely correct, and I think it'll come out looking a lot better with the improved pose So thanks, seriously That dread is looking a lot better, if you really want to get rid of the glue, you can whack resin in the oven at around 120degrees, it'll melt the glue yet not damage the resin. I actually did it on the deredeo, and you'd never know..... lionofjudah
Plugged away on weathering the rhinos last night... weathering powder is fun....til you hit it with the medium to keep it in place and it all disappears;). Learning patience and how to layer big time right now. I'll try and get pics up later Brother SP- think your army is looking grand bro!! Ima big fan of your medic and your color scheme is bringing it all together. Look forward to seeing them based Aeternas- feel the new pose to be much smoother! The other way temp wise works as well- freezer your model overnight and that should make superglue brittle enough to pop without damaging the resin. Pyroclast- I like the subtle tonal variations in your greens! Top notch primarch work there! I'm super nervous about doing one... and luckily dorn isn't out yet;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325762-a-tale-of-20-hobbyists-2016/page/40/#findComment-4660772 Share on other sites

Brother Argent
Loving that weathering bro. Something I am not sure will work with my guys tanks. The dark red doesn't lend itself to weathering as well as that gorgeous yellow. On the noe of vehicles, with next month being my motor pool march, I am struggling to decide how to do the Iron Herald tanks. While I would typically just go the main marine colour with secondary colour accents I am not sure my red scheme with its reliance on washes would work. Otherwise I would go black with the red accents but not sure if that would work either. Thoughts from my esteemed brothers would be greatly appreciated. Augustus b'Raass
Hey Brother SP: how about you do your vehicles in black, with red accents, i.e. a reversal of your infantry colour scheme? That'd mean you can weather your tanks more easily (brown and metal sponging works wonders on black surfaces), while retaining the washability of the smaller red accents. :)I finished half of the Assault Squad I was supposed to do today. More pics, of all individual members and from different angles, here in my WIP thread. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20170220_003_zpsf0ajflne.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/325762-a-tale-of-20-hobbyists-2016/page/40/#findComment-4661404 Share on other sites
Brother Argent
Looking sweet mate. I wish I could paint that good a yellow. And yeah, I was considering that way. Just not sure if black vehicles beside red marines works. In saying that it does suit the theme of the black representing their sins works with the scrap code malaise tainting their vehicles. I actually quite like the idea. Brother Argent
Damned those vehicles look sweet brother. Only criticism I could possibly offer is on that rhino the top hatch might need a bit of weathering as it looks like it has been missed. lionofjudah
Thanks for that noticing brother sp... I'm still deciding if I'm putting a multi melta on that rhino or it it's just getting bolters. I found a bunch of sprues of hatches so will mock a few different ones up.
