Soldier of Dorn

Recommended Posts

Hail brothers, good to see everyone progressing so well. February was a b**** for me, I hardly managed to touch a brush the entire month. However my January is as good as done so ill get some pics up by the weekend and hopefully I'm good to go for March after my bye month. I have a PAWG unit and DropPod lined up for this month and I'll get point totals and pics up for the weekend as well.

Looking sweet there Bro.  Must say like Augustus I wasn't sold by the yellow to begin with but I will happily eat my words on this one.  Looking very nice and that red stripe just sells it and the weathering is the cherry on the cake.  One of the best Bastions I have seen out there, honestly.  So as a master weatherer as you and Augustus are could you share any tips on weathering black.  I can see you have done a bit on the doors there so thought you may have insights to share.

In other news I have been able to pick up the brush for the first time in two weeks and damned it felt good.  Working on finishing the last three marines as I am intending on picking up a Mechanicus Standard Grey spray and paint to do the interiors of the vehicles to speed up the process.  Here's hoping I can get there by the end of the month.

Wow that Bastion really came through, dude. It looks fantastic! You've proven that buildings can be painted in any colour and still look great. I mean, come on, when you imagine a yellow building, it look ridiculous - but then here it stands and it looks great. That's no mean feat. I stand super corrected, and will swallow my earlier words of scepsis. Well done indeed! :)

@ Brother SP: You'll have to wait for lionofjudah for his method, but I'm happy to share what I do: usually I weather black by a couple methods: one is to make a GW Mournfang Brown wash with Vallejo Glaze Medium and applying that in about half the recesses- when that is dry, usually the mixture you made is also a little thicker (you can also re-add some Mournfang), you can use that thicker paint/glaze to create vertical rust stripes from rivets etc. You can also sponge black surfaces with Rhinox Hide, Mournfang brown, and surfaces and edges with Ironbreaker (not a mixture of those paints, just do them in that order). Lastly you can edge highlight raised or potruding edges with Ironbreaker.

Love the breacher helm on the far right guy... he's ready to kick some butt!;)

The glorious yellow of Dorn didn't do it at all for me on the bastion initially and I wondered if I'd made a mistake in changing from the standard grey it was before. I feel the red 'command' stripe helped out a whole bunch (got the idea online while researching bastion paint jobs and liked the look) and the extra weathering feels like it has balanced out the expanses a bit.

I will be working on the lightning next and then have the terminators to have them finished by the end of the month.

Bro sp- my black weathering starts with a PP trollblood blue color highlight that's mixed 75% to 25% black...followed by another line highlight 50/50 then 25/75 edge highlight... with armor/characters I might mix in a lil white as well for super pop on corners/raised edges but didn't do that here.

I hit the black with same sponging I use on yellow -Vallejo chocolate brown/black and then a light gunmetal sponge followed up with a plethora of Vallejo environmentals.

Hope this helps a lil

Some Slow progress on the Lightning. Trying to replicate a picture design is proving harder than anticipated, the size of the wing certainly doesn't help :P I'll get there though. Planning on then doing green/white checkers on all the fins at the back. Might make the lower cloth on the right above the wing like the cloth above it.

Do you think I should go with green? Or should I go with red. Any thoughts would be appreciated while it's not too late to change

Stuck with just being able to build at the moment as my back is playing up. It looks like my SW Legion project will be the one to mainly benefit from this. But I will also get some forward momentum with the DW project. :)

I'm loving the progress people are making ... Keep up the good work!!!

Cheers for the well wishes. Not being able to sit down and paint does have some advantages ... I'm limited to playing around with bits which means this happened ...

So blutac test fitting went well ... all will count as Dred combat weapons ...

Double Ice Claws:gallery_25187_9829_710707.jpg

Whopping Great Frost Axe (limited to the models right arm):gallery_25187_9829_668939.jpg

Fell Hands Frost Claw (can be either hand):gallery_25187_9829_203936.jpg

Normal Claw (can be either hand):gallery_25187_9829_400393.jpg

Needs cleaning up before gluing together but good enough for proof of concept. What do you think of the direction I'm going with for the Contemptors? :)

Will need to retain at least one of them for the box Dreds before getting carried away with converting stuff up.

Really need to work on the arms for the metal TDA. Do I retain the old arms or replace them with plastic ones?

The hobby mojo is firing up just need to keep myself away from sitting at the painting table for at least a week if not a bit longer.

Spent 3 episodes of Znation season 3 converting dudes last night. Honestly it was finishing the conversions on -3 mkv bolter dudes, mkiii/mkiv techmarines and a GW finecrap techmarine for my quad guns, a sgt with thunder hammer, a dude with a boarding shield and axe(he's pretty boss), a guy with a leftover set of gs'd chaos warrior legs from my truescaled space wolves(gave him a solarite power gauntlet and helbrecht's backpack(sans cross thing that broke off... think this pack is too small for him)... started a mkii apothecary to techmarine conversion (also for quad guns- building up 5 dudes with servo arms loading shells into thudd guns and will have the MoS dude running comms)

Speaking of the MoS figure... this guys been ticking me off for about a year as I started painting him and became hella bored... need to finish!!!

I've also started breaking arms off my cataphractii as they are my LaT vow this month as well as my Fists month challenge vow. It's just a boring sculpt as is and really static.

I've converted them to be a volkites armed squad and am slowly trying to arm them with other weapons than powerfists.

No pics this eve as I have a house full of kiddos and am taking a respite before heading back to the madness.

Alrighty then

Okay so at this point I am re-working my list because I 1. Am finding it difficult to sit for length of times needed to paint this army due to my back and 2. I am finding inspiration and desire hard to come but for painting the same guys over and over again and 3. I cant afford to but the spray paint I need to paint the interiors of the Rhinos and Razorbacks.  So I shall basically substitute the last Tactical Squad and three transports with a Squad of Five Tactical Terminators with Assault Cannon and A Predator.  This will take my over the 1850 Points I promised at the start so I hope everyone is all cool with it.  Mind you the contemptor from B@C is looking tempting, which is saying something as I never liked the models...

So to keep this as Motorpool March I shall still complete the five Tactical Marines (I have two left) as well as a Predator Annihilator with Dozer Blade for this month.

Iron and Blood brothers.  Lets keep this going to the end.  Only one month and a bit to go...

I've also pretty much finished a revised Tartaros Sgt for the EC, as the original one met with a nasty accident!!

Sadly my Apothecary's had a nasty issue of paint peeling up when I applied a varnish layer!! Not happy. I'll sort that out when I next paint up some white! I will batch paint some white pads and do them all in one go!!

I had some issues with the deredeo which saw me have to re-do bits of the pink. annoying but at least I'll be happy with it. Need to do another pin wash on it to re-define the details!

Some Great Progress!

Though it does appear that the Imperial Fists are dominating this thread at the moment. Last Night I managed to spend an hour painting some bone on my scouts.

Hoping that I will be able to get some work done this week... And spend more time on this forum.
