Soldier of Dorn

Okay so here is the first before shot of the first two of the five tacticals of this squad:

And because it was suggested before here is a really bad and out of focus group shot of my Tale force so far:

EDIT: And I just realised my assault marines are having a snooze in the back

Despite the lower quality of the group shot, it's still an impressive sight to see all of those models together in one picture. thumbsup.gif

Have you had any ideas what to do basing-wise?

EDIT: Oh, and I hope to see the Dornian members here sign up for this event once it's underway... ;)

Got the majority of my weathering done on the Spartan this eve... of course this means I'll probably get 3 and a half hours of sleep tonight and it's my ladies birthday weekend coming up and I've rented our family a cabin in the Gorge... so I'm not gonna get any painting done til Monday is what I'm saying;)

Started to clean up my DDP(so not excited for the amount of warpage) and 2 thudd guns(see above for non excitement) and I'm prepping 20 more doods for painting as well.

The process of posing and gearing them up takes awhile and my arms bits bin is getting a lil low:(...

Looking good mate.  I long for the day when I can afford a Knight.  Any Knight.  Its my intention to paint it in my family heraldry.  I hope to eventually be able to field most of the Imperium armies as I am the only Imperium player in my (very small) play group.  Out side of me its two necrons, a Chaos and a Tau/Kroot.  Oh an possibly a Tyranid.  Plenty of Xenos to kill.

Rangaman! Looking good, mate! Masking can be so reqwarding, peeling off that annoyingly applied tape to reveal awesome neatness. Although... on the top shield, the masking seems to have been applied a bit loose - which shows on the final product pictures

- no straight lines after each depressed section. I'm not sure if you're doing this already, but if you get some cheap, large rubber clay shapers from eBay, you can use those to really get that masking tape into recesses and stuff. They come in all sizes and are super cheap, making them - in my opinion - an unmissable item in any hobbyists tool collection. They really are worth every penny.Just search for Clay Shapers on eBay, and you'll find these exact ones.

Super true dos;)

Here's a few pics now that photobucket has decided to work... as stated I'll be a bit busy til Monday night so I hope to stop by and say hey between now and then.

Bro SP- nice looking force of newly painted moraines you have there man!!!!!

Rangaman- looking sweet to see the tape on.... I've not tried the clay shapers but use my dental sculpting tools at times, and also get the lil spray over lines due to tape not being as tight as it needs to be.

Thanks for the tip Augustus, I will look into investing in some of those in the future. For the edges I will just go back with a brush to tidy up.

Looking sweet! (though that may take the cake for Most Brutal Imperial Fist I've seen so far) Are those tracks from Blood n Skulls industry?

Thanks Aeternas!! Most brutal Fists is high praise indeed!! Did you happen to see the Leviathan a few posts back

They are Thom's B&S tracks- recommend his products whole heartedly!! My next Deimos rhino will be made using one of his kits and it's a sweet looking kit with minimal warpage and no slippage.

My dread pod is not the best kit at all and I will have to spend some quality time hearing and massaging that kit into shape.

Dostejeka has posted up info for a new Fists painting challenge that will (hopefully see) my painting mojo continue and help me slug through all of the infantry I need to get finished.

Lol... currently feeling strong on my personal vow to not buy anything else until I catch up on my backlog as I'm eyeing the Mars warhound in the attic that stares at me longingly each time I grab some more stuff to paint.

I have a bunch of assembling to do soon and hope to score some more bits to assist in that.

I did indeed, admired it and all. Just wanting to get one now! But I'm always a fan of weathered and blackened schemes. How hard/easy was it to get the tracks onto the spartan? Any work required?

Now, Honoured Brother Dumah is almost complete...

Still need to finish off the shoulder shield, couple of purity seals, and now I'm looking for a suggestion as to which Wing I should make him, so I can decide what to put for the shield heraldry on the right leg. Gut instinct says Deathwing, but could be dreadwing, stormwing, firewing, ironwing, so, votes/suggestions?

The verse around the first (slightly hidden now) is Et Cognoscetis Veritatem Et Veritas Liberabit Vos, and on the chest is Ipsa Quidem Pretium Virtus Sibi. 'Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free' and 'Virtue is its own reward' respectively. Included some pre-weathering pics of the fist to prove it's all there :P

Wowowow!!! That dude is looking super sweet man!! Great sense of movement and an evocative story shown.

Honestly I traded a built storm eagle for the built SPARTAn so the tracks came on there for me:)... actually sold me on the trade;)

I've used 5 of thoms other kits and they have all had minimal issues(when compared to some of the fun I've had to have with FW resin;)

Wow the Spartan and Contemptor look amazing fellas, cant go past war torn and gritty vehicles.

Ive used the Liberator track kits from Blood and Skulls for all of my Sons of Horus tanks and they are pretty good and definitely complete a Deimos tank imo

Thanks both :D Decided to go with Dreadwing so now to get a skull hourglass on the shield somehow...

But good to hear about the tracks, I'll grab some for a spartan/rhinos for when I get round to vehicle time!

So have been dealt a potentially devastating blow this week. Despite every other set back I have gotten through this one may be unassailable. Due to sheer bad luck I injured my back again at work the other day and have since found it all but impossible to sit an paint at all. I have got two of the five guys done and am struggling to get something done on the others I have a Dr's appointment on Monday to assess the damage. Best case I fail this month. Worse case I will have to bow out. If that is the case I will be so utterly devastated as this is the best I have done on any challenge ever and indeed this is the most I have painted in years... So pray to the Emperor for me brothers, or ask the Mechanicus or Dark Gods to give me a new back. biggrin.png

That reminds Bro SP I need to paint up the member of the DW dedicated to you and I need everyone else to choose their chapter to be represented. I probably did ask for this before but it's been ages and I can't find where it's got hidden in the archives.

Does a Librarian in TDA sound ok SP? It's got to be a model in TDA as that's the pad I gs'd your chapter symbol onto. ;)

That works for me mate.  Whatever you want. Iron Herald Librarians face the double challenge of both the whispers of the Warp due to their psychic abilities as well as the whispers of the possession of their technology by the Scrapcode Malaise so makes for a good character as well.

Bro SP I think the DW might bless him with a new suit of TDA nicked from the GK's while they were busy ... erm ... having a bath or something. ;)

Will get a pic taken later.

Rangaman got a pad gs'd up already waiting to be used ...
